What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Today STacy's rider did his annual ride to the Oso Slide Disaster (USGS calls it the Hazel Landslide) site. The high speed mud flow and debris (in excess of 40 mph +) site looks as it always does, an idyllic site to put a small residential community up. However, in 2014 the mountain ridge above the small community of Steel Head Haven (40 homes) came sliding down at speeds of up to 40 mph + sweeping the community, highway and river aside. 41 people died, some were in homes and some were just passing through on the highway. This disaster is the first disaster her rider did not participate in the National Guard response. He did not respond as he had retired 2 months prior after 30 years of service. It was the first time he realized that it was no longer "his" National Guard. The torch had passed and time had marched on...

Purely aesthetic reasons.

Too bad you bought the adapter plate kit and decided to not use the plates. You buy the kit specifically for the plates I thought or if you had just bought a set of used goldwing bars on Ebay etc for a lot cheaper, you would have just had to get some bolts and a properly sized spacer like Andrew came up with. You can always sell your adapter plates if you decided to. Seems like they are still a popular item.

If not using the plates, you definitely need to compress the bars a little with a vice and maintain that compressed position with hose clamps to line up with the holes on your bike. Use some cotton towels under the clamps so you don't scratch your bars.

Andrew put together a "how to" on here on how he installed his bars. I followed it and am very happy with the results. Cost was about $40 CAN.

In retrospect and after reading several threads on the subject, I would have just purchased the bars. Such as it is, I will pursue (until it is no longer feasible) the mods proposed in this forum.
The purchase of the kit is not lost as:
1) if the mods applied do not conform, I will use the plates
2) if I am successful with the mods, I will offer the plates for sale
Thanks for your feedback @Kevcules :thumb:

Ahem. That advice is especially appropriate after the bars are installed.
While that advice was directed more at protecting the bars from the hose clamps during installation, you are correct of course. There is no better advice that can be offered to protect the bars from being scratched after installation than keeping the motorcycle upright.

Removed the 100W H4s fitted by the previous owner :well1: and replaced with the F2 LEDs. Significantly less power consumption, less heat, and more light than even the two 100W bulbs!!

My Pendale Parking brake is in the mail. I managed to get my order in 15 minutes before he shut the shop down till September. Looking forward to installing it.

I added the plastic pivot pin and plunger caps.
Nice touch! I'd like something maybe in rosewood walnut burl or maybe kevazinga.

It's a great bit of kit. When I ordered mine I knew there would definitely be occasions for use. But once installed it got used a lot more than I imagined. A great little farkle.
