What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

The rear is out of the realm of most mechanics, backyard, or other. Racetech is one option. The fronts however are quite serviceable by most hobbyists/mechanics. Get springs to match your weight and if you want to save some money, experiment with different viscosities of fork oils. Depending on your needs/skill level, you may find this is all you need. Adding adjustable valving to the forks increases the tuneability of the damping. If you get it acceptable with just changing and tuning the fork oil, you can save alot.
 
Weather is just right, finally, and most of my parts are in place. I started refurbishment of my 1991 ST1100 this morning. Got her stripped down in three hours and some minutes. Removed the air filter, gas tank and carbs. It gets a major cleaning in that area in the morning. Wouldn't you know it....found enough that I didn't like that I ordered more parts. The biggie is the exhaust.. The collector at the rear of the headers no longer looks like stainless, more like a rust collector sooooo I ordered a complete Delkevic system with the larger 18 inch mufflers. The heat shields don't need new paint but they will end up red to offset the black all over the bike. She will end up with rebuilt carbs, rebuilt PAIR system, new 'soft' parts like hoses, tubes and manifolds, new gas tank with new pump and sending unit. Already taking photos, will post them when complete.

Washed and waxed both the ST and the Guzzi and gave them both a short run before parking and covered both bikes. Plugged in the battery tenders. Today it snowed. Busy few days.
Washed and waxed the bike.
Installed a set of Oxford grips (And managed to get Superglue on the tank! :mad:)
Went for a 400km loop yesterday in the fall colors with a buddy yesterday.
The bike's growing on me. T30's don't like tar strips while heeled over at speed :rolleyes:

I don't think any tires likes those freaking tar repair strips. "Tar snakes" are another problem. I was freaked out when I ran over a few of those this summer and the bike moved over a few feet! Wow, not a good feeling on a 700lb bike!

Try some gasoline on a rag for the superglue. Not sure what to else to try. I've used gas often to clean up paint before, not too much rubbing though. Then add some wax to that area again. Good luck....
 
Finally got the new wheels and tires on, after hitting that chunk of concrete at 60+ mph and breaking both of my wheels, and took for a short ride down the street to check the brakes and forks.. all seems fine. Now to gear up and take it for a longer ride and scuff off the tire mold tits off the tire....:bk13:. !!!!!!!!!! T

I’m still a fan of the Michelin PR 4 GT’s. Very stable, great in the wet And good mileage (14-16 thou kms). Per set.
they don’t like straight roads but that’s okay neither do I :biggrin:
 
After midnight starter valve synch following the previous spa days involving throwing out dead tenant’s belongings and complete hydraulics drain, brake/clutch slave, and SMC clean out. Also last night checked balancer adjustment.
Really nice night to do that.
BTW the upper room was stuffed with fur from at least three animals and two colors of paper towel confetti, the room below the alternator was stuffed with newspaper confetti.

I let a real live motor bike mechanic do valve clearance check on my 04 ST1300 this week. Was last done at 25000. Now almost 80,000. Surprise.... no shims required,all within spec. I did learn my water pump is leaking into my exhaust. Guy says it a big job. About $600 to replace the ceramic gaskets and repair pump. No panic just a slow seep.
