Itchy Boots

Holy Moly that was great! I could have watched the riding for several hours. And that etherial vocalese! That was some of the best scenery yet. That drone footage was awesome! It's hard to believe she's flying while riding without any autonomous aids. I'm downloading this vid.

She knows how many subscribe to her YT channel. Are there similar stats for FB viewings? She has also mentioned an Instagram account (Greek to this boomer) and I think there some sort of metric she can see but dunno for certain. She's obviously very social media savvy.

But that's too much work for me. I'd be happy to do riding and the drone piloting. I don't know what regs she has to comply with but I'd bet from what we've seen for the most part that enforcement isn't really a worry. :D She has plenty of space to pick and choose from.

What type of bike is she riding? I tried to make it out but it says "Itchy Boots"!

Noraly is riding a Honda CB500X in season three through Europe. In season 1 and 2, she rode two different Royal Enfield Himalaya motorcycles

The "Itchy Boots" moniker comes from her Dutch family name, Schoenmaker, which in English is "Shoe Maker". In English slang "itchy feet" means you want to move or travel, hence "Itchy Boots".

Love this background info - thank you! I wonder who edits these videos for her to cut it all down to about 17 minutes. Just fantastic.

She does everything by herself, including shooting and editing the video. She says it takes her about 8 hours of editing for the 15-20 minute video we see.

Incredible. Does she do it the same day or are these recorded and then she publishes them later. Like it is not real time that she rode to the islands yesterday, flew the drone, edited the video and posted it same day? Or did these videos happen some time ago?

Noraly's videos are about two weeks "behind".

And I'd say, it's mostly for "safety" reasons ... which is smart in my book.

Here was Friday's episode. Near the end, she remarks how many people are now recognizing her in Norway, a bit to her own consternation.

I've been making my way through the Ewan McGregor/Charley Boorman tv series' (Long Way Round (2004), Long Way Up (2007), and the new Long Way Up (2020)), and I must say I prefer Noraly's video diary to their more reality-tv based versions of biking around the world. For one thing, there's so much wingeing, especially in the first series, despite them literally having a small army involved to help get them around and record their adventures. Noraly just has herself and her bike, and that's it.

Those series are on Prime in the States and Apple TV.

Yes, I noted this as well. I think this is one of the big reasons that the episodes are two weeks behind in this series, rather than being created and posted almost every day in Series 1 & 2. I think Noraly enjoys her own company and does not want to be mobbed by fans. If you see the latest episode of the "Long Way Up" you see the mob of Star War's fans in Ecuador Ewan has to manage carefully.

The Itchy Boots channel now has 580K subscribers and each episode is being viewed about 200 - 350K times in this series. Noraly is going to have more problems staying anonymous as she rides south into more populated areas of Europe. I wonder where she is riding now that Europe is in the midst of a serious increase in COVID-19 cases. Quite a few countries have already implemented serious quarantines and travel restrictions.

Does she do it the same day
In season one she did, then the segments were shorter 7-12 minutes each. It became too much and then she opted for three times per week. At one point in season two that got too much for her and she took a break for a couple of weeks. She has returned to the three episodes per week now. When you have a chance, I encourage you to view the earlier seasons if you haven't done so already.

I certainly will. Seeing these parts of the world like this is really delightful. I am loving this!

Yes, the notoriety of Noraly. With our somewhat limited travelling availability, we get to visit vistas vicariously through her travels!
