What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Rode parts of Hastings County,& Northumberland County.Stopped in Alderville Rez for some fries at a “chip truck”,also deep fried battered Oreos. RTE. 3 hours of traffic free riding before the cottages come up North.

Completed Brego’s 25600km service interval. Spark plugs changed.

Removed 7’s but installed 8’s for this interval. 4, 3, 2, 1 in the pic. I am lead to believe that it is a science (or witchcraft) reading spark plugs. All I know is “one of these things is not like the other”. I will research to see if I can find out what the “rust coloured ring” means on number 3 but if there are any “readers” out there, I’m all ears.
All valves were within spec. First time doing this on any motorcycle and could not have done it without the awesome articles and worksheets on this site. Very manageable with the right tools and information. Seeing as I popped my cherry on this, I did a second check following service manual procedure. Same result.:)
Oil and filter change. Moment of hesitation before firing him up…mental checklist…everything torqued…OK; hold breathing, insert key, close eyes, hit the starter…he’s alive! Awesome.
I let it warm up and idle gently to three bars; perfect @1000 RPM. No need to fiddle with the idle adjustment.
Now the plastic…

As touched upon in another thread I’ve got the fairings off doing some routine servicing on my new to me 1100. I hoped it was good underneath but I have been shocked by how little corrosion there is under there. After I cleaned the dust and dirt away it’s almost perfect clean shiny metal pretty much everywhere. it is low mileage at 12000 miles but is still 20years old so that’s plenty of time for it to rot away. Going to make sure I keep it nice.

Ordered a new 20 inch Rifle windshield in dark smoke. And a HiFlo air filter. Topped up tires. OEM Excedras at 35pisi front and 40 rear.
Very hot and humid today, only did about 25 miles.

This is what I would expect from a stainless exhaust. During a refurbishment of my 1991 a year back, I found my headers to be exfoliating...extensive tiny flakes on the bends but still a surprise.
Replaced it all with an aftermarket set (Delkevic).

I'm up in Kalispell Montana, my oldest son finally got to ride that 05 I gave him a couple years ago. He and I followed our wifes, us on ST1300s, them in a cage, up through Glacier National Park. It was a great ride.
Would have been much better if I wouldn't have forgotten my RDL. That dang OEM saddle is worthless!

Rode back from the UK Federation of Sidecar Clubs 2021 Annual Rally. Courtesy of the pandemic this is just about the first time in 2 years we have been able to hold this event. Out of 70 outfits on the field 8 were pulled by STs. Not bad eh!

I had to look it up myself, been so long since reading plugs was a concern for me. It's called Corona stain, #2 in this link. https://ngksparkplugs.com/en/resources/5-things-you-should-know-about-spark-plugs

Maybe the plug boot was not completely sealed at the valve cover, or there may be a slight oil weep at the spark plug well o ring. Check that the plug well drain holes are unobstructed.

Changed my first tire (rear). Man, was that Bridgestone BT020 hard to get off! I ended up cutting it. I broke my hand in June and don’t have my strength back yet, which it contributed to the challenge.

The new Michelin Road 5 GT went on pretty easy, got it good and warm and I barely needed the spoons.

My splines looked great at 94,000 km, I gave them a good cleaning, new O-ring and new coat of $63 Loctite Moly paste (These pics are before cleaning, just wiped down).
