What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

My ST1300 was crying pink tears (coolant) through her weeping hole, so I replaced the mechanical seal.
Two cracks in the ceramic seal were the cause of her sadness. Also new paint on her beautiful engine, happiness is now smiling at us.

Groeten (i.e. greetings), Gertjan

I wonder if the seal was damaged because the wrong coolant was used. Pink or orange indicates DexCool coolant and it should never be used in the ST engine, only silicate & borate free coolant that is usually tinted blue or green.

Last Sunday I went for a 130 mile afternoon ride with a couple of buddies after we all did some of our routine maintenance in preparation for this riding season.
When I got home I noticed the left fork was starting to get a bit oily! 2010 ST with 52,500 on it That I bought in 2011
So I ordered up fork kits for my Wing and the ST (Wing has been leaking). Picked up the parts yesterday and did the forks on the ST today at home.
Took most of the day but got a quick test ride in and did some cleaning and organization of stuff in the garage taking my time.
So I think the ST is ready for the year.
Next week or 2 I'll tackle the Wing.
Working on the bike is therapeutic for me once I get the time where I don't feel rushed. :):)

Hum... don't want to start another coolant thread, but... just a quick note.

I think we cannot rely on colour only, but on what the manual is asking and on what the coolant is made of.

Some pink coolant out there, might not be good for the ST, but some are very good.

For example, my Motorex M3 coolant is pink, it is ethylene glycol based, silicate free, specially formulated for aluminum engine.
Probably a bit expensive... about 3 times the price of the good blue honda stuff. Yeah... now I know it.

So, my point is : not all pink are the same. :thumb:

I put a couple of washers between the bar-end weight and the bar end for my NEP to fit.
After moving the grip outward about 1/8" inches everything fit. Road tested it yesterday and seemed ok. Read where one rider installed the same on 3 motorcycles, so i gave a try.

I had to add the washers; otherwise the grip wouldn't rotate freely. There was too much friction without them.

This is my fourth bike with the NEP throttle lock. It's handy for faster idle without having to use the choke.

I use G12+ long life coolant, I was told that this is okay

Well today was the day I got rid of the only thing I disliked about the Pan. The horrible slippy seat covers. No matter whether wearing leathers, textiles or denims I always seemed to end up trying to straddle the tank. Stripped the old ones off this morning and six hours later I am a happy bunny. Not the easiest of jobs, but after a test ride I am really pleased. Now we just need lockdown to end.IMG_0374.JPG

Looks good. What did you use to recover?

I went out to my ST and hugged it while saying "Don't worry. I will never never take on a steep narrow rocky mountain pass!"

just a short ride up and over to redford, mi. then south to inkster mi. around to sw. detroit and back to the house just to see how my foot felt20210330_173008.jpg20210330_173023.jpg20210330_173044.jpg
