What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Coulda removed the fender, but i didnt want to. This works if youre good at sealing all the gaps where paint can go. I missed one spot, will have to clean it off fender, right of reflector.

...final drive filler plug was loose. Tightened that up and SNAP followed by a lot of profanity.

If I can't get the threaded part of our the drive housing, it's a 10 day wait for a local shop to have the time to do it.

(Part #2 on the final drive fische, for those that are interested).
10 days just fly by don't they... I loaded it into a van. Picking it back up tomorrow. :)

Deze week, en op truck gereden

Anyway to test it without yankin it out?
Nope. Pretty much if you never get 3 bars just 1 or 2 it's probably the thermostat stuck open. If you get more than three bars with a full radiator and overflow jug it's probably the thermostat stuck closed.

Obviously there are other problems that could be the cause of either of the above symptoms but as far at the thermostat is concerned you'll never know until you see it stuck open or drop it in hot water and see that it doesn't.

It a good running ST the gauge will show 3 bars in just a very few minutes after first starting (sooner when it's warm natch). And no matter how hot it gets it'll be rare to see it above 3 bars. Like a deuce always saying 'Two beers...' a good ST will always show 3 bars. [Exceptions to rules apply - statement void where prohibited by law.]

Exceptions to rules apply
Such as riding in air temps of -4C. Might take 20+ mins of highway speeds to show 3 bars, and when you slow down again, it might drop to 2 bars. :thumb:

-4*C....

Not a problem here yet, but never know with bovine flatulance induced global change
:rofl1:

This weekend will be in the 3 digit *F zone

It was exactly that behavior that led me to suspect / realize that my thermostat had failed. Hard for them southern Calleeforney guys to replicate those conditions, though, unless they leave the state.

Currently low 20s*C here. Why do you think I was happy to find a random unconnected wire under the seat recently?

It's labelled "switched positive"... so before next winter, that'll get a thicker gauge wire and be connected to a heated seat that I haven't bought yet.

Seeing the temp gauge reading 1-2 bars for a while ain't a problem, if your fingers are blue! Though you guys in warmer climates must run the fan constantly! Mine kicks into action somewhere around 17C air temp.

Never seen the 4th bar light up, not convinced it even works...

Here in SoCal while the thermostat was stuck I was not able to get 3 bars on 70 degree days unless going up hill or during "Spirited" riding. Morning temps in the surrounding mountains were in the high 40's and it wouldn't go past 2 bars no matter how hard I pushed up the grades.

Nope, BTDT and at temperatures much lower then -4° C, like -4° F. Three bars it is and three bars it shall be.

Sewed a strap on the 06 Givi rack to do this241902
Then put a clutch mc rebuild kit in the 95 and rode it 31 miles during sunset.

Put on a brand new SMC (Secondary Master Cylinder) on today, the old one had a seized piston inside of it. I put a rebuild kit in the old one to have it as a back up.
Rear brakes work perfect from the new SMC, rotates and the piston applies pressure to the rear.

Flushed the coolant, new thermostat, oil and filter, changed the rear end oil. Now I need to bleed the clutch and brakes, and rebuild the forks.
