Did a 250-mile ride today. Left at noon and just got home at 6 pm. I am just a little saddle sore. I'm going to have to get a Russell day-long seat. The original seat is ridiculous for rides over 1 hour.
State or local LEO???Rode up to Blairsville, GA, today, ate at Jim's Smokin Q, came back thru Suches (TWO) and Ball Ground, 280 miles (got a late start). The riding weather was PERFECT. No other way to put it. High 60's, blue sky, light traffic, lots of bikes are out but the "standoff" (or truce) is definitely OVER. I saw several LEO's with bikes pulled over, other LEO's hiding in the woods along favorite roads. Lots of helmet patting going on. Still, A GREAT DAY!!
State or local LEO???
I wouldn't be surprised if local LEOs (and their bosses) look at this as prime revenue-raising time!!!
If someone is breaking the law they deserve to be pulled over and charged. Otherwise chaos ensues. There's already plenty of that as it is. I'm fairly certain LEOs don't look at it as opportunity to make money. At least the vast majority of them don't. I'm not perfect and I've been known to sometimes break traffic law on occasion and I expect to pay if I am pulled over. Part and parcel of doing the deed. I have no desire to make that trade but sometimes it happens when not paying full attention or when certain situations require a choice between one bad move or another.
If the state and/or local law enforcement makes some revenue, or even a lot of revenue, through fines from those breaking the law I have NO problem with that. All levels of government need revenue to operate properly. The corruption and misuse of revenue is another issue entirely and needs addressed but not allowing fines to be charged to those who break the law, or even just thinking that is bad, is not the way to do that.
It never occurred to me what the lack of traffic would have on heavy smog areas. My first time in LA we rode in at night to meet a friend of one of our little group. When we got there I noticed the stars were actually pretty dim compared to what I was used to around hear. I asked the guy "What's the deal - no stars". He said "It's LA Jake". Made me really laugh.Dang, one can actually see a distance in LA.
