What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

well I-94 is still closed due to flooding. i also rode over to my mom's, her basement flooded Saturday. a few of my nephews have been over cleaning out all the stuff that got wet and are about ready to mop the floor20210628_181645.jpg20210628_191502.jpg20210628_191456.jpg

What did i do today. Bought an 04 with 40400 klms (24000 mi) a week ago and took it straight to my mechanic and had tires put on and every fluid flushed and changed. Had whole bike inspected. So today i got it back. What a change from a big harley. I love it. Looking forward to puting lots of klms on it.

I mostly spent some time cleaning up the accessory wiring under the seat. I need to take some pics of what I've done in the last few weeks.

Anyone else get hip issues? I find when starting off sometimes, I get a pain high in either hip. Have to move around, stretch the leg out or sometimes even stand up to get it comfortable again. Not sure what's going on, maybe just the body taking more time to adjust to a new position.

I'm starting to have issues with my hips. It was getting pretty bad for a while and it's why I switched from a Suzuki V-Strom to an ST this spring. I was having too much trouble getting on and off the higher bike. So far the extra 200lbs (on the bike, not me) doesn't seem to bother anything but the lower seat height is wonderful.

Just a quick stop at a local point of interest. Checking out some hardware…

This is a fuel cargo ship registered to Malta, 163 meters by 23 meters transiting through the Seaway Locks system.
Also, a little wildlife spotted

This is an osprey with her chicks. Supper time.

I had to have a left hip replacement. Switched from a Harley ultra limited to a st1300. The weight makes a big difference. The extra power doesn't hurt either.

This evening, I completed the PCV and Ground cap recalls on my '02 13... as they hadn't been done yet  Thankfully, no leaks at the PCV and no damage near the ground cap!

I say 'completed', what I actually mean is I done all the hard bits and swapped the parts, but then the midges came out so I abandoned it, and will put the tank and tupperware back on in the morning :) I'm also chasing a possible slow fuel leak, suspecting a holed vent/return/drain line in the upper tank as the level drops to about half overnight then stops, but can't see anything worrying on the endoscope. Might just have to fill it tomorrow and see if anything drips...

Decided to ride out to our Nation’s Capital on the 154th Birthday of this great country! :canflag1:
No traditional celebrations scheduled for today with COVID-19 having once again high jacked our fun. But I did catch this… not very well but still…

The Canadian Snowbirds aerobatic squad was in town for a few fly-bys and they had some unusual company. They flew in formation with a CF-18, something I had never seen before. As you can see, no social distancing here.
I very cool thing to witness and hear.
Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadian ST members.

It’s scheduled maintenance time (19 200km) so Brega got a sponge bath today in preparation for some TLC. I do not like working on a dirty bike. As per Service Manual, will be changing the Air Cleaner filter, flushing the clutch and brake fluids and checking the brake pad wear.
Will also be picking up my LED’s for my lighting upgrade so I might try to squeeze that in.

I thought about riding Brutus, it’s been 7 weeks since I wore the back tire to the cords on the VFR recon trip. A quick wheel swap and we’d be rolling. Until I discovered this

My other rear wheel doesn’t have the drive spline so I hopped on the Silver Spare and went for a 90 ride.
I have a bearing set thanks to an ebay seller that tossed them in a box with something else that I bought.

Good catch under all that mess. :)

My Brother called me, he was going to go for a ride and found no air in the front tire (and subsequently the rear). He found the valve stem cracked where it entered the rim. I told him I would put a metal one on and solve THAT problem. Pull the tire off the rim, replace the valve stem and remount the tire. As the bead pops into place I notice a circumferential crack opens up just outside of the rim. I look at the date code on the tire and it was made the 51st week of....1995 !! Well that made sense as his ST is a '95. The rear tire was out of air and was circa 2001. Time for baby to get some new shoes. Did some research and chose the Bridgestone Battlax T32's. Boy, did that make the '95 feel like a whole new bike. They dance a little going straight down the road but when you hit a curve they stick like s**t to a blanket. My Brother isn't an aggressive rider so these hoops should be more than adequate.

Completed scheduled maintenance (see post #2343). Test ride; brakes solid, clutch smooth and fully engaged, brake pads OK. LED’s will be for another day.
Clutch bleed valve was “stuck?”/“seized?”. It took a maximum effort on the spanner but finally it “snapped”, very similar to removing the transmission fill cap on my Accord.
The swear jar is now overflowing as this was my first experience removing and reinstalling the various pieces of fairing. Lots of help from this forum but there is nothing like seeing and doing the tasks yourself. Patience tried but satisfying results.
Let’s ride!

rode down to wal mart for a few things this morning. its been to hot to ride in the afternoons. like riding into an hair dryer with temps over 100 degrees

The Yuasa was getting a bit tired, holds a charge but having to keep it on charger more.
Bought a Li-ion battery from Amazon, was a decent price.
Trying it as an experiment. 300 CCA.
pic of battery and video of new battery spinning up cold bike.
fires up great!
will update as the year goes.

Rode it 50 miles to Lake Bala, broke down, 'fixed' it, rode home again. I'm suspecting the ground block in the front fairing - it'd cut out (leaving indicators and oil pressure dash light on dim, even with the key out) if I turned on the headlights or used the indicators or windscreen adjuster. Horn worked though! (Small blessings and all that :) )
