I Didn't Want To Say Anything Until I Was Sure. . .

Good news is ABS stays on till it moves a few feet. Fuel low is easy... leaves the F1
I only put a little less than two gallons in it so it's not enough to activate the upper tank fuel sensor.

With the kick stand down, the FI flashed 9 times, waits and flashed 9 times over and over. It may be left over codes from when I found the wires to the pump broken. It runs smooth but pops a bit when backing off the throttle. I would keep tinkering with it but it's so stinking hot right now. I am just tickled it started.

9 flashes of FI light is IAT sensor fault. It connects at the back of the airbox.

Well, I know that it's plugged in and I know that it's not related to any other the other goings on (fuel pump/cooling leak) and it might explain the popping on over run as a mixture issue . I guess I can throw a sensor at it and see what happens.

I really want to get it warmed up and hear the fans cycle. I haven't done this yet. I have a band gig tomorrow so I gotta stop messing with it. I tell ya the heat is something else. I used to work in an un-air conditioned shop (back when I had a real job) and I am glad I don't have to do that now.

Inside this article is a link to the ECM quick guide, which details how to pull up and clear fault codes.
Thanks a bunch. I got down to the bottom of the code list and read this "The ST has no history of injector failures and a long history of the wiring being eaten by mice nesting in the top of the engine." I did check the connection but I didn't run the wire through my hand. This bike did sit outside for a number of years. Of course the PO said the "bike was running great when parked" but we have all heard that before. They all ran great at some point. These OEM Honda Air Intake Temperature Sensor (part # 37880-P05-A00) fit CIVIC ACCORD INTEGRAs and can be purchased for less than the motorcycle variant.

I did warm it up and got the cooling fan to cycle. The temperature indicator showed in the middle. I am going to button it up and focus on getting the fairings and the fasteners sorted. I want to add a USB charger in the right hand pocket. There is a hole already there and the PO papered over it with a sticker. There were stickers all over scratches and things. Personally I would rather have the scratches.

Good progress was made today. As Allen Millyard says "I am pleased with that!"

Since it runs, I have slowly been re-installing the fairings paying close attention to the fastener situation and I have been fixing the many cracked supports. I have an ABS plastic welding kit I purchased years ago and it works a treat for piecing the supports back in place. The PO had some trouble removing some fairing and side cover Allen screws and his solution was to slice a slot in the screw with what I assume was a Dermal tool. This had the effect of slicing a gash in the fairing and side covers. I used a bit of JB Weld to fill the wound. Dressed and with a little gloss black spray paint you have to look hard to find it. I got an assortment of push pins from Harbor Freight. They are not as nice as OEM Honda connectors but they can be made to work. It beats the zip ties holding things together.

I strongly dislike cleaning up someone else's mess.
But as a bargain bike, your efforts should be amply rewarded.

This may be of some use. Photos are of a 2009 UK model - but there is enough in common. Part numbers to the rear.

The plastic push pins - just feed the part number into ebay. The main fairing panel pins are commonly sold - look for the 50 pieces for not very much money at all. The ones I bought seem to last longer than the Hondas

I wish I had the patients to wait on another order from eBay but I am really getting impatient to ride. The box of push pins works but I had to modify them a little on the grinder. They are not coming out and they look damn sight better than the zip ties he had substituted. I got the windshield back on and the electronic adjuster doesn't work but it can now be used to manually pull or push the windscreen to the desired heights. I will, in future, order the correct push pins and Allen head fasteners that are not stripped.

(Edit1) I have spent the last hour and a half sorting fasteners, push pins and trying to reinstall the lowers. It's maddening. They are all in but the right side seems to be a quarter inch out of align. Tomorrow is another day and I will start again. I just wanted to drive it down the drive way.

You and me both. There is hardened glue all over from the LED carnival light de-installation. There are holes from screws. There are splits and cracks in the fairing. There is dirt. I have washed the pieces with soap, water and a scrub brush while they are off the bike and there are pockets of dirt that stubbornly refuse to budge. It's like pockets of baked sand or something. I have been going around the edges with a damp rag. I am not wild about the black color. It shows every scratch, scuff and ding. The total strip down could be a winter project but the ST makes a really nice winter/cold weather bike. (I'll have to dig out my electric jacket liner.)

I started reading through the fairing installation guide and it makes a lot of sense. I did manage to get it assembled with ever tab in the proper slot if not every push pin in the right place. I think I am going to take an inventory and order all the pin and screws I need and re do my work. I went to the tax office today and got a ferry permit (paper tag) that is legal only on the route to and from the state inspection station.

I fired it up and rode it around the block without the lower part of the fairing installed. She is a big girl but she is surprisingly agile. She makes a bit of a growl when pressed hard. I do not know if this is normal or not but I was riding without my helmet so I was hearing every little thing.

I have an issue with the front left turn signal not flashing. I swapped bulbs and it didn't change sides. The rear bulb flashes but it's much quicker than the right side.

One of the turn signal wire terminals may have pulled loose from it's plug inside the mirror cover. Happened to me and the lock was broken inside the plug. I used some epoxy to hold it in place.

It's funny, I have been riding the Norton so much that the shifting feels weird on the other side.

I changed the bulb (no effect). My test light flashes when I probe the socket. And here is the strange one, the light flashes, when the emergency flashers are on but only if you depress the cancel button. I think it is a ground issue but I am too woolly headed to run it down at the moment.

I am legal as of today. I got my state inspection and with it i got my tag. I know that i only rode the back roads to get through town but MAN! What a machine! She is a big girl but she is light on her feet with lots of grace.

I put a little over three gallons in it and the low fuel light still flashes. When the sun is directly behind me all the warning lights look lit and the FI light is lit. It runs fine. These are just nits to pick and i am sure they csn be fixed in time. 1000004817.jpg

Curious- How did you pass inspection without having properly functioning turn signals? Or have you found the problem and fixed them?

Just an F.Y.I.
There are two ground connectors that cause many strange problems on these motorcycles as they age. One is a white connector behind the left fairing just ahead of and above the cylinder head. The other is a yellow connector behind the right side headlamp. All of the ground wires for the front half of the motorcycle run through these connectors. The ground (green) wire terminal is often found overheated and has melted the connector. Easy fix- Add an additional ground wire to a nearby frame point. Many people have just gone ahead and added these additional grounds as preventative maintenance even though inspection revealed no signs of excessive heat. See below for an example.

Fixed my electrical problem (headlights, dash lites, horn, turn signals, windshield)

Good question Andrew. The answer is he didn’t look too close. As long as it has tread on the tires and it rolled in under its own power he is good.

I keep thinking "ground issue" but the other lights work. It could be finding its own ground path.

Every little thing fixed is one more thing off the list. I got out this morning intending to test the ground to the left front turn signal. Once I pulled the mirror housing it became obvious as the connector had pulled apart. A deft action with needle nose pliers saw the connector seated and it works now. I don't know why I didn't see it before.

Edit 1) I took the bike to the only station in town that sells non-ethanol fuel. Its out of the way, in a high traffic area and very busy. The pump is marked as 87 octane but I figure that number is deceiving since it doesn't have the ethanol blend. The fuel gauge showed about half a tank when I arrived. . I filled it and the fuel gauge showed a full tank. So this means the fuel gauge is working but it continues to blink which is maddening.
