What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

LOL - I sold my 2016 AT in August 2021 and took 1/2 the cash to buy a 2007 ST1300 with 14,000Km on the clock. I loved the AT, but after 5 years of fun, I found I was having too my injuries taking it on trails I had no right to be on and frankly had to remove the temptation. Now I have an XT250 to deal with the dirt "itch" and it is a bloody goat! Then I have the ST1300 for the touring duties I enjoy. So yeah, it's all about having the right tool for the job!

Cool windy afternoon here. Just walked the dog (again) so he’s having a ‘power nap’ on the sofa. Just fancy some cake……why not! Should I take the car…..nah….take the Pan! The bakery is only 6 or 7 miles away so it’s a quick trip there and back. Fresh baked generous slice of Cherry Bakewell safely in each pannier (one for me one my lovely wife) back home, kettle on cup of tea, happy life!

I got out with my ADV buddy for a backroads run from Berkeley to San Jose, and for some reason I think I lost interest in the ADV segment. Too popular makes the used market too pricey for a cheapskate like me, but if Honda rolls out a new 750 Transalp, maybe..

Interesting...

I turn 50 this year. Having spent the last 3 years riding mostly off road competition stuff, my STreet bikes have been neglected. 2004 ST and A 05 FZ1. The ST was purchased last year and I have ridden it maybe 2000 miles.

I crashed pretty hard at my last moto race and started thinking about getting an ADV bike. Slowing things down... I had a 640 ADV years ago and have fond memories of getting it through some tough spots. But a good ADV bike is all of 10K and I am not sure I want to spend that.

...anyway, after a lot of YouTube vids of ADV and some soul searching I think that I agree, the segment has lost something for me.

So I am planning on spending the winter going through my ST1300 in hopes of riding its wheels off next year. HELL, the thing will do a lot of the dirt roads that ADV guys take hours and hours of video on...

Maybe I am just "getting older"... I sure am excited to dig into this bike.

Last full day blast of the season before winter sets in at Southwestern British Columbia.
If you're ever near Vancouver, the Duffy Lake Road (DLR) or sometimes referred to as the Duffy Lake Loop is still one of my all time favourites after decades of riding far and wide. On Oct 8th - we hit 3 degrees celsius at the summit of the pass before dropping back down into the Whistler / Pemberton area. The Duffy Lake area received a massive dump of snow the following day, so timing is everything!

I got as far as Pemberton and back to Coquitlam must be a couple months back now, only second time on the sea to sky with the bike. It's a great ride, glad you were able to do the loop before the snowfall, I'll be doing the full deal first chance I get in the early spring. I guess it's all paved now at least.

Last weekend for insurance, maybe a break in the rain tomorrow, maybe not.

I have a KLR. I have no interest in any of the liter class, heavier and more expensive ADV bikes. To be honest, once I started riding dirt bikes, I haven't done anything with the KLR. I should get rid of it.

LOL. Yea, wanted to keep the bike balanced you see, too much cake on one side could cause me issues! I had mine with a generous helping of pouring cream, just to top up my cholesterol. Nom nom.

Got close to a couple hours in between the Vancouver rain this afternoon, great day, good excuse to do, well nothing then get a ride in before dinner.

Got to put some braking and evasive maneuvers to the test on the wet roads, will be sticking [literally] with the Michelins, love the late Saturday afternoon drivers out here, I think it's a mindset; I've got my errands, my groceries, now who's ass do I gotta kill to get in front of the TV.

I had lane takers, tailgaters, and one pretty good oncoming left turn at a green light, you never get lonely.

Switched back to the Corbin Seat a week or so now, actually not bad, when I first tried it on in the spring I didn't like it at all, but I think I'm riding a bit more relaxed now and it's actually comfortable, Plus it makes my driveway look so smooth.

I think I might try out the heaters, measure the amperage on a separate 12V supply first, each of the two settings, then maybe do a switched fused home run circuit.
Tomorrow's more heavy rain so will be a good day to set it up in the consume-atory and subject it to technical analysis.

Aaargh. O-ring and seal still haven't arrived. Latest update from UPS sez the ""package" (1.6 oz envelope) was handed off to USPS in Kingman at 6:15 this morning. Since everything mailed in Kingman is final sorted in Las Vegas, I don't expect to see it before Wednesday afternoon. :(
