What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

On another note,I picked up some pieces FOR my ST. Water pump gasket and those 2 pesky front fender screws....and the rubber grommets that were already supposed to be there. Some day next week I'll do my self imposed 100,000 mile work....with the addition of thermostat and water pump gasket change, coolant flush, and breeze clamps

I would not recommend that: My PO had lights mounted there, which I removed - because they busted up my fender mounts, on both sides.

Not sure what your PO did, I'd be curious to see, quite a few folks have mounted lights there, myself included, and not had that particular outcome.

Tried a JB Weld repair, but as you can see that only worked for awhile. Now I'll likely have to replace the fender.
There is a metal stiffener bracket that is supposed to be installed behind the fender to reinforce it at this attachment point. The reflector is supposed to be attached to this bracket- not screwed in to the fork screw hole. This bracket is supposed to be installed by the dealer during the prep when they install the front wheel. I have noticed that these stiffener brackets are missing on many ST1300's and the reflector has been screwed directly in to the fork through the fender. If the stiffener bracket is in place and a light was attached to the stiffener bracket where the reflector is intended to go I don't think the fender would break as all of the force is being applied to the fork through the bracket and not to the fender.

STacy took her rider out to LaConner for lunch and he treated her to a ride down Whidbey Island hoping to see some Growlers doing touch and go's at the Naval Air Station but no joy today. She op'd for photo op with the Cascades Mountain Chain in the background. All in all, a nice 220 mile ride.

I'm sure you're right, Andrew. The PO put the light on without that bracket (pic attached), and I'm sure that's what crushed the fender.
When I realized what was happening there I removed the lights and trashed them right away - but the damage was done.
Is that bracket strong enough to hold a light securely ? Just wondering, I'm not going to put one there again.

Always better than picking up pieces OF your ST.

As Andrew mentioned a lot of member have mounted lights there and haven't had any problems. As long as they're somewhat lightweight lamps there shouldn't be any problems.

That's for damn sure! :thumb:

Maybe they happen to have the brackets, or would they be visible? Are they available now?

This is obviously a 1300 issue. Is there an 1100 version, or are none needed for this bike?

What is the prescribed method of fork-mounting lights for the 1100? And which lights?

Bled some clutch fluid out with the help on this forum, I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to look like this. None showing up in the window yet, I can’t figure out why...

Yes, providing they are not very huge heavy lights like Baja lights.
If you are going to replace the fender I suggest that you purchase and install the stiffener brackets as well. The purpose of the brackets is to support the fender and prevent it from breaking. Their purpose is not for attaching additional lights.

You can tell if they are there just by looking at where the reflector is positioned. If the reflector is screwed directly in to the fork through the fender the bracket is missing. The reflector is not supposed to be screwed to the fork. It is supposed to be attached aft of the fork to this bracket.

Yes, 1300. The 1100 has a similar bracket but if I remember correctly (haven't had an 1100 for a long time) the bracket that held the reflector also held the brake hoses so it would be hard for it to be missing and you not know it.

The STeed is still sleeping under its cover at the front of the garage waiting for the back alley to reappear from under the melting snow and ice, but I just ordered a Bestem tank pad and sent an email inquiring about getting the rear shock serviced before riding season. The preload fluid is leaking at the shock end and I also want to get the RaceTech gold valve damping adjusted. It rides fine when two-up, but is harsh over minor bumps when riding solo. I'm hoping a relatively nearby (2 hr drive) suspension guru can help me out with this.

Im not to good with pics, since my phone camera got busted. Sorry. I did make a shade bracket/cover for my tablet. I noticed if I held my black glove in front of the reflection on the screen I could see it mucho better, so construction began. Its on the bike awaiting testing......

Ok so I emailed them to myself then downloaded.

Finally got around to swapping out the clutch lever for an adjustable motion pro OEM style, no idea why I put up with the nonadjustable one for so long, its reach was far from comfortable for my wimpy hands

Ive never owned one before, but it has already located a cat. 2nd outing with it running. I figured I would like it if I cant find a jackrabbit. It actually has some other qualities, voltage, time, overspeed, that I didnt really think about when buying. I have found them to be really convenient. Compared to my VTX the ST is very long legged.
The dash has charging plugs for everything, Hawkshead TPMS, Big Bike Grip Htrs, Uniden, Tablet mount, Phone mount. I need a inverter for laptop, I have a lighter plug to hook to, but I also have a dB charger/jumper that says it will run laptop, havent gotten that far into it yet.

Bill brought his bike and my trailer back from Las Vegas. He was able to get the bike transferred over to Nevada Plates, in his name.

We unloaded and I set it up so I could ride it into work this morning, and then tonight, I'll ride it back to his place and pick up my 2010, and ride it home!

I just love it when a plan comes together! :hat3:

Took the winter screen off and put the original one back on for the summer. Also fitted a visor/deflector/extender to the top for when (not if!) it rains this summer.

Got 11 days left before I can ride again following surgery for another minor stroke and can't wait!!

Sorry to hear about your 'minor' stroke.
Hope you take good care and follow your Drs. instructions.
