Where did you ride today?

+1... got out for just under 50 miles yesterday, first time out in nearly 2 months.

I looked at the weather guesses and saw it was expected to be the best/warmest day of the rest of the year, so I took the RT out for some exercise. There was little traffic and thought it would be a good day to ride through downtown Denver. It was interesting seeing how quiet (nice!) it was downtown--the few out and about seemed to be on leisurely walks, many looking and smiling, couples arm in arm talking, one transient waved, a guy in an Orange Lamborghini was cruising through downtown as well. Seemed Christmas cheer was present.

It was upper 30's (mid morning), but lotsa electrics on me and on the bike. :)

Oddly memorable ride. I'll have to do it again next year. :thumb:

Rode around in lower ALABAMA (LA) and the western panhandle of Florida today. 273 miles with temps from 66 to 72. I hope to ride 299 more miles this year and I'll break 30,000 for the year.

Please save some of that weather for this weekend...
I know you can do 300 by Tuesday.

I got out for about 70 miles this afternoon while the Sun was trying to peek through the clouds. The temperature stayed between 42 and 44 for the entire trip. Usually I would have layered up, but I chose to run the electrics instead of being too bulky. Met a ST1300 that I didn't recognize, going through Leipers Fork. I continued to the Northern end of the Natchez Trace, turned around and took a long way back home. It felt good to get out of the house for a couple of hours.

I took an hour or so ride today, first ride in about a month (weather). Felt great to be out on two wheels again!

I went from home (west Henrico) west on Rt. 6 to Maidens, north on Rt. 522, then east on Rt. 250 back to home.

Got a 60 mile ride in before the new year today...…..wanted to be home to watch the Viking game...…..should have kept riding!!

Did a 360 mile ride today, weather was great seeing a high of 68. I took Hwy 154, 101, 150, 33, 166, 58, and finished the ride hitting Tepusquet Canyon Road and Harris Grade.

Of course you because 329 would not have done it!!

I'm glad you got to ride. Might be my turn tomorrow.

Rode out to Beatty Nv through Death Valley from the San Francisco Bay Area yesterday and back today, about 1100 miles. Low of 26 and high about 57 with the majority of temps in the 30’s and 40’s. Beautiful ride in winter.

I had an urge to do a run around the East Cape but really only one day to do it, so I made a stupidly early start (0430) and got into it. I had great weather aside from a really stiff wind all day, and temperatures varied from about 12C to 30C; the latter I found just a bit too warm, even with the low screen and vented gear. The 1100 was great as expected and I did a number of 3 1/2 hour non-stop legs, with a total distance covered of just a hair under 1200km in 13 1/2 hours riding. Fuel use varied from 18km/L (steady running at around 120km/hr) down to 16km/L on the really twisty bits. The East Cape was magnificent, deserted and wild. Roads were mostly in good shape but the usual NZ road problem in summer of bleeding/melting tar made for a few pucker-inducing moments as the day warmed up. I arrived home absolutely tuckered out, but in pretty good physical shape aside from achy wrists and knees, old-age symptoms. The photo below is at Tokomaru Bay at about 11 am, my lunch stop.East Coast Ride 4 Jan 18.png

I took a nice 100 mile round trip ride on a gorgeous day from Fort Walton Beach, FL up into the Blackwater Forest near Holt and Baker, FL to check out a free camp ground I found on the FreeCampSites.net site. I was looking for some close options to make some trial camping trips as I get myself setup for some longer distance camping trips on the ST. If you are traveling through the Florida panhandle and need a free campsite with a nice bathhouse and hot showers not very far off of I-10 near Holt and Crestview, check out Wilderness Landing Park. It is right on the Blackwater River. There is only about 1 mile of red clay roads once you turn onto Corduroy Road. If you enter from I-10 at Holt, take Bryant Bridge Cutoff Road and Norman Riley Road to Corduroy (map). If entering from the north off of FL Hwy 4, take Old Martin Road then slight left onto Charlie Foster Rd/Environmental Center Rd/Old Martin Rd (map).

Nice piccies, but are there Gators in that water, and I'm not referring to what you US'ers would call a football team.
Upt'North.

Like most waterways in the southeast, yes, there can be gators, but it tends to be colder than they prefer, so it would be rare.

See http://www.northwestfloridaoutdooradventure.com/2011/03/17/canoeing-on-floridas-blackwater-river/
"Due to the water’s low temperature, don’t expect to see any of Florida’s famed alligators though. They prefer warmer, muddy bottomed water. The tubers appreciate the lack of alligators as well. For a special treat, keep a sharp eye out and an elusive river otter may be spotted while it plays along the river bank."

We haven't seen any gators (yet) and you probably can't see them anyway. This is within a 1/4 mile of the campsite. We like to do float trips on the Blackwater river.

I guess I should edit this after rereading, there aren't supposed to be gators this far up the Blackwater but I don't know if anyone told all the gators! 100's to thousands of people float this river on summer weekends and lots of people don't even bother with a float device.

Any other good local spots you'd recommend for free or cheap tent camping? By local, I mean for us NW FL folk! South AL, MS, or FL panhandle.
