While trying to deliver an informed reply to @Willsmotorcycle I searched for the RBIS where I found that link I included in my first post, but the first link I tried was to post in the NT-Owners.org website where your apocryphal story is backed up first hand by their member, karl. He describes the first prototype being built using his bike (an NT700 I assume). https://www.nt-owners.org/forums/threads/rbis-or-similar-dash-mounting.7513/post-102359

That was when the prototype for the NT700 was released. This dash shelf design was first conceived for the ST1300 by Throttlejockey, a member of this forum, way before that. He made it as a DIY project for his ST1300 back in March of 2010.

In July of 2010 another member here, RealST of SportTouring.com, with the blessing of Throttlejockey as I recall, began refining this design and started manufacturing and selling them for the ST1300. He operated a business at the time selling motorcycle sport touring related merchandise. He developed and sold this dash shelf design for several motorcycles.

That’s awesome! Could have used it Saturday, but will still do it in the future. All of you cringing from that hole in the cowl. I had a spare, I took off the original and put it on the shelf, tidy up that one and drilled. This way I can put it back later and install a “proper” bracket. Thanks for all your input!!

Got the ST all back together and cleaned up after some major maintenance. Took it out for a shake down run around Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. Put 176 miles on it today and it's fine.

A month ago I finished thermostat, valve shim changes, synch, fork overhaul, etc, etc, etc, etc.....
Anyway after a month of pandemic driven business I finally made it back into the MC spa.
I cleaned up the spa, rolled out the 06A out and did a successful engine warm up cycling the fans.
No leaks. Fantastic.

Got the garage #4 squared away, so I thought I'd park the 2012 & 04 in it.



But that was after I didn't listen to myself, thinking the top case and saddlebags should ALWAYS be removed before trying to get the bike up on the lift.

I actually made it up on the lift just fine. But I found the lift wasn't forward enough, so when I tried to take the off the center stand, instead of going to the left, where I could control it, it went to the right and down!.






I went next door and got my neighbor to help me right it. I took the right saddlebag off before picking it back up. Did some damage here and there, but nothing real serious. Glad I had the Goldwing rear crash bars on it!

After doing 2 x runs using the Goldwing with my mates over the last 3 weeks, I headed off for a solo run on the ST1100 (about 200 miles) around the lochs to Tarbert on the Kintyre Peninsula. Stopped a few times to fine tune the damping on the rear shock which helped the handling.
Thoroughly enjoyed the ride, the bike ran beautifully, smooth & responsive.
Its still my favourite bike

I'm new to the ST scene, just picked up a 2002 about 3 months ago. Rode it home to East Texas from Lake Charles, LA. Noticed that it ran really cold (gauge fully to left) until I got to stop and go traffic in a city, then it would go to 80 or 90% to the right. So a month after getting it home I pulled the thermostat housing and found the original Tstat was broken in two pieces. Also found the original 100 degree fan switch was bad. In pulling the Tstat housing found some hoses looked a little sketchy, so I ordered a full set of hoses for the bike. Then realized that the carbs would need to come off the get the two hoses to the cylinder heads changed. That led to the discovery that the carb to manifold boots showed some dry cracking. So what started as a simple thermostat replacement turned into 3 weeks torn down in the garage as I waited for more and more parts to arrive. Temp gauge now runs at about 1/3 scale, fan cycles on and off like a champ, no coolant leaks and no intake vacuum leaks! The bike is a joy to ride, smooth as butter and much better wind protection than my R1100GS. (but the GS is a heck of a lot more fun off pavement!)

Wiped snow off a half exposed wheel smfh. Upstate new york , a wonderful place to live!!!! She has a cover on but the wind must have rustled up the front wheel part. Came home from work to a couple inches of the cold white stuff and was not amused. Anyways weather's getting nice for the weekend on a good note. Will have to take her for a ride around the lake.

It turned up the day I posted that (2 days early), and yesterday I needed to go to the office, so:


I have also learnt a few things:

• I ordered the 21", not the 22" - no big deal, I'm told size isn't important anyway. It gets the job done.
• 3M adhesive is stickier than a clenched gecko's foot. The convex mirror will not come off the previous screen. Ho hum, wasn't expensive anyway, I can always attack that later.
• My bike previously had a lightly smoked screen on it - never realised - this one is so clear I swear half the time it's not even there!
• "Screen down" button is non-functional again, which means at some point, I'm taking the front end off the bike to investigate. But while I have the mirrors off, I can at least fit the light mounts (for the lights I haven't yet purchased).

I had a leak in my clutch cylinder losing fluid from the resivoir. I changed the cylinder, it was not fun!
