Donald Masters - R.I.P.

Donald,

I never knew of you until you were brought to light through the community of the forum.

May the winds of time carry you safely along your new path, your new adventure is just starting, just a little too early for some.
May you ride forever with the angels as your guide, and your families heart at your soul.

From across the pond I would like to say a huge thankyou to all who took part, both physically and in spirit in the search for a brother rider.

May Donalds family take some comfort from the knowledge that people worldwide were hoping, and still praying for Donald - May god bless each and everyone of you.

Ride on Donald...ride on.....!

I am really sad to read this, and missing the right words.
Donald: "have a good last Trip". Across the great pound I?ll think on you.
Caroline, your Family is a save Haven, they will support you and dry your tears .

Joe....I have already contacted an ST member who lives close to the site to see if a memorial marker can be made . I want to pay for it, and am waiting for a reply. If anyone involved on the board is close enough and would help this effort please let me know. I have always wanted to show how much Kent's memorial means to me. Creating one for Caroline woud be an honor for me.....hope someone can help.

At this point, it is a family affair, they have let me know there will be a private memorial and also a public one where those that wish to can attend.

I do believe a marker at the actual location would be a nice memorial, kinda like what was done for KentS.

Caroline, Noah, Justin, Ashley, John, Ella, Lynne, David, Kelsey, and Erica and all other family and friends the world is a better place because of Donald.

Some of us never knew him in person but he has changed us all in ways even beyond words... This poem (as adapted) spoke to me:

Donald:

In the rising of the Sun
And its going down we remember you.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter we remember you.

In the opening of buds and the rebirth of the spring we remember you.

In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer we remember you.

In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn we remember you.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends we remember you.

When we are weary and in need of strength we remember you.

When we are lost and sick at heart we remember you.

When we have joys we yearn to share we remember you.

When the winds blow past us on our bike rides we shall remember you.

So long as we all live you too shall live for you are now apart of all of us you touched as we remember you.

The Gates of Prayer

Ride on Brother and thanks for the gift you shared...

I've been on the road and had this opportunity to check in on the status of Donald, and so sorry to hear the outcome, but now the family can have closure after a very grueling search. For me, it was a heart-felt experience to feel the caring and love that all involved, in whatever way, did show to the family, who in turn, has expressed repeatedly their gratefulness to this forum and others. It saddens me to know that I rode by Donald several times.

Carla and I pray for Donald and his family, that they may find God's peace in this episode of their lives, and we thank God for the caring attitudes of all involved.

Whereas we all as riders need not be fearful of the challenge of a good ride, perhaps this is a reminder to us that we always need to respect the potential danger that lurks around every corner and even the straight-a-ways. I know it has for me.

God Bless you all,

Nick

Very sorry to hear the outcome of this, my prayers are with Donald's family and friends. And those of you who helped in any shape or form, I truely believe that you have a newfound guardian angel watching out for you. Your support and work was so appreciated and you went beyond the call. THANK YOU.

I am so, so sorry to hear the news. My condolences to Donald's family and friends. I can't think of any words to express how I'm feeling.

Just so sorry...

Carole...

I was thinking of doing something like we did for Doug Dunwoody... it is rustic and suits the surroundings. Let me know if I can help or if I can do it myself. As for cost... don't worry about that... rustic works in such a beautiful spot.

I thought I'd make it a Geo Cache find as well as it is off the road out of sight.... many cyclists participate in that hobby as well.

So sad... despite all the hope and prayers, and positive thoughts, not the outcome that we wanted.

To Carolyn, Noah, Justin, Ashley, John, and Ella
Our hearts go out to you, may you find healing and peace in the times ahead.

Just can't say anymore....:(

If there's any thing any of us can do for you.....

This is an open letter to Donald Masters, current address unknown, but believed to be resting in a better place and watching over those of us left behind.

Donald, I never knew you or even heard of you before September 7, 2009 when I saw the first post about you being a ?missing rider?. Since that time, I have watched the impact that you have had on so many people?s lives throughout the world with awe and amazement.

On September 8th, BamaRider (Guy in Alabama) and Fred_D (in Oklahoma) started raising the alarm to a higher level with statements like ?If y'all let me go missin for 6 days and don't come lookin for me I'm gonna be pissed? and trying to determine your most likely route to help others with the search. Joe (in Texas) created the Search for Donald Masters page on this web site on September 10 and the motorcycling community began to respond in earnest. Larry in New York became the overall coordinator for the search and tracked the movements and efforts of your family, friends and complete strangers who came looking for you.

Just on the ST-Owners website, there were over 145,000 views of the 2 threads directly relating to your search and 792 posts from old and new members. People who couldn?t provide direct support offered prayers, suggestions, coordination and financial assistance. Since yesterday?s news confirming your passing, 14 pages of comments have been posted to your memorial thread on this site alone.

Your situation has had a major impact on the motorcycling community throughout the world. I cannot speak to your accomplishments in life, but you have touched us in the following ways since you disappeared:

  • You?ve made us aware of the importance of checking in and letting people know your ride plans ? especially if you are riding alone. I suspect that sales of the Spot Messenger will see a direct increase in the near future.
  • You have renewed our faith in the goodness of others. The willingness of people from throughout the world to come together to assist in the search for someone who they only knew as a fellow motorcyclist has been overwhelming. Many individuals travelled long distances and/or devoted a lot of time and effort trying to find you.
  • You have helped us to feel that we belong to a bigger community of nice people. Deb and I met both new and long time members of this board that we would be happy to welcome into our home as friends. We also met your sons Noah and Justin under difficult circumstances and we were impressed with their character and behavior.
  • You?ve reminded us how important it is to tell those we love every day how much they mean to us because we never know when it might be our last chance to tell them. Life is fleeting and we never know when our time will be up.

I?m certain that your entire family (Caroline, Noah, Justin, Ashley, John, Ella, Lynne, David, Kelsey, and Erica) will miss you incredibly and wish you were still among us. I can?t say anything to them to change this, but I believe your passing has had a very positive impact on the world and that you have changed many lives for the better.

I, like many others on this board, take some comfort from the fact that you were riding a great road and doing something you enjoyed when you left us. I personally hope that I will be able to leave this world doing an activity that brings a smile to my face.

Thank you, Donald, for having a positive impact on me ? even through this tragic event.

Rest in Peace.

I have communicated with BINIDAHO, and Barbara tells me Idaho frowns on crosses and their DOT removes them because they feel they are distractions to those driving.

I don't know what was done for Doug Dunwoody. A cross with a plaque was created as a marker for KentS on Push Mountain in Arkansas. Motomac and I have visited it, planting flowers and clearing the site yearly since his passing. No one has touched it, except to add tributes. Mac was there last month. It seems this would not work in Idaho.

Terry (Austin City Limits) created a marker site for Putt at Moki Dugway...hiding it like a geocache. It has been visited by ST owners and comments/messages have been added. Mac and I added a "journal" in a metal box for visitors, Another ST owner added paper in a waterproof tube.

Do you think the Idaho DOT would remove your rustic marker??? I am not the creative type, and would love to see someone with talent and ability take this on.

I appreciate whatever you do...let me know your thinking.

Very nice Al... Very nice.

Donald, your legacy will go on. Albeit under the worst possible circumstances, you have brought the biking brother/sisterhood closer together, and proved that we are not the greasy haired undesirables many perceive us to be.

The love and care shown by your fellow bikers, many of whom didn't know you, will live on in your memory, and be a continued reminder to us all when embarking on exciting adventures as you did.

Keep on riding up there brother.... we know you will be watching over us all, and we'll join you on the other side...

God speed.

Bob

Very well said...

Like so many others here, I anxiously checked the thread, hoping for good news, praying daily for a positive outcome and for the welfare of those searching. And like so many others, it is with a heavy heart, that I pray for Donald and his family, that they find peace and strength in this time, for the safe return for all those that participated in the search, and for the strength and brotherhood of this community. God Bless

Triker,

I will check w/DOT tomorrow. Just noticed a white cross w/marker right down the boulevard from me....been there for quite awhile. Also, more when I traveled from Reno last week.

Don't give up the thought. Think it would be a nice tribute to Donald and a reminder for others that travel that road.

Great effort by everyone, sorry it turned out the way it did. I'm sure he would have been thrilled to know how many people committed time and effort.

RIP Donald
