What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

We had a forecast for fog/sun on Saturday, and rain and wind on Sunday; and they got it right! So Saturday was a lovely ride to/from Wellsford along SH 16, this is a great ride that approximately follows the edge of the Kaipara Harbour and is all about frequent elevation changes and 55-65km/hr posted corners. The ST and I just lapped that up for about 3 hours, including the motorway to get there.

Sunday was tear-down day as I decided to bite the bullet and fit heated grips and my phone mount/charger. The 1300 was a more challenging bike to do this on, mainly due to the very tight confines through the midsection which made for a few challenges running the power feed forwards. I fitted a fused relay under the seat triggered from a taillight which switches the direct power feed from the battery on/off with the key. A few hours work, a bit of soldering and lots of heatshrink and cable ties and I'm happy with the job. Even figured out how to mount the TPMS to the phone cradle mount.

This was also a good chance to give the engine a good scrub down, and the swap out the coolant. Man that engine bay is densely packed!

Can't believe I actually found and bought a unicorn - lovely little Corbin seat and smuggler package purchased and awaiting delivery - used but it's even the right colour! :)

Now to figure out how to get a replacement key
Based on my own experience: Find a well-rated local (chain okay, but not a national chain) locksmith with a stationary location, not just a van.

My experience: The K&G luggage on my '96 CB750ST* had one key for the saddlebag locks and another for the trunk lid and release locks. Plus, I lost the keys as well as the key to the Vetter locking compartment. However, I had the numbers recorded on the Vetter forum.

He was able to cut the Vetter key from the number, but had to pick the other locks. Long story short, I ended up with one key for all of the luggage. My point is that a competent locksmith (not a key-copier) should be able to unlock the lock and leave you with a functioning key.

Sorry for the rambling story, or if it's an incredibly obvious suggestion.

Washed, detailed, handwaxed with carnauba gold. , added volt meter and is charging ports,

Great find! Looking' sharp. Congratulations.

Getting ready to ride to Cades Cove tomorrow and decided to put on a new front tire. PO had a BT045R rear tire on front. I guess I am enough of a stickler for detail that if a guy who made motorcycle tires for a living decided to emboss "Rear Use Only" on the sidewall, there might just be a hint of a reason for it, and I might ought to follow his advice. Thus a new G547 to go with the new BT020R I put on the rear a couple of weeks ago. The G547 says "Front Use Only" and somehow I feel better about that.

Wired in the new gps unit and my 2x4 accessory box is getting crowded. (radar, grips, tpms, gps, phone, dual USB) Making the move to a really, really small Garmin unit (compared to my tablet) has really made the dash more palatable.

Installed a Clearview shield with adj. vent. Waiting for the weather to clear for a trial run...

Took my first official trip to work on my new 03'. Was dreading the limestone gravel drive and parking lot, but it wasn't so bad. The faint smell of coolant tells me my weekend is booked.
