What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

New battery for the 04-ST1300. old 1 was 7 years & 5 months old.

Left boston three weeks ago. Im in colorado now. Have seen bryce, arches, zion and the million dollar highway. Honestly, just being on the bike carving miles has been so much more exciting than the parks, which are beyond excellent.
Ive been staying in motel 6’s and will need to start camping if i want to extent the trip as i hope.
The only problem with the bike is my fault. The only oil i could get here in pagosa springs co was automotive 10-30. It leaked out of my oil filter and made a hell of a mess. Went to durango and did it right. All is fine.
Im at 7000 feet and have been over 11,500 feet. The bike runs fine on 95-96-97 octane. I really dont think the bike gives a damn.
Im carrying about 100 lbs and cant feel it coming off the stand or under way.
Not a bad little st 1100!
I almost chickened out leaving. After all, ive never done this before, and im glad i didnt. At this point, i have about 4000 mi on this trip and think ill do another 3000 getting back to boston. The grasslands that so many told me were boring were wonderful.

If you are driving thru the PNW the Lost Biker Flop House is always open. Cheaper than a Motel6...... T

Certainly looks like an adventure! Those are the best kind you know.

Put some new shoes on last weekend (R5GT). Will try them in the N GA twisties Friday. Also added HawksHead Tvalves.

Well I found that the dealer didn't tighten the drain plug tight enough so I had some oil on my garage floor. I promptly tightened it. But geez....they had one job to do.
Now you understand why many of us do almost all our own maintenance and repairs... too many stupid stories like yours from dealerships and indie mechanics.

?? How could the oil weight/type cause the leak?

Huge kudos to you for sticking with it, sounds like a great time! You should start a new thread with your trip report... I'm sure we would enjoy your pics and comments.

I know, I am a bit embarrassed. I don't do my own maintenance but figure I can learn to do the oil change from now on!

Really, there’s no reason to be embarrassed... we all had to learn at some point. If you have a reasonable tool set, we can happily coach you through most maintenance and even some repairs, just ask! ;)

Today, after many, many hours figuring out why my 08 ST wouldn't keep running, and thanks to this forum, I discovered the proverbial mouse nest under the air box. Again after hours and hours I finally fitted a new sub-harness (if you don't know what that is, you don't want too :) and as I cried, the #13 error code persisted. I finally was able to trace the continuity of the #2 injector wires all the way back to the ECU and there was no break in the wiring. Sooo I think the many failed attempts to start the bike while trying to find out what was wrong must have fried the ECU. I love my ST and think this is the most under rated bike ever made. Anyway, even if I have to spend $675 on a new ECU it's worth it!!! Thanks to all who helped with this even if you don't know it. Ride Safe!

Mourned its demise, a year ago today. Celebrated its resurrection some months later in the hands of @sirbike . I am truly pleased it's not in the scrapyard.

Cleaned up and took thorough pictures of the damages the ST sustained last week before I bring it in for repairs.
Boils my blood that I cannot enjoy my ride:mad:

I went for about a 20 minute ride on country roads. Very relaxed and took my time on any curves. I still have a long way to go to get my confidence and skill back after 10+ years off a bike.
But love getting the saddle time!
John
