Itchy Boots

She sure could John, and she would be covering the same ground.
I'm just saying that when someone who is a biker writes, or says, that they are riding from California to Alaska, my expectation from their choice of words is that they are actually riding from California to Alaska.

Kind of like when someone from here says that they have been to California on their motorcycle, then you find out that they trailerd it to Phoenix and back. That is not the same thing to me. One is riding to California, the other is riding in California.

No matter John, all sorted now.

She is already in and out of Alaska.

On what basis do you have this opinion?

Given that a "long day's ride" for Noraly is 300-400km and that we know where she was in Mexico on Palm Sunday, IMHO I doubt that she has already left Alaska.

I'm curious, where in Alaska is she going? What is the terminus of her journey?

In my thinking, Juneau is much closer than Anchorage or Fairbanks. Does this count? Technically so, and also it keeps the "window" open longer for ride-able weather.

Also, from Tijuana to Juneau it is approximately 4,000 km. At 200 km/day it is 20 days worth of travel. however that is an average and I have no idea if it is high (better roads) or low (more sight seeing, longer route). plus that is every day with no breaks which seems unlikely. In the series she has stopped for maintenance and sight seeing.

However, 20 days or approximately 3 weeks does fall within her ride/film window. So she could be in Alaska now.

Oh since I'm not sure where she is hitting the Baja Peninsula, I calculated the distance from Cab San Lucas to Tijuana, which is 400 km or approximately 2 extra days.

Hope I haven't missed anything. :)

LOL, well if I use a different mapping software, the distance from Cabo San Lucas to Juneau is 6500 km, so divided by 200 km/day is 32.5 days. Or 4.5 weeks. Still within the window for being in AK right now.

... Or at least very damn close. :) :)

I would agree. From "tip to tip" right? Didn't she start in Patagonia a few seasons ago?
Yes she did.
I always thought heading to Alaska the end of June early July would be the prime time. Earlier than that would be a challenge weather wise.
In the meantime I will follow along on the video instalments. ;)

Pretty sure Juneau is not accessible by vehicle. Only by boats or planes.
She could go to Hyder.....that's the closest point in AK.
But .....it's hardly Alaska.

Look at a map! How do your ride to Juneau from Canada? There are no roads into Juneau!

The most southerly point of Alaska accesible by road is Hyder.

Yes, I agree.

John [stopped at the Arctic Circle on the Dempster, 17 Aug, 2001… below freezing, snow to the north]

July 25th 2017 on the Dalton. Still want to ride the Dempster now that it is open all the way to Tuktoyaktuk where I worked in the early '80s.

Anyone else having a growing Iron Butt Rally feel to this thread now?
All the speculation and guessing is like watching the chatter around the bi-annual long distance event.
I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's a pleasant occupation between online reports.
Keep it up!

I watched one video ... too much drama
EXACTLY my first thought about 10 min in and it only got worse. I did finish the vid but consider myself warned off. Granted that the border crossing was arduous but she talks too damn much. I'd like to see Noraly tell her "I'll give ya something to cry about" but she's a better person than that. And me. :D
