What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Had an LED head light quit on me, so I had to remove the windshield, windshield cowl and dash to get to the wiring that I had tucked under everything. I replaced it with the spare one I had from my 2016 trip when I had to replace both due to one failing. Nice that I didn't have to deal with the mount, since I just used the old one! :thumb:

Today, I saw it's time for a new front tire. Been feeling a bit of vibration when I corner and the front tire seems to be the source. I've gotten around 48k miles on this front, can't complain.

I don't get that kind of mileage out of car tires, let alone moto tires
I got almost 80k miles on the OEM tires on the car, they told me they were HP models and should only be good for 50k. I'm at 170k on the car now and ready for my second set.

Is that a typo?

Might be a slight bit under 48k. A month or so after I put it on it got replaced because the installer ripped the bead and I had a slow leak through the sidewall. Do my own install this time.

I was really pleased with my new T31's, over 7000 miles on a set. By that equation you'll use one set to my seven. Although mine were swapped on the right side of legal :spank1:you naughty boy.

Today I took my ST1300 for the first ride since returning from STAR19 in Bristol, VA during late June.
The reason it took so long to go on another ride is because:
  1. I was traveling with family during July,
  2. the rear shock shaft seal on my RaceTech shock blew out and dumped the oil all over the rear of the bike,
  3. I finally gave in and bought a Garmin 595LM GPS that needed to be wired in. I got that one because I was tired of trying to adapt car-based and phone GPS for my use.
Now that all of that's done, it really felt good tp be back on the bike. Now if only this FL weather would cooperate with lower temps and less rain I could get some more riding in!

Did my first oil and filter change a couple of days ago. Ran this oil for over 5300 miles. (Shell Rotella 15w40 and a Fram filter). Used the Fram because I had it already. Probably will go with a K&N next time. Had devil of a time getting the plastic head covers off, but finally did it without breaking anything. Everything else went well with the oil change. While I was at it, I pulled the rear wheel and serviced the splines with the correct moly paste. Checked the final drive oil level and it was OK.
? Should I remove the final drive and use the moly paste on the drive shaft splines? I do this on my Goldwing every few years.

I slotted the mid level seat slots further on the 03 to have the seat low at the back and mid up front like the 06.
Changed final drive fluid in both bikes.

Nothing! Plans for the weekend was to at least wash the 2010....

Wife won, I installed her Vanity/Sink in the downstairs bathroom, which took ALL WEEKEND!

And she wonders why it took me four years to get around to installing it! :well1:

You should never have to concern yourself with the actual driveshaft. I pulled everything apart a few years ago to get to the U-joint (which had NO play in it at around 114K I think), and every part was like new. When the wheel is off for tire changes, I clean the "hub" splines with a toothbrush and brake cleaner and then apply a thin coating on both surfaces using a solder flux brush (basically a stiff paint brush). At 135K miles, my splines show absolutely no wear.

By the way, I've used the Honda filter and synthetic motor oil (10w30) since new and change it at the end of each season (normally around 11-12K per season).

My plans of washing the 2010 were sidelined again, I had to finish the vanity/sink and then she found other things to take my weekend up with! :work1:

This week, I'll be turning the 70,000 mark on the 2010, so, I'll need to change oil also, but unless I can do that tomorrow....:oilleak:
