What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Took our 1991 out for a ride this morning. At stops, the idle dropped waaay down and exhibited a rough exhaust note. So, I upped the idle to 1k rpm so it wouldn't die at stops, the rough sound/feel persisted. At between 2500 and 3000 rpm, it perks up, sounds fine and pulls fine. I suspect I've lost a plug or cap. Will go mining tomorrow....rain is supposed to begin and persist the remainder of the week.

Valve clearance check. I'm going to need shims. I am considering all 8 valves to move them to mid range. Measured in inches and left off zeros.PXL_20210927_190709131.jpg

I would agree for you to adjust your 8 exhaust valves to the mid/high range. I adjusted 13 out of 16 valves when I did mine with only 49,000 kms. Only 6 were below min spec, the rest at min spec. If you only want to change a .001" increment, it's a .025mm change. Say from 152.5 to 150
I used a shim calculator and it even gives you the new honda shim part #. Not many places besides the dealership, can you buy a .025mm size difference. Normally they go from say 150 to 155 etc.

Good luck

Did a drive over Trail Ridge Road one last time before they close it for the winter. It is typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day (or until first snowfall).
I just rode that for the first time a couple weeks ago. Enjoyed it very much.

I decided since the weather was getting cooler for the rest of the week, I pulled out the :bk13: and had it take me for a ride. I decided to ride 56 to the west and stop at the town of Panaca Nevada. While there I looked up my wife's Uncle's grave site. And sent her a picture of his marker.

The temps were in the low to mid 80's, so it made a great ride!

Motivated to go for a ride today after i found this pushed in place by the triple tree. See pic. If Mr Squirrel has time to do this i am not riding enough. Our rear garage door is usually open all day so Doggo can go in and out.

If not too late, replace those carb insulator clamp screws with allen heads... makes tightening a lot easier since you're not pressing on the screw head, and subsequently rotating the clamp.

The clamps won’t rotate if oriented correctly.

Was able to get the rear light connected correctly as I can. Need to tear it apart and replace all the janky connections with a more professional and secure connectors.

Shimmed cams, had someone else mount the rear tire, bled brakes, and removed a gum ball size of dried out moly paste. Now, do you use moly 60 or 77?

Changed the oil and washed my ST11 for the first time in a while! She had a few trips of grime on her.

Not really responding to myself here.....just another lesson learned that I felt I should pass on.

I spend yesterday morning checking spark plugs, caps and wires. Then connectors along the way to the alternator. I could not find a fault that would cause rough/low idle. Decided to check the drain path at the gas cap.....and found my problem. Apparently I dislodged the idle adjust cable from its mount at the gas station a few days before and it 'unwound', for lack of a better word.
Anyway, I snapped back into position, started up and readjusted the idle. Went for a stumble free ride. I just had not noticed it was loose when the problem presented itself.

This brings up a question about the little mount block. It isn't available by itself, comes with the fuel catch box which is no longer available........Has anyone come up with a replacement block?

Started the bike for the first time after reshimming the cams. Runs beautifully. Don't leave your coffee mug on the trunk plate though when holding 4k RPM to check for leaks . Definitely need to rinse out the tail now.

Mine doesn't unwind when I remove it from the mount you refer to. I've never really paid much attention to the cable, but perhaps it needs some lubrication. I don't think the mount squeezes the cable enough to keep it from rotating.
