What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

I pushed it out of the way to take its older brother out for a ride for the first time in a year or so of non-op. I'm still thinking of selling this one as it never gets used, but it sure does handle well.

50-odd years later, I still love the UJM design principles of the late 60s to middle 70s.

Started replacing all my coolant hoses on the ST1300. Those hoses at the back of the motor above the oil filter are a real pain to change as there is no room for my hands in there. I got those changed and will continue tomorrow.

I have been a couple weeks riding without a speedometer. After searching through the threads here on ST-Owners I came to the conclusion I needed a new speed sensor. I ordered it a couple weeks ago and it showed up tonight. Took about an hour to install it. All is right in the ST world now. I want to thank the people here on this forum for their vast knowledge and helpful articles.

Brought her back home, from winter storage in a room temp garage.

Tomorrow, they are forecasting sunny and 19C / 70F. Wow... our first 70F since last fall.

Decided tomorrow will be a good time to take a day off from work. I'll leave the "montreal metro" subway tunels to all my colleagues.

Just like her, I need to spend some time on country roads, under the springtime sun.

Somewhere, along the road, I will pause for a break and a drink, in the shadow of a three, and an american robin should be there, waiting on a friend, waiting for me.

I asked a while back. There are several sets on eBay. You have to decide how many contacts you want the largest connectors in the set to have, and how many of each pair of connectors you want.

Next up... Find a way to connect into the tail light circuit for the license light without using a wire tap (hate those) and wait for properly sized switchbacks to complete the job.

That's what I did with my ST this week. :)
Well, the proper size 7443 switchback lamps arrived yesterday and I completed all but the license plate light installation. I'm not too worried about that for the time being.

So the ebay seller of the first lamps that didn't fit has been tripping over himself trying to resolve my dilemma, offering to source suitable sized lamps from other sellers on ebay and eventually providing a full refund when I declined. He's quite concerned over his seller rating and asked me to give him a positive review if he refunded fully. All I want is for him to stop advertising that lamp as suitable for an ST1300, which after several exchanges and photos I think he gets. Score one for the good guys (?).

I found some on Amazon which included a dimensioned photo in the listing (yeah!) but in my rush to get them ordered I failed to notice that the base was a 3357 instead of a 7443. Start a return to Amazon and discover a new service from them. Take the item to a UPS Store - unpackaged - show them a QR code Amazon generated, and they will package it and ship back to Amazon for no cost. o_O

In the mean time I find these on Tuesday for delivery on Thursday. Once the truck got nearby I was watching it realtime as it circulated my neighborhood and saw it inch its way, one delivery at a time until it was outside my house. That company is getting scary... yet I feel like Jim Gaffigan as he chastises the Cinnabon that he's eagerly snarfing down for being so delicious.

So the LED conversion is complete. Not a single incandescent lamp on the bike. The headlamp and markers are both rated as 6500K and look to match. The white of the switchbacks appear similar, though I don't think I had any options there. I'm pleased that the 6500K output looks white and doesn't tip-toe into a blue tint. I really dislike that. The socket of the replacement clear lens housing needed a minor adjustment with a file to remove some errant flash to allow the base to fit in. I think the factory that's making these parts are running those molds hard and they're showing signs of deterioration. Not a big deal though.

As the Brits would say, "I'm quite chuffed." (watching too many 'Wheeler Dealers', 'Top Gear' BBC, Allen Millyard YouTube videos...)

Finished up the paperwork required at the DMV to get the bike tagged. I couldn't believe it. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes! Usually that place is a nightmare. I got lucky today.

Then, fully street legal, I rode into town to get a new pair of shoes for the old girl. Dunlop Roadsmart 3's were what the shop owner recommended so that's what I went with. I used his shop for my previous motorcycles and he always did good work for a fair price. Happy to support local small businesses whenever I can.

Now, to figure out where my maiden voyage will be on Sunday morning (weather permitting)!!!

Not the first time I've heard they needed trimming. Mine did too when I got them. The bulb latching area (socket) was poorly made on mine. Flimsy is the best descripton I can think of. The rest of the lens was fine.

Completed all hose replacement on the ST1300, replaced the wax valve assembly, got it all back together and tried to do a Starter Valve Sync and found out I could not adjust the idle. So I had to remove the throttle body assembly and reroute the cable as I had it pinched off and it would not turn. I then did the Starter Valve Sync and got the air cleaner box all back on with a new air filter. I also did an oil and filter change.

I still need to replace the rear shock, install new brake pads and flush the brake and clutch fluid which will happen tomorrow.
