What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Took Brutus for a 70 mile jailbreak ride to get coffee and soup. Basically it was a "circulate the fluids" jaunt.

On my initial arrival at the storage unit I was impressed by the manager, who not only recognized me (we've met exactly twice) but also called the bike by name. What an amazing memory for detail, considering how many people she must see, talk to, and deal with in the course of a month. Last time I'd seen or communicated with her was in early December when I signed the rental agreement.

My Wing buddy called and said 'Let's ride!' We got breakfast locally then did a 160mi jaunt up through Napa. It was a gorgeous day. Perfect weather. On the way we passed an uncontrolled airstrip with an air tour business of a few vintage planes.

This is the most famous of the stable. It's doing a run up getting ready for take off. Note the three shiny covers on the leading edge of the wing. And the bulge on the belly.

The tours last approximately 20min (more if you have the wallet for it). Prior to landing at made a low (not buzz) level pass to observe wind conditions let everybody know he was coming in. It was doing about 250mph and did a slight banking rising turn. It was a thing of beauty. And the sound! It was powered by a 12cyl 2000HP Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The original was a 1700HP Packard Merlin but the owner upgraded. People fret about the gas mileage of the STs. This bird drank 50gpm.

Along with the P-51D the company's stable had a P-40 Tigershark (1 of 25 left flying) that had three kills to it in its glory days. They also had a T-6 Texan and a British Chipmunk. There were also two biplanes in a hanger that we didn't get to.

I wish I had been in a piccie mood instead of a gawking one and taken more. Maybe next time. It was a fun day.

Made current consumption measurements to see what exactly was the likely culprit and MO for the serial murders of innocent ATM fuses on my bike. My theory was confirmed, and the defendant is now being cross examined. A3BC29D3-A167-48C4-AE09-D488F53F919F.jpeg

For grins, this little thang was in front of me today

Don’t ya just love ridin up on one thinking it owns the road and then wobbles when they see the mighty ST tracking right on their tails through the twisties. Safely of course[emoji48]

Spent the day cleaning top to bott. Two coats of carniba was, cleaned every knook and cranny, took apart the Truro signal switches which were very hard. Degreased then, cleaned the housings, put it back together and did the same on the start side.
Ordered a double usb/ volt meter and now O have to figure out how,to,wire it to the switch

There is no better sound than a Rolls Royce Merlin, now I'll be walking around trying to replicate the noise all day.
Upt'North.

What a beaut. The P-51 was influential in winning the war. Thanks for posting.

Found I have a coolant leak so simple maintenance day is turning into extended stay:(. Picked up a HF loft off CL last night so I am fully enjoying not laying on the floor.
Hello. I get HF is Harbor Freight but what what is CL? And did you get a good price on the lift? Thanks
Dave

Well, I'm back to three ST1300s in my Stable(s). Two running, the 2010 & the 2012. The '04#1 is sitting in my backyard shed waiting for me to get out there and start working on it again!

Saturday and Sunday, Chris and I cleaned out our storage unit and it's now all sitting in our two car garage...and no room for either car at this time!

They raised our rates where we said no more. This will save me from having to pay $253 a month.

That said, I sold my '04#2 last week to my friend, and I gave the '06 basketcase to my son, Brett. It will be fun to see him work on it and get it on the road. One thing I'll be doing is to start pulling parts aside as I go through my parts for Brett. And I'll be putting some stuff up for sale to cut down on having so much!

Doing that around here would likely get you shot at.
Or at a minimum, blocked.

In Kalifornia, and according to the CHP website, blocking a motorcycle from Lane Splitting can get you a ticket! :thumb:

In fact this morning, for the first 20 miles of my commute on the freeway I had a Police Escort. There was a cop on a bike Lane Splitting, and because of his presence, the cages were more considerate than normal! :rofl1:

I wasn’t referring to the fast little Honda as the sweet little thang, rather that’s a little girl with no gear and cat ears on her helmet. Cute as hell, but if she were my daughter, things would change. Just sayin
