Itchy Boots

I like that she's gone "old school" for simplicity and reliability. She has to make allowances for her leg inseam, so the KLR and XR650 are off the table. Seems like she made an excellent, well-informed, and fully customized choice here.

I keep checking for the next video...
she knows how to keep us in suspense!

I like her old school choice too, but as Franken-bike as they are making it out to be, it might be confusing finding the right parts along the way.

I think it’s great going old school because she can find parts in old parts bins. The problem is that it’s a custom so she better know exactly what parts are compatible. Also points and distributors would not be my choice from a reliability standpoint. They get cacked up with muck and carbon!

It seems to me that Moritz has built a bike for something like the Baja 1000 or Dakar race where the rider has support in the form of a pit crew with spare parts. Noraly is going to ride her bike around the world, and there might not be old parts & pieces for her along the way. I liked the alternative ignition system, and that she can bypass the bike electrics, but I can think of several scenarios where she will need parts. Who knows, maybe she has Moritz on standby to ship her whatever she needs.

This came up in my feed last week, the episode was actually from 6 months ago. He was told to bring numerous spare parts for his adventure….
Maybe she does have Moritz on speed dial for parts.

Interesting guy. I'd bet he could make it around the world because of his mechanical knowledge. He can probably fix anything on his bike with a paper clip.

I was following her for some time, but that riding thru Africa was getting old after a while. Plus, it looks like she's not telling the whole story, but mostly just a good stuff if you know what I mean.
Kudos though for making it on YouTube as full-time job. Would like to see her book if it'll ever comes out in English. Maybe more in there...

There’s a bit more in the book, with regards to her early personal life, her previous jobs and relationship with her partner.
I’m a quarter the way through it…I just need to knuckle down and set some quality time in reading the book.

She said the English translation has been moved up now, there's a fb video on it.
I wanna say early summer now?
And tomorrow she'll be posting videos 2x a week again, post her email.

I think this build is akin to building an International Six Days Enduro bike where redundancy, simplicity and longevity are the name of the game. I too worry a bit about the parts availability but it could be minimized by careful documentation uploaded to her phone.

I recall some pretty ingenious clutch teardown and repair done on the dirt compound of an African village last season, for her modern Honda.

Made me shudder, watching it. But it was broke, and they fixed it.

Also improvised an airbox fix in the middle of nowhere, after she knocked a hole in it.

We'll just have to watch and see what happens... and we still don't know where she'll be riding this season, do we?

I think she has done some of the 'stans already. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan for sure. I remember the episode at the high border between those 2 countries where it was cold, rainy, muddy, and dark. The border people brought her inside and let her warm up but then she carried on through some pretty sketchy conditions. I have ridden over that pass/border crossing. It would not have been fun in those conditions. She may have to redo some of them in order to get to the Far East.

The journey has started. She left Istanbul and her bike is called Frankie (as in Frankenstein). She mentioned that she will go to countries in Asia that she hasn’t been before.
