What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

When I live in the 'pocket' I routinely rode all over the river roads of the Sac river.
Great fun, especially the midnight runs.
My duplex looked out along the river.

At one time the Pocket Road area was a wilderness!

Changed the battery on the 11, new Yuasa YTX14 - BS installed and the Honda GS battery to be binned. £62.00 from a national motor factors. Plugged it into the new Optimate 2 (they're getting smaller) and all is green after 30 mins. Happy Days.

Fitted a front Fender Extenda to AmethyST to keep road crud away from the engine. Hopefully it will cut down on the salt spray in the winter which gets blasted everywhere! Need to let the stickers set for 12 hours before re-fitting the front mudguard/fender.

Installed the steering head bearings, replaced the stem and set the preload. If that’s what it’s called!

Installed new upper and lower red hoses with new clamps, thermostat, o-ring and rad cap then reinstalled the radiator, overflow hose and reservoir.

I’m installing a new temperature sensor and reached a moment of uncertainty: what do you use as a thread sealant for these? Teflon tape or an RTV type of sealant?

I'd go with the tape. Stray sealant in engines tends to block things up!

IIRC I used regular pipe thread goop on mine. Don't remember seeing any evidence of tape residue on the old one, how about yours? Its a very fine thread pitch and fairly shallow threads, wasn't sure how much tape I could even use on it, so I went with the goop instead. lemme know how the tape worked out for you.

Years ago I used green hermetite on these things, don't know if it's still made but it always worked really well on water/steam connections. Easy to undue after as well. Of course with progress the colour will have changed.

Edit, it's apparently discontinued.

removed the throttle bodies and pulled my t-stat housing. I was surprised to find that all of the hoses were leaking. I had been catching wiffs of coolant all summer, but my coolant level wasnt going down, so I wasnt too concerned. I will replace the hoses and clamps and seal up anything else that could leak. I want to take a minute and give a shout out to Michael (CYYJ). I stopped by his place and he set me up with some breeze clamps and a wealth of knowledge from his experience doing this exact task. Truly a great guy and an asset to the forums.

I purchased an OEM tank pad from a wrecked 2005 ST from a salvager on eBay that was willing to remove the pad and sell it to me separate from the tank. After cleaning off the old tape, I noticed the part number printed on the back was 08P61-MCS-8000-01, not 08P61-MCS-100. See the attached photo. I removed the old 2-sided tape, got it cleaned up, applied new tape and installed it on my ST. Also see attached photo. I was curious about that different number and did some internet searching to confirm it is the same tank pad. The number is shortened to 08P61-MCS-800. Even though many suppliers show it as unavailable, I see Amazon has an active listing as well as a dealer in Chattanooga, TN. See links on this post. So for at least a few of you, there are some new OEM tank pads available out there with that alternate number.

You may want to consider new "O" rings on the joint pipes Part # 91331-MCP-900 (X2) while you have the throttle body already removed. $1.76 each

Congrats on finally getting one of that pad.

I bought Honda's cleaner/polish at the dealer for half the cost of the smaller Plexus cans. It's even cheaper at Amazon and does a great job.

I’ll echo your shout out, Bmacleod. Michael came out last Saturday and helped me sort out the valve check and change the timing belt. Thanks, Michael!

PS Bmacleod, we’re neighbors-ish. I’m pretty much at Townline and 2

cool. We'll have to get together when riding riding season gets here. This snow last night doesn't make that day seem like it will ever get here...

What did I do with my ST1100? I ruined it. Not knowing the history of my bike, I figured some preventative maintenance was in order. It's a 95 with 60 thousand miles, so I figured a timing belt, coolant hoses and slave cylinder rebuild were a good place to start. I ordered the parts and printed off additional info found online, plus i have the Honda and Clymers service manuals to help. Over the past week I tore it down and reassembled with only minimal difficulty to be expected. started it up, no issues, put the tupperware back on and decided to go for a short ride since it was so nice out. I got about 6 miles from home and it started really rattling, i pulled in the clutch and it immediately died. I coasted to the side of the street and tried to restart it. Only it knocks really bad. Called my brother in law for him to come pick me up with his trailer and take me home. Got it home and hoping it was something simple, but already expecting the worst, well I tore it apart again, much easier the second time, and saw the tensioner spring for the timing belt fell off the upper retainer. The timing was approximately 1/4 turn out. I retimed it and tried to start it, but only a slight knock and wouldn't even attempt to fire. So that is how I ruined my bike. I don't know what to do? Should I part it out? Buy a replacement used motor? But new valves and replace them? I'm sick in my stomach since this happened.
