What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Got out to ride some twisties and dirt, gravel roads. The bike actually feels pretty good on dirt. I guess muddy roads are next. Heading to prudhoe bay end of may....lots of dirt, mud road.

Believe it or not - I know it looks like a mess but I got this!!! workin on the rear shock and while apart checkin anything not normally available. FYI it’s a PITA but cleaned up and inspected her back end spent 8 hours today just enjoying the shop and working on this and that IMG_4612.jpegIMG_4614.jpegP

If I can ever get out of my own way, I have the needful for a nice shop - not a great one, but nice - there's too much computer leftover crap to work comfortably.
The bike(-s) must be wheeled out onto the driveway in order to access sides, front, and rear.
Fortunately (!!!) the incoming GS/A, no petite damsel, is motivation to perform some RADICAL garage surgery.
And soon.

Always welcome to use mine when in town. I just made this a priority for my retired years.

Rode to church, then to lunch. Leaving lunch friend said your rear tire looks low, I said it felt funny when I was leaving the parking lot.
No gummy worms, no cement, no plug tools and no compressor..
I left everything at home because my tires are newer, never had a flat on my cruiser with tubed tires in the 6 years I owed it , but fortunately a nice gentleman in a Tesla, how ironic, rescued me. He had all the necessary tools needed and within 10 minutes I was on my way home leak free.
Ended my ride early, didn’t want to take any chances. Sitting at 44 psi once I got home and still no leak.
Ordering some ride on in the mean time since the hole is in the contact patch area and deciding on whether or not to replace the tire. Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT purchased in 2020 by PO. He put about 1k on it and I have put about 3k on it.

Copied from my thread:
Hey, gang. The original for-sale thread was automatically deleted, so I decided to post a new thread.

Remember the '96 ST1100 I bought from Lance (@mansell2)? I trailered it home, took it off the trailer with my son's help, took it for a one-mile ride, then parked and covered it for a few weeks. I finally got around to uncovering it and checking it out more closely. The three wires to the front-left signal socket were sticking out of the vent of the mirror cover, and had blown the fuse.

I popped it open, plugged the wires back onto the back of the socket, put in a bulb, put it back together, replaced the signal fuse, and it worked like it should, so I took the bike for inspection. Despite one low-beam headlight filament being out, it passed inspection. I guess enough bikes come from the factory that way. So, I went for a ride which ended up being about an hour.

To absolutely no surprise to me, the bike ran flawlessly. Despite the 'choke' appearing to not function, it starts immediately and idles fine. Within one minute, it revs and accelerates cleanly. It handles the road and curves as well as my '01, and there is only one thing that needs improvement to suit me; the seat and handlebar positioning is suited to a much smaller rider than I am.

Of course, I can easily swap the RDL seat on my '01, but that would only make the reach to the OEM handlebar even farther. Fortunately, I bought a second original Helibar set a while back, and just recently a pair of extended riser clamps. What I will have to determine is whether I can bring the grips high enough with the existing cables, hoses, and bar wiring harnesses.

For now, I effectively have a short-trip bike and a long-distance bike. The '96 is okay for a while, but as my '01 was when I got it, not suitable for me for a long ride until I make the above mods and add a pair of highway blades. It also lacks an NEP throttle lock and a TPMS, as well as an in-pocket 12v power outlet for my automotive-style Garmin GPS and my phone charger.

Not today, but Saturday, ripped off the plastics (only chewed up one screw ), drained coolant, unhooked radiator for access to many hoses to check - need to figure out how to see and snug the ones under the airbox....
Noticed liquid on floor at left side of front wheel  looks like left fork seal is leaking so need to try to clean the seal to see if it gets better (while I order the new seals as they will inevitably leak again now).
Will try to check all coolant hoses and then refill coolant and warm up to see if it still sprays out :thumb: then change oil and filter while I'm there.
This will be done during the odd evening this week so all going well on the road for the weekend

Two weekends ago I went to my first offroad balance training with group of adventure buddies. Four hours of gym exercises, whole body was soring for three days after that) Also broke windshield a little bit when dropped my ST, but fixed it this weekend.
Going to repeat. Very helpful for daily riding, I started to ride more relaxed and bike feels kind of lighter for me. Link to the video

@Alberto : great experience! I also tried grass ride and it was like on butter :D I was really happy when I was back on the road after that grass...

I took my bike on the "over the hills" trip, great ride with friend of mine (he has really fast bike, but somehow we found symbiosis :D )

That's pretty impressive for a heavy street bike on street tires...

That instructor guy (who test-rode my ST without helmet on video), did really impressive things with it, and with other heavy BMW GS-s. As I got it, he is experienced motocross rider.
