Lol....Clint start to talks to a share nowadays....:) planning and thoughts about may just slower you down more! spontaneous is more lively/fun! Y-all better live it up while y-ll still can!

Referring to post# 103...These ideas are great and I encourage all possibilities. My concern is the dramatic shift from not sure Thailand is possible to lets puff it up to include a near RTW trip

I think you need a little meditation time, Tip.

For me, your idea is gonna work in one of the next few years.

Hey guys -

Sounds like this is getting bigger and bigger and bigger!

I can only manage about a month finances-wise so that's what I'm going to need to focus on....

Meanwhile, I posted this in an email but wanted to throw it up here for comment and consolidation...

THE PACKING LIST!

I'm going to try and limit myself to either a small set of saddle bags or a tail bag.

For riding, I'm wearing cargo pants, long sleeve shirt, and gloves. I'm bringing an off-road roost shirt/jacket
(something similar to this http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/charger_off_road_jacket/web1008836)
that I got for cheap at CycleGear and don't care if it gets a mess. For shoes, a comfy pair of work boots that I can walk a long way in if I have to!
For helmet, I'm thinking about just buying a cheap 3/4 there so I don't have to deal with it as a carry-on or worry about checking it.

I'm assuming it will probably rain but I'm gonna either skip the rain gear or carry a small poncho.

For clothes: I'm only planning to bring a second pair of cargo pants, either one or two shirts, PJ's, swimwear, undies, flip-flops, McNett towel (http://www.mcnett.com/Outgo-Ultra-Compact-Microfiber-Towel-P331.aspx).

For sundries: soap, small washcloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, meds, comb, small first aid kit, skeeter net, skeeter spray, maybe a hammock, small flashlight, cat can stove

For electronics: probably a GPS, maybe a SPOT communicator & smart phone (semi-sat-phone like capabilities), 2 cig outlets that I can wire onto the bike (1 for GPS, 1 to charge phone), camera (but will probably use the phone for that), haven't decided yet on laptop/tablet issue (I'll want to have it but I don't need it).

For shots, l'll probably only get the typhoid shot, skip Hep A&B, had a tetanus shot the end of 2010 and not really worried about rabies.

Planning to buy anti-malaria drugs in either Mexico or over there.

BIG THING!!!!! COFFFFEEEEE!!! Haven't quite decided what to do about that! :)

Looking at picking up one of these water filters because it packs small and adapts to either a water bottle or hydration bag!

Hadn't thought about a water bladder, good idea there.

The water filter is available from Amazon for ~$18. I can order and carry 5 of them. I suggest a water bladder from Walmart,,, but replace their bite valve with a CamelBak, available at most bicycle shops or any camping store.

French-Indo China means Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos was once colonized by Da French. these 3 countries was once slavers to Da French. Not ride from France to SEA:)

France lost the 'Nam part of their empire at Dien Bien Phu, that's basically when the US took over.

(BTW, I read somewhere recently Truman was sending aid over there well before the Korean blow-up. The French were our allies.

Eisenhower sent advisors, Kennedy sent troops... and so on, and so on. Now Viet Horse motorcycle club is riding big BMers and Gold Wings around the whole country and across international borders.

Da French got thier hids-end kicks by Uncle Ho-Chimin, The kamer Rueg and The pathet-Lao long before WWII, after WWII @1952 USA started to get in SEA to help Da French and deep in after. And I became boat people/refugee....

Tip, in America, "You don't have to live like a refugee", well, at least according to Tom Petty !
We love you man.

Joe, great song! I was living like a rafugee many moons ago, as y-ll no todays I'm an Americans as much as y-ll :D

How's everyone doing shopping for tickets?
Passports all clear?

As Joe said...we love ya, Tip. You're more American than most Americans, with that vast collection of automotive memorabilia.

I may just go ahead and get another International Drivers Licence whether or not it's needed. It adds a layer of insulation at traffic stops.
Local AAA issues them.
I'll probably never need it but better to have it and not need it than the other way around.
If you do go for this SPECIFY the motorcycle part and make sure it arrives on the final product.

Haven't purchased ticket yet... Will do tho. Lots of choices out'a LAX if 'Vegas doesn't pan out. Couple hunnert +/_ is not a biggie.

Got some 'nother interesting news, Maren from Montana who invited me to go to Mexico starting today (Sorry, Maren, can't make it) also sez she will be in S.E.A mid February,,, also asked if we need contacts over there as "she knows some people."

Waiting to hear back from her now. :D

Just for you, George
