Where did you ride today?

Only to my usual bike cafe, so no fancy scenery to speak of, but a couple of interesting bikes. It was a sunny day and there were quite a few bikes there.

There was a handsome ST1100 with mirror and fairing deflectors, clear turn signal lenses (unusual in the UK) and Laminar "Ears" on the upper fairing - I've never seen those before on any UK ST1100 except mine (Uncle Phil made me aware of them). Flip-clip handlebar mod, aftermarket exhausts and a comfy-looking seat.

Next to the ST was a close relative, a CX500 in decent original condition. Some brake pipe upgrades though, and better shocks than OEM (not difficult!). I had two CXs before "graduating" to the STs and loved them.

Another relative of the ST.... a 1978/79 GL1100 GoldWing. The original naked version of the 'Wing, in exceptional original condition. Belonged to an elderly gent who was out on it with his grandson. Nice old Triumph Bonneville parked next to it.

And my bike after arriving at home - a sort of cousin to the ST as it's a V4 shaft drive... my VFR1200X.

And no rain.. yay! :woohoo:

For any patriotic US readers who feel it was remiss of me not to post a Harley, there were a few, but I only photographed this one. Sorry, they're just not my thing!

Nor mine. My first bike was a 47 knuckle head on a frame I made in high school metal shop (Side note, my sister was the shop foreman/ Teachers assistant for the 2 years we shared the class) Looking back, of all my bikes, that was the most hated. My friends called it "The Rainbow Maker" because of the amount of oil it lost...

Rode to my grandson's middle school concert tonight. Took the shorter faster route to get there due to time. Concert was good. Traveled just over 46 miles tonight taking the longer way home.

Day 4: So far rain, wind, cold and heat. These bikes are really great, huh.
I wanted to take a big bite out of the ride. Mission accomplished. Now I'll start "meandering up to Cape Cod.
UPDATE: I'm in West Plains, MO
The bike has failed. Going up and across a highway bridge it just plain shut off. It evidently stopped charging. Spent a day (yesterday) in a motosports dealership trying to sort it out. Super kind, talented, helpful crew but literally at the end of the day they have concluded it it the alternator and / or regulator. I didn't know that the regulator is attached to the alternator. The flat-rate book says 5.3 hours labor to RR the unit and the parts come up to t a tic over $1100. Essentially it is "totaled". The real heartbreak is the end of my trip.
_ They had a 2006 BMW K1200LT on the floor. Made me a very fair deal to trade my ST and buy the BMW. Once I got all my gear and luggage transferred to the new bike and started back on my way to Cape Cod ... it became clear that the Beemer is not going to work. It has is's own problems (multiple).
_ Does anyone in the Missouri, or Arkansas have a ST1300 for sale? If so, PM me.

riderguy57 has one posted for sale in Fayetteville, not too far from you, looks like it is in great shape. Posted on the forum in bikes for sale.

thanks for all the pic's guys, due to health issues i'm unable to ride
the Wing in Hound's post should be a '78, '79's had the rectangle shaped turn signals

I rode up to Kansas to attend @roginoz annual RTE and visit family. Thanks again Roger.

I'm home now but I did manage to camp and ride on the Natchez trace a bit on my way home. It sure is quiet at the Trace campground (when everyone else's electric dodads are turned off (not much)). And it's too late in the year for cool southern camping. It was about 78 degrees and 100% humidity right after the rains at the Rock Springs campground. Pretty much sweat all evening.

Thanks for the extra info Doc. Sorry to hear about your health. I was told over 20 years ago by the doctor that one of the things I shouldn't do any more was ride a motorcycle. So I went straight out and got an ST....

Get well soon.
