What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

For around a week now, I've had a strange, barely perceptible vibration/wobble in the bars.... Given I fitted the Helibars riser, I figured that was the prime candidate.

So I've just come in from attacking it.

Long story short, the right bolt that mounts the helibars to the head was loose by about 1/3rd turn. Commuting tomorrow will tell me if I've solved the strange vibes.

Also, it looks like the PO made a bit of a rush job wiring up the front 12v socket. When I put the bike back together, the FI system didn't prime. Wiggling the bars I heard the relay click a few times. Adjusting the wiring into a better place allowed the bike to start up.

When time permits, I'll investigate electrics further, I suspect the front 12v takes power from the right side switchgear - so at a guess, it's fouling the kill switch connection with a dodgy earth.

Sorry to hear about your 'minor' stroke.
Hope you take good care and follow your Drs. instructions.
Thanks folks. At least I will have a scar both sides of my neck and will be evenly balanced!! Previous one was 2 years ago, so am an old hand at recovery! Hopefully that should be the end of them as both arteries now decoked!!

I started in on some maintenance items on my new-to-me 09 1300, the start of a steep learning curve I suspect. First up was an oil change, and I was able to conduct that without too much grief although the placement of the filter makes for a lot of crawling around on the ground; getting a lift sounds like a good idea, and a shallower oil drain pan! And why did they make the filler neck so small?

After that I took a look at the balance shaft adjusters, my bike has a rattly shudder at low revs that disappears by 2k, and I suspect it was those. Adjusting them with the bike running per the manual was pretty easy and using the sound to get them correct was intuitive; my static testing suggests that was the source of the noise, but I need to road test to be sure.

Not wanting to cast any bad ju-ju your way but should the time come you smell or see coolant outside of the ST you'll want to read up here on the various coolant leak related threads before opening up your bike.

Also in my garage are a 1990 ST1100, 1997 VTR1000 and my 99 VFR800 has just departed. I am intimately familiar with the cooling system in each, they've all needed new hoses and thermostats in their time with me, and I also replaced the radiator cap, elbow o-rings and the reservoir hose on the 11. Good thing I like to maintain.

Next up on the 13 is a starter valve synch, new spark plugs and I need to fix a weeping cam cover gasket (half moon leak) so will take look at the valves at the same time.

Finally had some decent weather, so took the bike out to road test my new MCCruise......
I am seriously pleased - :run1:

Operation is smooth - no jerking or surging - works as well as the one in my new car.
:hat1:to the MCCruise folks - a great product - Highly Recommended ......

Today STacy zoomed down the I-5 super slab to Portland (Oregon that is) from Seattle as her rider had a mission to deliver some ham radios to a friend for her bug out bag. Given the traffic encountered on the 400 mile round trip the zoom was a rather sedate 8 hours of rider time...

Installed the add-on front fender extender. A much needed item, as the front fender on the 1300 is too short. Looks good too. Also, I've added three notches to my new Bell Star helmet. The only gripe I had about the helmet (no intermediate detents in the visor). Perfect now!BAA98D73-3F56-4625-BB70-761C320EDAD1.jpeg

Hm. I might try that with my Neotec. The only complaint I have is the Multitec and Neotec visors don't have as small a first position as my older Shoeis. I like to crack the the visor a tad to prevent fogging but that first click is too much.

Installed it back on my helmet. Found that I need bigger (deeper) detents. I'll take it back to work with me tomorrow and make them a little deeper. Best to go slowly rather than go too deep and have to buy a new shield (they're not cheap!) I used a small round file.
Here's a pick of the fender extender. Put some pop rivets in it this afternoon to ensure it not coming off.

Pulled the rear wheel off and installed at T valve stem so I can install the TPMS sensor on the rear tire. Already done it on the front. Letting it set off the bike to make sure there are no air leaks, will install tomorrow.

I raced the rain home once again! Didn't quite make it, but only had to ride from the gas station to home, all of 2.4 miles in a light rain! It came down hard about 15 minutes after getting home!

Did a starter valve synch on my ST1300 last night. Had a little difficulty with one of the air trumpet screws but a quick whack with an impact screwdriver sorted that. I opted not to block the pair reed blocks at the heads and instead put a bung in the hose that I pulled off the airbox. Actually I can't quite work out why leaving the PAIR system operation would be an issue but no doubt someone here has an idea. Aside from the airbox removal not that big of a job, and just hoisting the tank was easier than getting the ST11 torn down for a carb synch. Access to the SV screws is nice once you get in there, and easier than they were on my VFR800. I do wish Mr Honda had made the vacuum hoses to the 5-way connector a few cm longer. Some oil was present around the breather which I expected as the oil window showed the level to be a bit high. Next up will be spark plugs and the weepy cam cover gasket (actually I should get out and ride the darned thing first!).

Progressive shock and spring, Daughtery Motorsports reworked the forks, Delkevic exhaust, 2nd set of aux lights, dash shelf, rewired and got the signals in the top case working, switched to all LED bulbs, all new fluids, hoses, ss clutch line, replaced water pump, cleaned the gas tank, rejetted carbs, new paint (dark grey metal flake), valve job, new horn, voltmeter, more.
