Where did you ride today?

Rode to the Iowa State Fair today, last day of the fair. They always have a "Avenue of Motorcycles" on the last day and have judging for different categories of bikes. Mostly cruisers and customs but this time included reverse trikes. There were 2 of those, a black Slingshot with some customizing done to improve performance and a Vanderhall Venice trike. That Vanderhall was my favorite but the first time I've seen one of those. Lots of VERY customized custom cruisers there. At least 5 of them had hydraulics to lower the entire frame close to the ground to sit on 2 inch tall center stands and one of those looked like it was just sitting on the frame on the ground. No side stands at all on those. Obviously all the customs are NOT daily riders nor even ridden very often other than to shows like this as I wouldn't want to ride normal roads with them at the risk of significant damage. I was too busy just enjoying the fair food and other activities at the fair and looking at the bike to take many photos, but I did get a few. This fair is famous for our butter cow and a few extra characters made of butter so had to get a photo of those. Every rider gets to park their bikes right in the middle Grand Concourse of the fair so prime parking in a roped off area that the public is not allowed to enter. Fielded lots of questions about my Burgman 650 with those not so interested in Harley's or custom V-Twins. There was one older Gold Wing there (first time so few Honda's represented since I remember there usually being at least a dozen GW and other Honda bikes presented). For some reason a Harley that was not a Sportster won sport bike category even though my Burgman was far more "sport bike" than that one. (in a face off I could have blown the wheels off of it easily).

Was a 38+ mile ride there and back. Spent about 6 hours there. Started out wondering if the rain that just left the area would return and then the Sun came out and it got rather steamy.

That old truck actually drove itself onto the fairgrounds pulling a Harley on a front wheel hitch behind it. Truck worked... barely... but not sure the Harley.

This was actually last week....
Rode from home, west of Chicago, to Ferryville, Wisc to "home base" at my favorite motel : https://www.grandview-motel.com/

It's in SW Wisc, overlooking the Mississippi (the "Driftless" area) with fantastic roads everywhere.

676 miles over 3 days, and my posterior was comfortable the whole time, thanks to my Russell seat and LD comfort shorts - they work!

The bike got just a hair under 50mpg, going up and back (232 miles each way). This was GPS mileage, not the ST's calculation, so it's real. Very pleased with that .
I'm thanking the MCCruise for this- and it made the trip SO much more pleasant too - HIGHLY recommended, and worth every dollar spent......

Not very far. Lunch at the Chinese buffet. About 10 mile round trip. 94 Degrees with a heat advisory still could not keep me off my beloved ST1100! What a motorcycle.

Mt. Diablo.jpg

Sunday my 'Wing buddy and I took a short 110mi ride to Mt. Diablo and surrounding area. The Mt. was apparently a draw for some extremely damaged individuals. There were a lot of people doing something called a super marathon on the Diablo Trail(s). People were doing anywhere from 1/2, 1, 2x marathons. :eek1: Not gonna happen!

Came down through Clayton and on the way home we saw a Blue Angle's F-18 doing some ACM so we decided to watch. As you might guess we were watching R/C models tearing up the sky. We spent 45m with a club learning a whole bunch more about R/C. Not once did they tell me something I already knew. A whole bunch of replica planes but one guy left his A-10 at home. :( Great bunch of guys though. But R/C modeling is a pricey rabbit whole I want to avoid. Great weather and fun ride and hope to visit the R/C club again.

Sounds like a great ride! :hat3:

The last time I was up at Mt. Diablo was 1993, when I drove a rented 93 T-Bird up it.

The last time before that was probably around 1959-60...

Nice pics. Typical California summer day, clear skies and dry grass. Glad you enjoyed the ride. What were the temps like in the valley?

It was yesterday, Bank Holiday Monday on Dere Street near Edinburgh.
Lovely sunny and calm day which happens rarely at Soutra Aisle, which I believe is the highest arable land in Scotland at about 1200 ft above sea level. Soutra Aisle was a once famous hospital founded in the 12th century but most of the structure was robbed and only a family mausoleum remains.
Dere Street was a Roman road that connected York to the Antonine Wall.
This is looking NW towards the Southern Uplands (probably).

Took a weekend trip up here in PNW...kind of an extended version of the Cascade Loop - the hwy 3 section in Canada is really nice!

Near Hope where Rambo: First Blood was filmed. You can almost see Stallone hanging onto these cliffs:

Had the plaster cast removed from my busted ankle Tuesday, so spent Wednesday checking the bike over and started her up. hopped on, put her in gear and back to neutral to make sure I could change gear without too much trouble. Yesterday I took her for a ride locally just to get into the swing of things after my enforced 6 weeks lay-off! all well so back to work on Monday and try to get some flexibility back into my ankle with the exercises I have been given. Got some nice bits of meccano in it!
