What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Did you get them to turn, trying to come up with an idea to get them to turn. Thinking of an expandable rubber plug to grip the bore so I can see if they turn.

Below is one option for you to try.

Tighten the buttons on the rotor between a bolt of the largest diameter that will fit in and a nut. Apply a little penetrating fluid if you have to. I usually start with alcohol because I don't have to worry if it gets on the friction surface of the rotor. Just the fact that it is liquid softens up the hardened brake dust gumming up the buttons and helps loosen them up. Don't crush the buttons. Tighten the bolt just enough so that the button will rotate with the bolt and allow you to work it back and forth to loosen all of the debris out from under it.

Here are the rubber expandable plugs I was thinking about, Using the bolt and nut is a good idea, just a bit evasive if I don't put a softener like gasket material or rubber on the brake bushing so it doesn't scuff up.

Ted is it? Yeah, this surprised me because I had cleaned the reservoir out spotless last spring (prior to that who knows how long the fluid had been in there; the bike sat for several years).
Clutch operation is currently good so it’s hard to chase something when everything working properly. I will keep an eye on how quickly this new fluid darkens.
Obviously there’s some sludge at the CSC and based on my experience I can only conclude that operating the clutch causes a backwash of fluid from the CSC into the reservoir.
I’m sure I’ve got that backwards and it may take several more flushes to clear it up.
Brand new CSC on the workbench ready if needed.

Mine started darkening like that, rebuilt the master clutch cylinder and no more trouble. The rubber seals were getting very soft - lots of degradation. Felt a lot better after rebuild as well.

Backlash adjustment on balance shafts. Lower one was stuck pretty good, don’t think these have ever been touched.

Carbtune showed up today so starter valve sync next week!

I also picked up a INNOVV K3, to add to it, replacing the K1 I had.

If I can get everything done before WeSTOC, I'll be riding it.
 
I finally got around to installing the new clutch slave cylinder this morning. Not as bad as I thought it would be. Hooked up my new Motion Pro bleeder for the first time and started working the clutch lever back and forth hundreds of times before I realized that the bleeder screw was closed. I don't know if this mistake helped but once I opened it, it bled almost immediately! Gonna let her sit overnight with the clutch lever tied back and recheck in the morning. It already is very firm. Oh, BTW, I didn't remove the oil filter, thus saving it and even more oil. As it was, I still lost over 1 quart. Don't be afraid to tackle this job, as long as you have access to the proper tools, especially the 8mm socket with built-in swivel. Jevers
 
While working on the 2012 yesterday, I decided I needed to change out the coolant, since it's been five years since I last did it. I hunted all through my ST1300 parts/bins for the lower radiator hose, and couldn't find it. So I took a chance to try to break the lower connection loose, without screwing up the hose. That didn't work! :censored: So I had no choice, but to order a new one. Then later I was hunting for the hose to an upper fuel tank to the lower fuel tank, and what did I find, the coolant hose I was looking for and had already ordered! :thumb:, but I still didn't find the fuel hose. I did however find 4 that would work on the 2004 (and the 2010, since I have the 2004 upper tank on it - :bl13:. :rolleyes: So, I had to order those, and WOW, I can't believe how much they want for them now! So, the coolant has been changed. I also pulled up the upper tank and replaced the air filter. I'm now installing my new INNOVV K3 camera system on it. Tomorrow, I hope to get more done, since I'll be gone all next week and then the week after that, I'll only have a couple of days to work on it, so my time is running out! o_O

About a quarter mile from my place a car on the side street looked like it might not stop. I tapped the brake levers and the rear locked up.
Having practiced locking up rear brakes as a kid so much made guiding the bike to the edge of the road relatively easy.
Took a look at the rear caliper spun forward with the stop pin hanging out.
Next I walked home, took a dump, grabbed the golf cart and tools.
The golf cart gave me cover as the bike was just past the crest at the intersection. Funny how my mind was suddenly alert to every safety
detail.

It was a reminder to not work on the bike when suffering jet lag, lack of sleep etc.
 
Finally removed the little stickers on the tank that IGOFAR has been pestering me for years. Then buffed the tank to get those other blemishes cleaned.

I know I posted recently on some thread or other, whenever I work on brakes I never do it when there are distractions and always return after lunch etc and check the thing is buttoned up. So easy to think you've done something if you're not able to apply ya'self.
Many workshops used to have a second check by another tech after a brake job, I doubt they still do.
Well done keeping it up. But that's a whole different subject.

I finished up the camera install, and changed out the sparkplugs.

I'm now cleaning it up and I installed the right side fairing with a new one I picked in Kaliforniastan on one of my many trips back and forth. Now I have to add the lower air deflectors.

Not long after moving here, I dropped the 2012 on it's right side, breaking off both tabs that attach to the under fairing (belly fairing?) So I've been looking for one for about a year or so. I'm still looking for a left side too. it has a hole in it from a bar that hit me on the freeway several years ago during one of my commutes.

So , I'm getting close to finishing it.
