What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Rode to Anahiem (Orange Co) and Compton (LA) today, in 55-65*F with party cloudy. Was nice until I saw a freeway (60 East) stopping all emergency vehicles on site crash. Might have the pic of it off the head cam.

I fixed my oil leak! Someone had had the left cam cover off but had trapped the edge of a thin rubber mat under the gasket on the inside when they refitted it. As a result there was oily debris all down the front and left side of the motor. This cleaned off nicely and the bike has stayed oil tight after a 330km ride today. I also fitted some LED bulbs that I had to hand, they made a nice improvement to the lighting. I'm really loving my 13 now, after the balancer adjustment, SV synch, plug replacement and oil and filter change it sounds seriously sweet and is going like a rocket. Before the work it was a bit rattly/shuddery just off idle, which I think was the gears on balancers allowing a bit much freeplay.

I trading it in for the 2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT. If someone would like to buy my 2008 ST1300, I would take any reasonable offer but must buy before this Thursday March 28. It is listed on Craigslist at

Congrats on your new Yamaha Tracer 900 GT. Let us know what you think of your new triple. Maybe a bit less wind protection but a noticeable drop in weight with a snappy motor.
Good luck with your ST sale.

I see you had to re-route the clutch hose. Any other issues?

The only issue I encountered was due to negligence. After I re-routed the clutch hose and made sure that the rest of the wiring and cables would reach the new handlebar height.... I forgot to mark my clutch lever position. It was positioned lower than usual after my modification. I was still able to safely operate the bike... But it felt awkward. I made a few adjustments, then took a few short test rides, and it is back to normal.

No wonder you're banging your head on the desk BBF, that bike is for nothing money. Despite the enthusiasm on this site for the ST it is obvious there is little or no new appetite out there. I think that would equate to about £3500.00, which is about as little I've seen an ST advertised for over here, regardless of age and mileage. It looks a very tidy bike and I hope you sell it before having to give it to the dealer.
Good luck with the Yamaha, I don't think you'll miss the ST fairing where you live.

Yesterday I changed the oil and sparkplugs on the 2010.

I'm still having issues with that rear tire I replaced the patch/plug on, leaking. I might throw some more stop leak in it. Just need to get 5,000 miles out of it!

I pulled the rear shock over the weekend to take it in for a service. The preload seal at the shock has sprung a leak and the oil is all over the shock and down onto the swing arm. I had the shock rebuilt about four years (50k km) ago with a heftier Race Tech spring and Gold Valve kit. While that cured the wallowing and bottoming out while riding two-up it has resulted in a harsh ride over relatively minor bumps when riding solo. I'm assured by the suspension tech I'm taking it to that this can be fixed, so I'm looking forward to that, but not to cleaning up the oily mess on the swingarm. :)

What did I do with my ST today?? I got it out of Hostage......Igofar. What can I say. This man is a wizard. When I came down, I was just hoping for an abs brakes flush and a throttle body balance, starter valve sync. I was embarrassed by how many real problems he found. Some my doing, some by prior owner and the dealers he took it to. The list is huge. I am sure that I miss a few item but this is some of what I got done.
New brakes and flush front and rear.
Flush clutch
Throttle body balance...off by three bars, he got it within one micro bar, that's 10% of one bar
New rear flange bearings, clean and lube all rear end parts
New air cleaner
Changed the oil
Cleaned and lubed all switches, so smooth now
Lubed all locks and ignition switch
Re-aligned front end, way off center
Lots of non secured bolts, lack of proper locktite
Better license plate bolts
Starter valve sync
Plus a lot more I have not listed here.

I can not thank him enough for taking his whole weekend to make my bike better than new. I strongly recommend that if any forum member is ever within three states of AZ to make the run to Tucson and just hand over the keys, wear a helmet, and let this fine gentleman tweak your ride to better than new. Just know that no matter how good you think your bike is.......he will find stuff you have never even thought about. Oh ya, he made my right service panel easier to remove with one of his little tricks. Ya gotta meet this guy to understand.
Thanks Larry...YOU DA MAN..!!!!!!

Glad Larry was able to take your bike hostage and set it right! :hat3:

One of these days, I'll make it over to see him! The big question will be, which bike to take him! :rofl1:

Complete agreement...Larry is da man!

I would have thought that it would have been very instructive to have watched Larry perform his magic so that YOU could do similar repairs/maint. yourself in the future?

Hope to visit the OCD garage some time in the future myself.
Way to be Larry.

Thanks for the kind words, I just wish Kari was feeling better, and that we would have had time to do a little riding together.
If you do get a chance to test ride your bike, I would suggest you ride up Mount Lemmon this morning. The views are beautiful, the roads are clear, and there is a nice little Pizza shop in summer haven, and a gift shop that sells fantastic Fudge by the pound a couple doors down from it.
On your way up the "Hill" you'll be able to see the entire city of Tucson, and all the surrounding mountains, I'm pretty sure all the way to New Mexico. There are Pull Off's every 1/4 mile or so if you want to take pictures. Its only about a 27 mile ride up the hill, but within those miles you'll go from approximately 2600 ft. alt. to over 9000 ft. alt.!
I look forward to hearing your review of how your bike rides and handles now, interested in knowing if you still have heat coming off the engine, and what kind of fuel mileage you'll be getting now.
Ride safe, and if your ever in the area again, please feel free to stop by and let me continue tweaking your bike, as I'm sure I'll find a few more things that I didn't have time to address this visit :rofl1:
You guys have a safe trip home....Hug the wife, and pet the dog for us.

Not today, but I replaced the clutch slave cylinder on my 03 Sunday afternoon.

The actual removal/replacement wasn't that bad, but it took a long time to manually bleed the system. One of these days I need to buy a vacuum bleeder.

The tool that helped the most was a Husky brand 12mm flex head ratcheting wrench with a lock to hold the angle of the head. Without it, I don't know how I would've gotten the banjo bolt out.
