Where did you ride today?

Continuing my travels to my son's house after a few days off to mow the lawn and other work at home. Was time to fill the tank after 184 miles. It ended up that I had almost a gallon left when the last bar showed solid but the little gas pump symbol was flashing. That's what I've learned about this bike. When the last bar starts flashing then there is half that, or near a half gallon, left. I had reset one of the trip meters before I went out today and just before I arrived back home the mpg showing on the LCD panel indicated 61.3 mpg. That panel indicator is always off but I was inclined to believe it this time. With the temp starting out about 84F on the way there and 91F on the way home I knew the mpg would be better than usual. This engine does so much better in hot weather... just like the CTX1300/ST1300 engine. I put 2.97 gallons in the tank so I really did have almost a gallon left. It's a 3.9 gallon tank. I calculated that the mpg for the entire 184 miles since last fill up worked out to 61.9 mpg. So the computer was right on but only for this trip. I remember seeing that before I reset the trip meter it was showing just over 57 mpg for the last 278 miles before today, so today was likely closer to 63 mpg just for this trip. There are 2 average mpg displays on this bike, one for each trip meter (unlike some other bikes which only have one mpg display).

Oh, today I rode 48 miles round trip for a total of 326 miles since I started the basement finish project.

First long ride on new-to-me 07 13A. Mostly right angle corners, but this was the clearest weather I could find for a day ride.

Total map nerd so I print detailed version of above with minor road annotations, laminated it, then used a clear folder with magnets to hold the folder to the tank. Loathe to put a tank bag on something with this much storage so suggestions welcome. I don’t like small screens (GPS) for riding, until 8.5x11 flex screens are available! My old tank bag (magnetic) had the mag base with map case (as well as the map case on the top section), but it went with the Blackbird.

Loved the ride, power is plentiful; gear changes optional. Prolly used every one of the windshield heights over the course of the day. 425km on 22.5 l of fuel - 44.2 mpUSg for those in Myanmar & Liberia. Butt/back soreness much less than I’m accustomed to (last 5 bikes have been 1000cc+ sport tourers), and ‘recovery’ time as short as a fuel stop. Hopped off the bike and walked 9-holes of golf!!
Cheers! John

The Silver Slipper Casino, Waveland Mi ss i ss i pp i. That's where I rode to today. Just out and about riding before we get the forecast hurricane created sheets of rain here.

Did the normal ride around the lake about 15 miles north of my house. It takes me about an hour and it is roughly 50 miles.

200 or so miles from Vesailles, to Somerset and lunch at Lees Ford Marina on Lake Cumberland. Back through Crab Orchard and Lancaster.

About 100 miles. From Mooresville IN to Bloomington IN to Nashville IN, stopped for lunch at Big Woods Brewing in Nashville and then headed home. Nice to be out on the bike.

Nothing today, but a good 800 mile ride yesterday from PA to GA. I took some extra time to ride about 150 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and that was amazing. Most of the rest was in rain and that was still pretty good.

My wife’s out of town visiting our daughter and working on her wedding plans, so I rode about 60 miles for a burger. Didn’t plan it that way, just didn’t want to go home so soon after the burger!

Did an afternoon local ride. Started out with no particular place in mind. Ended up riding out El Monte Road in Lakeside to the El Capitan Reservoir. The El Cap dam is of hydraulic fill, completed in 1934. The reservoir and dam are owned by the city of San Diego. I last rode out here about eight or nine years ago. I forgot how scenic it is. The lake just reopened this weekend for fishing and boating. The access road to the dam and lake parallels the San Diego River which flows past the foot of El Cajon Mountain (a.k.a. El Capitan). Quite a sight up close.

Changed out my battery, checked all fluids, polished the windshield then took her out for a short 565 mile, 13 hour spin yesterday.
Up the 101, 154, 101, Hare canyon rd, peach tree rd, 25, Coalinga Rd, 198, 101. Through the middle back roads in the central coast range.
Lots of twisty empty roads. My brother on his Ultra and me on my STeed. We took our time to enjoy the scenery and stopped several times to test out my brothers new drone....

After working on the '04 Friday & Saturday, rebuilding the forks and starting on the brakes, I decided I needed to go for a nice ride today.

I took off and headed for SR79 south, and stopped at Santa Ysabel, thinking I needed a piece of pie. But since they were only selling whole pies (and I didn't think there would be too much of it left, after flopping around in my topcase) I settled for a cinnamon roll.
After talking to a guy that rolled up on a beautifully restored 1971 CB750, I found out he is a DI for the Marine Corp :usflag1:, I even managed to get a picture of it.

He left, and I was still eating, I started talking to another guy that rolled up on a Aprilia. No picture. After about 45 more minutes we both took off in opposite directions. I continued on SR79, through Julian and followed it down to I8, where I headed west, towards San Diego. I had never been on that part of SR79 before. once I got around most traffic, it was a fun road.

Once I hit I8, going west, I turned north on to I15, which took me back home.

I did 192 miles on that little ride, in about 3 hours riding time.
