What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

I took my new-to-me ST out for my first real ride and I think I need some advice. I'm afraid I bought a used lemon.

First, it made me late for dinner. I left home at 3:30 and 4hours and 100 miles later I finally came home. I think I somehow got gassed by carbon monoxide or something. I cant explain the lost time any other way. Plus, I think my gas gauge is defective because it says I used less than half a tank. I know that's not right!

Second, I am not sure I like the "mental steering" add-on I apparently have. Six or seven times I remember thinking " I wonder what's down that road?" *poof* Suddenly I'm a quarter mile down "that road" and no idea how. I'm slightly ADD. I'll never get anywhere like that!

And then theres the engine issues. For instance theres apparently no speed between stop light and 45 MPH. Let off the clutch, *BOOM* 45 MPH. I pass through 7 school zones on the way to work. I'm definitely going to get a ticket. Similarly on the highway... I was putting along happily at the legally mandated 55 MPH ( because I'm gig on rules.) Then I got stuck behind a landscape truck blowing grass clippings all over the highway. I decided I would be justified to bend the rules a little to get around him. I signalled, checked my blindspot, and eased to the left lane. I figured 60, maybe 65 MPH would get me safely past. But again, the demon engine decided that a teeny, tiny bump on the throttle should translate into a sudden jump from 55 to 90! And I only realized I was doing 90 because some guy in a Corvette convertible yelled "A**&%ole!" at me as I blazed past him. I had to go three extra exits just to wait for him to turn off so I was sure I would have some sort of confrontation with him.

So I have to ask the ST give mind, how much should I start saving for tires, tickets and possibly, bail.

Any advice appreciated.
TIA!!

Yeah, I think you have something wrong with your bike. Bring it over here and leave it with me for a few weeks, and I'll wring it out for you. :thumb:

past week repaired oil leaks from early bike week trip.
cam plate A O-rings. left side.
shift shaft seal, right side.
Took bike Friday for a ride. Forksville, Pa.
Saturday replaced front brakes, yes cleaned & lubed as needed. All is good.

Took it to work and back home after swapping out a different (used) ECM to solve the dreaded 4K RPM knock sensor fault but it didn't work, so was speed limited just like the old one. The seller offered full refund it if did the same thing it was purchased to correct, so we shall see if that's indeed the case.

I just bought my 2004 about a month ago. Spent this weekend upgrading to LED lighting all around, flushed the brake fluid, flushed the clutch fluid, flushed the coolant, changed the oil, changed the final drive oil, and cleaned up everything. I love this bike!

Received my 2 Fiamm high blaster horns (low and high tones) from Princess Auto (on sale) and my F2 & W6 led headlights from Amazon.

The W6's have to go back as I ordered the H4 model and they send a mislabel box. Said H4 on the stickers but was an H8/9/11.

Installed and aligned the rebuilt forks (Sonic 1.1's), installed front wheel, and heading back out to install new front pads and bleed the brake system (and the new SMC). Hoping to get the tupperware on tomorrow and take her out for a few test rides............

seeing that I can't seem to sell the ST 1100 I picked up a givi E460n trunk for it. sorry no pic's I don't have the plate or trunk mounted yet

Monday I found to minor air leaks in the rear tire that led to mushroom plugs being inserted. Rode to work and checked tire pressure before leaving. Promptly ordered a new set of PR4s as the rear was still leaking and both were getting down to the wear bars after 15k. I ordered a yellow thing and a tub of Murphy’s tire lube. The tool and lube are here tides show that they are still sitting in Cali with a delivery date for today.

Tires arrived Saturday morning so I got to use my No Mar yellow thing and the Murphy’s tire lube. A little water and that stuff is slick. I don’t think the STealer removes any weights when they balanced my tires 2 years ago because I only needed 2 on the rear and 3 on the front compared to 8+ on each. Now I have to go scuff them in, might get lost. Oh well. :run1:

Got another one today! My profile bike was my first one. A 91 ST1100 standard model with the 40 amp alt upgrade. Had a salvage title and 99K when bought in Aug 2012. Regrettably sold in September 2018 with 144K. Missed it. So I just bought this 99 ST1100 standard model home today with 69K on it. Clean title. Rode it home 90 miles in rain. Just started cleaning it. Nothing leaks. No cracks on any body panels. Never down. Better than my first one. Nice to be back on two wheels again.

If you are roding a 1100, i can attest to its greatness! Just put about 2500 on mine across the country and all went without a hitch. It was wonderful!
Boston to colorado and utah next!

Checked the air in the tires!
Just got a 1999 ST1100 standard model that sat In a garage for over 3 weeks. And it's kind of a PITA on big touring bikes with luggage in the way. So I knew they were going to be low. They were stock Bridgestones at 22 psi. Got gas and air.

Today was about 60 miles getting it registered and noting it's cold blooded. I know an open thermostat when I see one. The legendary Stant 13868 was snagged in the sun at Advance Auto Parts. 7 bucks. First 2 pics are when I bought it Saturday. Last two are today. Defarkling and cleaning up very well.
