Itchy Boots

Wit a bike as meticulously prepped as hers, I'm surprised that the tower was so loose from the beginning of the race.

Stainless steel butchers gloves for the cactus needles?

I must admit I shed a tear today, looking at an exhausted young lady in pain! She got bruised up rather badly. Having to be lifted onto her bike so she could continue the last 60 odd kilometres. :(

That was a proper bruise on her leg - but being so tired and hardly able to speak for a minute, yet able to summon a smile and recollect all the falls... She's one hell of a woman....

The bruise (ecchymosis) is evidence of internal bleading after seriously tearing a muscle. All credit to her that she was able to ride the 30 miles back to the campsite. Noarly will be hurting finishing the final two days.

Continuing to review all the riding tips / GS1250 videos I can find, I came across a throwback to last season's (or just before) Itchy Boots ride through South Africa, including her trek up Sani Pass. It was sketchy and treacherous when she went, but today I found a foursome of guys on the big adventure bikes; 3 on GSs and one on the KTM 1290 (possibly 1190?)
Still lots of loose rock, but this video had some good views on how steep it is getting to the top. One of the GS riders made it on street tires.
We now return you to the Baja Rally and our intrepid and injured heroine, Ms. Noraly Schoenmaker.

Looks like more of the US is not on her next agenda, as she said fuel may be hard to come by where she is headed.

Are we laying bets an where Alaska will land up? She says a continent. I say, not in the Northern hemisphere. I don't think Africa or the Americas. New Zealand/Australia/Tasmania/Indonesia/Papua New Guinea - perhaps a little North of the Equator - even India again? Where the weather isn't too extreme.....

Haven't watched today's video yet, but if she said "continent", then India specifically is out ... though, she *might* go back to Asia , 'cause she hasn't been to a number of countries there.

My wild guess is Australia... just checked temps across it ... average is 20°c / 68°f. Plus it's large enough for extended travel and there's varied cultures and scenery there.

I’m sticking with a guess I made a few posts back. I think she will go back to Africa. She’s added that camel tank for dealing with distance and questionable fuel.

Something to consider:
• Alaska is being transported to the next continent via ship.

• Noraly said it's gonna take a while to arrive at that destination.

• If Alaska is leaving on a ship from Alaska (shipping company is in Alaska) to Africa, that means going around S. America ... but more likely passing through the Panama Canal ... still a long trip.

• It's possible they could transport Alaska via truck to Florida/East Coast, then loaded on a ship to Africa.

The other option is Alaska could board a ship that leaves Alaska, using an almost direct shot to Aussie land :)

I guess we shall see. Due to Noraly's long delay in delivering videos, I wonder if she's already at the next continent (?).

I would think it would go via the Suez Canal

The Suez Canal ?????

You DO realize it connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea, then onto the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean ??

The Panama Canal connects the Pacific Ocean with the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean ... it's midway between North and South America

Yes I do. Just all depends where in Africa you start from. No doubt she will tell us. That’s if Africa is the continent she picks.

As straight as possible, I guess......there must be many many intermediate stops along the way (Asia, Singapore, who knows), for such a cargo as odd as a cycle from Alaska.
