Where did you ride today?

Rode over Sonora Pass for the first time this year. They opened the pass the same day we left for England, May 31st.

Also stopped at Leavitt Falls which was flowing more than I have ever seen it.

Had lunch at Walker Burger, great day to ride!

192 miles round trip.

Yesterday, I rode from John Heath's (@jfheath) home in Yorkshire, England south to Roger Heap's (@Roger.) home in Colchester, near the south-east corner of England. It was great to meet John in person for the first time, and also great to once again see Roger, who I first met way back in 2002 at a Pan-Gathering in Suhl, East Germany.

Later on last night, I took the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland. It is a huge ferry. There were about 35 motorcycles on board, and the purser told me that the ship was not even half-full. This particular ship, operated by Stena Lines, is a great way to get from England to Netherlands. It leaves at 11 PM, arrives at 8 AM, and you get a very nice cabin with a bed & shower enclosure to sleep and clean up in on the way over.

Inside the Stena Ferry (there are 5 vehicle decks!)

This ferry is so clean you could eat off the floor. Note that they have installed a steel cable down the middle of the "reserved for motorcycles" lane to make it very easy to attach the ratchet-strap tie-downs (provided by Stena) to either side of the motorcycle. Very thoughtful.

very cool!

Work, I rode to work. Then I rode down I-75 to a hydraulic supply house in hope that they could figure out what this darn fitting is, which they couldn't. I then took the long way back to work since a semi truck turned a few cars on northbound I-75 into an accordion which closed down the road. I plan to ride home shortly, and then back in tomorrow.

These commuter miles are really starting to add up!

So after posting that I noticed there was that odometer thing on the left and decided to update it. And now that I have, it looks like I need to step up my mileage game a bit!

All miles are good miles in my book. Some years are better than others for sure. I'm running low this year, decided to fish the month of June this year.

Rode from Bridgeport, CA home to Livermore over highway 108, the Sonora Pass. My favorite ride and one we call "going to church". Unfortunately last year's forest fires were much in evidence, especially at Dardenelle, where the entire complex is gone. Good luck to the owners, who are planning to rebuild.

Nice day for a ride today, stopped off to stretch our legs at Cragside on the way back, near Rothbury, Northumberland. We also visited the highest market town in England, Alston, Cumbria. Cragside was the first property in the world to have a hydro electric electricity system, or so they say.

I took the Interstate to no where to get some pastry in Amarillo, but the joint was closed. With those two bends in the road around Plainview, a person has to really stay alert. sarc off

Don't you know the best pastry in all of West West Texas is Jo Beth's Sugar Shack in Clovis. And the curves on 84 are much "smoother".

Or the Honeycomb Pie Shop in Levelland. Second best pie in Texas. Probably first since the other lady quit baking.

I live in Seattle and needed to work for a week in Spokane. I did I90 until Silica Road (just past Vantage) and then went through Quincy and Palisades, up Moses Coulee, spectacular, ( a few miles of gravel and dirt road included!) to Euphrata and into Spokane via back roads. Warm day and a little sweaty. A week later I headed south to Colfax then west on 26 back to Vantage, then back roads from Vantage to Cle Elum before getting on I90 and heading home. 26 out of Colfax and Thorp Highway between Ellensburg and Cle Elum were particularly great roads and deserted on a Monday. ST performed beautifully.

I spend the day riding around rural Luxembourg. The roads here are amazing, they have a surface like a billiard table, not a pothole or bump in the entire country.

Saw the sign below at the entrance to a particularly enticing twisty section of road - I got a smile from how the sign shows all the Tupperware breaking off the low side of the bike.

I just rode the 30 mile neighborhood loop. Not spectacular, but it was my second ride of the year. My first was at the end of April. After which I have spent the last two months growing new bones. So for that reason, I consider it SPECTACULAR!.

Glad you're back on two wheels.

Took the Burgman 650 out for a day ride today. Sunny and hot at 87 F just after 10:30 so figured I'd better get out before the temp went up too much. 95 F and steamy now. Just a quick run across the south side of the metro area and around some country and county roads south of the metro for 108 miles. Only scraped the center stand foot once. For those who don't know the burgman doesn't scrape pegs but the first thing to touch down is the center stand foot on one side or the other, and that's leaning over quite a lot actually. Traveled past John Wayne's birthplace museum in Winterset, IA on the way back. His birthplace home is just around the corner from the museum. Ended up getting 62.1 mpg on that tank, but already had 69 miles on it before I started. Fuel gauge indicated I still had at least another 60 miles to empty, which would have been just over 240 miles for the tank. Not bad for a 3.9 gal tank. Only put in 2.86 gal this time.

I've been using my phone for my GPS navigation device for a little while. No extra apps, just Google Maps. Since Google bought Waze some time ago they have been slowly adding functions from that app to regular Google Maps. Speed limits were added several updates ago. Just had another phone update yesterday and noticed this time a live speedometer was added right next to the speed limit icon. Speed limits don't always show since Google Maps doesn't always know what it is for every road, but the speedo does always show. And if I go faster than the indicated speed limit when that's displayed the speedo number turns orange/red. Now, if they would only make it automatic to continue navigation once a stop point is reached (without having to tell it to continue).
Screen clip of Google Maps navigation

The speed limit is on the left in the lower left corner of the map display and the speedometer is just to the right of that also in the lower left corner.

While I was at it I wanted to test using the video function of the phone camera while moving down the road. There was a lot of harmonic distortion due to the auto stabilization function of the camera and also from the camera trying to adjust to the different movements of the camera itself and the windscreen. The camera did just OK at first but then fogged up badly toward the end and was totally blurred out the second video I tried. At least that's what I was thinking at the time from what I could see on screen while it was happening. Later I looked at the videos and realized that since this is an auto focus camera, AND the bug spots on the shield became more visible near the end of the first video, the camera was focusing more and more on the bug spotted shield than on down the road. So far I haven't found a way to turn that off and lock the focus to be farther out. Here is the better of the videos. Since this was only a test, and you really cannot see much in the second video I deleted that one.

Let me know if there are any issues seeing these.

I only saw one video – rollin' down the slab. (It may be my old browser on this box). It looked like your cam started focusing on the water droplets at the end.
