Old Enough To Remember?

€ 4.99,- over here... € 9.10,- for the menu...
(€ 1.31,- when they first launched in AuSTria 1977... cannot say that my income multiplied by the factor 3.8...)
Took the grandkids to McD´s south of Ausgburg last weekend thinking I could have a cheap-ish day out with one Mac Rip menu for me and two childrens menu for the rugrats.
"What is that Grandad?"
"Can I try..?"
"Me too Grandad..!"
So it ended up with three McRip menus, two kids menues with chicken nuggets, extra coke and three McFlurries and minus 70 Euros.

... only to feel significant hunger again 45 minutes later ...
€ 70,- equals ATS 1000,-... a sum one lived easily for two weeks back in the 90ies ... or refueled his car 5~6 times ...

When I get annoyed over prices I automatically convert to DM... Seventy Euros is a hundred and forty Marks in real Money, converting is a bad habit I should drop.

But the (net)income hasn't tripled or quadrupled in the past 24 years...
ATS 500,- (€ 35,-) meant filling a grocery cart completely, food for two weeks and then some... now those € 35,- merely cover six(!) items in the cart, and this at Aldi...

Last weekend I took the bike up the Silvretta and stayed overnight. Filled up the bike for 45 Euros, 18 Euros just to go over their crappy road, a hundred Euros for the hotel on the top, 30 Euros for a schnitzel and two beers, Topped up with cheap Austrian petrol at Fernpass. SOooo that is 400 Marks for a weekend.....!

Those EC lobbyists really got us there...

I Remember when I was 4 you could get 3 mojo's for a Penny ,canada stopped using Pennys a few years back

I can remember early - mid 60's going to a candy store in a local strip mall (and crossing the highway to get there.....), getting a small paper bag and then picking from a range of candy where you'd get 3 - 5 pieces for a penny. Usually spent a nickle. Chocolate bars were a nickle as well. Bag of candy or one chocolate bar......... decisions decisions. Got 25 cents a week allowance.

'75 or '76 at McD's. 3 value burgers and a small fry for 90 or 95 cents.

My grandfather would watch the local farm report that began at 5am. Afterward the station displayed the 'off the air' screen until the local news/weather and Captain Kangaroo came on. There was another blank period until the soap operas came on. Sunday mornings were either WWII military documentaries or blank screen 'til noon. I did love the stage-filmed commercials.....Blue Plate Mayo and Timex watch torture tests were my favorite.
