Donald Masters - R.I.P.

We were all devastated by the news today. We had known Donald for over 30 years and we will feel a tremendous void in our lives. Many thanks to all of the searchers who spent so much time helping, you were wonderful and many of you had never even met Donald! Also, thank you so much for all of the support from members of this forum who helped keep everyone going through the internet with your thoughts, offers, and donations. Our hearts and prayers go out to Donald's family and the many friends he had, both personally and through the internet. Gail and Stu

It is my suggestion as many bikes/riders as possible escort Donald home to his final resting place. He would like that.

And perhaps oneday, we have a Memorial Ride from Orinfo to Denver via Yellowstone in his honor, and complete his ride for him.
+1.... :pray1:

RIP Donald.

Donald's tragedy has shown that there is hope in this world, that so many strangers would reach out and help someone in need.

I salute all the strangers that helped search,:bow1:
Am sorry to hear of the outcome
but glad he has finally been found and his family has some answers....

My heartfelt condolences to Donald's family and friends.

My thanks and admiration to everyone who joined in the search.

Donald will live on in our memories for a long, long time. He will represent the good in people and the brotherhood of riders everywhere.

I'm saddened to hear the outcome, but grateful that the family will have closure. I'll keep Donald, his family, searchers and others directly and indirectly impacted in my thoughts. I'm encouraged by the gestures of goodwill and kindness shown at this time. It restores my faith in human nature. My deepest condolences.

So sorry...

I am heartbroken as I think about little Emma and the enjoyment Donald will miss there

I will give my little grandaughter an extra hug thinking of the heartbreak of these people in our family of friends

I followed this thread from day one, and even though there wasn't any way I could actively participate, I lived and breathed it until the end. I'm saddened by the final outcome, and at the same time closure has arrived to an unfortunate event. I wish the best to all who helped find Donald, and my heart pours tears to the family that lost a good man. RIP Donald.

Donald's step-son, Justin, and I were searching together these past two day and have become great friends. I am so honored to have met such a wonderful person along with Donald's son, Noah.

We'd been searching some very back road areas due to some information we'd gotten on Saturday and when we finished that we went up to Darby with plans to run down 93 at the same time of day to see if we noticed anything due to the time of day. Since we'd come across 43 to get to Darby, we'd decided we'd try the 93 route to Salmon.

Coming into Darby was the first time all day that we'd had cell service and we checked in, around 5pm, to let Larry know what we were doing. That's when we got the news that Donald's crash had been found on Hwy 93, north of Salmon.

It was an extremely tough decision between heading straight back to Dillon or going down to mm322.1. We went down 93 and it was the right thing to do. The road down across the border is absolutely gorgeous with some tricky corners but they're well marked with warning signage and guard rails.

Just above North Fork, the road straightens out a bit and the corners switch from technical twisties to nice sweepers which continue coming out of North Fork. About four miles south of North Fork, there's a nice straight away coming into a left hand turn. It doesn't look too bad on satellite view but it's actually a deceptively tricky, decreasing radius, double apex turn that's much too easy to take much too much speed into (even at the speed limit) because it looks like an easy sweeper on the approach. About 2/3rd's the way through there's about 3 feet where it opens up and then shuts down so there's not much reaction time to adjust either one's line or speed mid-corner. It's no wonder he missed it. Anyone could have and, I've no doubt, many have in the past.

It's also no wonder that searchers missed seeing anything as they searched the road because there's a well-used gravel pull-out with lots of tire tracks and a double embankment - an immediate ditch and then a rise with tons of over-growth and reeds hiding a second ditch with another rise with tons of over-growth and reeds before the river. Even knowing where to look, the vegetation looked undisturbed.

While I am very dis-heartened that this story has ended in this way, I can report that it is a truly beautiful place on a truly beautiful road and I know that Donald will ride with all of the folks on all of the forums that have been involved in this amazing effort.

It is very peaceful there.....

I have indeed witnessed some of the best of humanity by the thoughts and actions of those who unselfishly offered their time, effort, money and prayers in this truly amazing search for a Fellow Rider.

May God's Grace give comfort and strength to Donald's Family during this time of loss--and beyond. His Family will be in our prayers...!!!

RIP, Donald... You will be missed.... My Thoughts and Prayers to those left behind... :pray1:

I am so fortunate to be a member of such a wonderful brotherhood... I can't even imagine not being a part of this group... I just wish I could have helped...

Sad to hear the outcome although as the days wore on I became worried it would end this way. His family can now say a proper farewell.

Donald, although we never met ,you and your family are in Jan and I's prayers.

May you ride as free and often as you want to and may you ride roads we can only dream about.

Thanks to all who searched so hard for Donald, this truly is family.

Larry and Jan.

The tireless effort that those of you put into this search for a fellow motorcyclist and friend to many is to be commended. I've been following this thread many times a day for the past several days. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out like we had all hoped they would. Your efforts will never be forgotten. To Donald's family and friends I offer my condolences and prayers. To Donald, a sincere thanks for your service to our country that has enabled us to enjoy our motorcycle riding. Rest in peace.

My condolences to Caroline, Noah, Justin, Ashley, John and Ella and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and Donald's friends as well. :pray1:

I have been watching this and the other associated threads and am saddened to hear of the loss of a fellow rider.

It is good in a sense that his family can bring closure to this sad situation.

Although I am many miles away, was not involved and didn't know Donald or those searching, I would like to thank all those who put themselves out in an effort to locate him, you are all true knights of the road and deserve a reward for your compassion and all your hard work.
I would hope that others would do the same for me if the situation arose.

I am sure that all fellow ST riders in the UK would join with me in offering our condolences to Donald's family and friends for their sad loss.

Can't add any more. Les said it all.:(

Ride/Rest in Peace,Sir
