Itchy Boots

I agree with Noraly that riding in the rain makes for difficult videos with rain drops on the lens. However I do think it captures the sense of adventure when you show bad conditions. I ride in the rain all the time, but my tires are touring tires so I rarely feel any loss of traction in the rain. Put KBiK in Rain mode and just slow down.

I wear an Aerostich Roadcrafter R3 Lite suit and put on the silly looking, but totally waterproof Lobster claw gloves over my regular gloves in heavy rain. I also have a heated jacket liner and gloves, heated grips and seat to make riding in cold rain tolerable.

She was headed towards Umeå, which is north of Stockholm, and complaining of the cold overnight, which I guess were single digits. A better sleeping bag may be in order.

I think better accommodations are in order with it's 0ºC. Of course that's from my non-moto-camping perspective. I'd be happy to stay in a little camping hootch like that with a big ol' plate of chicken and waffles or chicken and bananas – hold the peanuts.

In the Houston area? : )

Yes, although I have ridden up to Alaska and across to Newfoundland, my coldest ride was coming out of Big Bend, Texas, in 2011 when it was only 19 degF.

I always carry my heated gear.

That pod is something else!!!!
The terrain is much like Northern Ontario, feels like home for me. Dealing with mosquitoes is another challenge. ;)

Wow a Noraly sighting! Even rarer than an ST sighting! That pod is way cool - the lakeview location - beautiful. Due to the increasing cold she's done camping. But maybe adding one of those garrote/cable saws to her kit would be very handy. No firewood - just saw a branch off a dead tree!

Another great episode! I wonder how far north she will go.

If you just can’t get enough of Ms Schoenmaker, here’s a nice extended interview with her from just the other day on the Ongekend Talent Podcast (English captions):

Enjoy!

John [fanboy... in a grandfatherly way :)]

Ronin, her Honda CBX500, is so much better suited to the paved roads in Sweden than the Royal Enfield Himalaya bikes she had in Asia and South America. Noraly's speedometer showed 132 kph on the last video!

It will be interesting to see if Noraly crosses the border from Sweden into Norway. If you cross in the south, a 10 day quarantine is required, but in the north Lappland area of Sweden, the border is open as long as you are not showing any symptoms.

That really was an incredible episode. That's a very cool helo ride. That spot she stopped in afterwards was pretty spectacular. And the food looked great. The presentation was surprisingly nice for such an out of the way place.

Series 3, Episode 26. Noraly is refused entry into Finland, but successfully crosses into Norway, one of my favorite countries. The next episode should see Itchy Boots at Nordkap, the most northerly point in Europe.

Based on this episode of her riding around in 8°c (or 46.4° in 'American') weather in her summer gear, I felt shamed and have to take the bike out later when it hits the low double digits here.
