Itchy Boots

@SMSW ... nope
She might have something on her Blog, but I've not checked there yet
Her email from 10am CT today reads thusly (excerpted):
"I wish I had more news to report here but unfortunately, I don't. My motorcycle is still on a container ship, on its way to solid ground. The ship has been sailing slower than expected, putting a further delay on my new adventures."

She goes on to say she's also dealing with all the paperwork involved with shipping to another country / continent.

In her blog, she talks about "some important things to bring with you on a motorcycle trip that involves crossing borders."

So she's handling bureaucratic affairs and waiting for Alaska to arrive at their next beginning.

I just watched Noraly navigating Sani Pass. Those 3 BMW riders had it easy, though I had no idea how steep some of those switchbacks were until Noraly rode down. The pass's name is a misnomer. It should be Insani Pass.

Well, I'm rwong ... Noraly is not going to Australia.

Unfortunately, I was unable to copy her text from her Facebook post (probably somehow restricted), but I took a screenshot.

So, she's going somewhere where she's not fluent in their language :

Found two posts from yesterday on her Instagram and FB (neither of which I have accounts with, so can't read the full post, so if there are further details, I can't read it) :

--- quote from Noraly ---
I’ve finally got some good news - I am hitting the road again in one week from now So so so ready for new adventures

Okay, maybe someone can clue me in on this.

I checked on Noraly's 2-3 websites, since she mentioned "one week from now I will be on the next adventure" (paraphrasing).

She prefers to post on Mon-Wed-Fri, so might see something tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm at her FB page - see the screenshot... that post is from Jan 22, a week ago ... but notice it has "is in Alaska".

I'm not a FB type, so not sure that statement actually reflects where they REALLY are ????

(Sidenote: If she was really still in Alaska a week ago, Russia seems like an easy destination and matches her comment, "I want to go where I've never spoken the language" )

Okay, new post at Itchy's FB page, but I can't copy the text, so another screenshot below.

On the road, but it'll be 1-2 weeks until a new episode is published.

Weeellllll.
Isn't that interesting. I would have thought her email list would include that announcement, but last email I got from her was Jan 1.
But that's what I get for thinking.
Reminds me what I've heard said, "You're not paid to think!"
But actually, I AM paid to think.
Wonder if that's why I don't make more money...

Would think Russia is pretty damn cold to ride right now.
:confused1:
Russia is pretty much off the table for anyone from a NATO country. I have been trying since 2020. First Covid and now the sanctions imposed on Russia makes travelling there virtually impossible for "tourists".

Probably correct.

However, I don't think anyone considers Noraly a tourist ... all it takes is an hour or two of dedicated research to conclude she's more of a "celebrity" , or better yet, a "cultural evangelist".

Exceptions are sometimes made for folks like her.

Anyway, yea, it's a longshot at this point where she is. And @scootac may have a point on it being too cold, though I have zero knowledge about Russia's weather now. Maybe I need to fire up wunderground.com and check :)

My guess would be China or southeast Asia. She has visited India, and Indonesia is a bit small for a whole season. Maybe we should have a poll, voting where we think she is going?

Yea ... I did check the weather and see Russia is a bit chilly, but as you mention, I see South Asia is in the 50-80°F range, so makes more sense!

Dear Noraly has far more sense than to put herself in a bad political situation, or somewhere with unreliable weather. ....And, why ship her bike to the Netherlands if she is going to ship out again to start from elsewhere in the world? My guess remains - that she will cross France and Spain and ferry to Morocco where she will keep to the West coast and head down to Senegal the original destination of the Paris-Dakar Rally

Her preference has recently been to hotel, or at least get a cot and roof over her head, so how she has arranged that, goodness knows.....
...Does anyone agree?

Several ladies have proven trans-national motorcycle riding, even solo, does not require sacrifice of life over the years.
As in Roger's example, and in Noraly's case, it can be much easier with a simpler machine. Just imagine riding a Ducati Multistrada, or a KTM 1290 Adventure, or even the newer electronics-infested BMW 1250 GSs. Very complex, indeed, and backyard welders and child mechanics won't be able to shade-tree-engineer a replacement for the multiple computers that make these things run.
Yeah, I'm a skeptic, but having worked in IT for a handful of decades now, I have some experience with tech breakdowns.
Sure, some will run these larger dualsports across multiple continents, but some will be shut down due to irreplaceable / unobtanium electronics that cannot be field-repaired far from a dealer network, and as we've seen recently with Noraly, international shipping will involve significant timeframes, to disrupt a carefully planned excursion.
Yet still, in the end of it all, this is what constitutes "adventure."
And adventure isn't always fun in the moment, but often more fully realized and appreciated when one is safely home or returned to what we call civilization.
In the famous Molly Hatchett number Flirtin' With Disaster, ..."it ain't for everybody!"
