Where did you ride today?

Little River Canyon is nice. Been years since I swam in it......not too many people on the road making for a great day. My new zumo 396 took me on roads I have not been, so I took it on roads it didn't like either....

I've been in Canada many times on the Mighty ST 1300 and my Goldwing, today was the first time on the GSA, added my flags once I got home240078240079240081240082240083

Did maintenance on Sunday and did ride on Monday. From Round Rock to Georgetown over to Taylor then to Elgin to Austin back to Round Rock. Mostly FM roads but a quick pull on 130 toll and I-35. Stopped at Harley dealer they had used Ducati for sale. Plopped my but in saddle and realized I am to old, to short, not near enough limber for that and went on my way.

I was going to check out Dora, New Mexico. When I got to Cochran county I realized it was going on holiday to Hockley county. I thought at first it was just a farmer running a sand fighter, but it was land in serious need of a sand fighter so I left the windward islands to their misery and went to Miss Ann's for lunch.

Today I took the backroads on what turned out to be a little white butterfly massacre. Yesterday, I washed he bike and got rid of the present left by the watchbird or Cactus eagle as Raymond calls them.
Life is never dull. Have you ever been going down the road and started getting a lot of wind in your face? No, I did not forget to put the chin bar down. One side of my shield came loose. Since Shoei got weird and made the shield come down when you raise the chin bar I have struggled getting the shield back on after a debugging. It is particularly difficult doing it beside the road. LOL!

Waited until traffic cleared up from Renton WA to Seattle and rode into work at 11:30AM

Rode the Burgman 650 to work today for the LAST time!

That's because effective the instant I left work today I am officially retired and don't plan (at this time) to go back to work for income again. WE'll see how long that lasts but for now I have plans... plans to only work around the house, or ride around the region on 2 wheels, or just doing what I feel like doing from now on. I will be sleeping in a bit later in the mornings (but then I was getting up real early for work). I'll have a little more time now to install farkles, and ride, and maybe install more farkles, and do more riding, and since it's still raining way more than it should I'll also be mowing the yard a bit more than I should. At least now I have a riding mower so I can be lazy about it.

Congratulations! You will love it.

Lowe's then the local deli/meat market to get stuff for the grill.

I had to laugh I walk into Lowe's and had two separate people comment on my Stich R3. An old lady said "You must be hot in that thing." "Nope, not as long as I keep moving." Then I was standing in line to check out and a guy came up and said he has to take a ride up to Duluth to get one of those ordered. I just laughed and said their turn around is about 2 weeks right now. Mine just arrived this week.

Beautiful day. Rode out to Montauk Point on east end of Long Island with 16 fellow riders. The Point was shrouded in fog, but the ride was great.

407 Mile day running from thunderstorms on Friday. Was planning to ride the 150 mile round trip to Flaming Gorge Reservoir and back to Vernal, but the thunderstorm that was building in behind over the Uinta mountains just didn't look fun, so I rode on to Rock Springs, WY. Tip toed past the point of doom where the brand new Metzeller Z6 died last year. Still black over the mountains south, so I hit 87 miles of I-80 east bound, through 22 miles of construction, dropped south just past Wamsutter towards Baggs (ten miles of gravel and sand construction), then to Craig, CO for gas before heading west on Hwy 40 towards home. Still got wet (but not thunderstorm wet) had to slow multiple times for deer, elk and antelope. Only bad part of the trip was having to clean up the bike afterwards.

Woke up this morning, got dressed and fired up Ruby Slippers. Headed West 102 miles, to Grundy County to move an Adventure Rider tag at Beersheba Springs, TN.

Then a couple of hours to the West, where I stopped in Waynesboro, TN for some lunch, which just happened to across the street from a Ural dealer, that was closed today. Couldn’t tell if they’re even open, at all.

240290

Then on further SW to Pickwick Dam for a picture next to one of the turbines used in the dam.

240291

Then, back home for a total of 408 miles in 8 3/4 hours. Beautiful weather, mostly in the 70’s, up til the last couple of hours when it creeped into the 80’s.

In case you’re wondering why I named the bike “Ruby Slippers”, last year, shortly after getting the bike, I clicked my heels together twice, and before I could say “Where’s Toto?”, I was in Kansas. Now you know the rest of the story.

Ride Safe
John
