Itchy Boots

Well, now I finally looked at this thread and found that we're not talking
about how boots make your feet itch, the way everybody knows putting on a
helmet makes your scalp itch, and closing the visor on your full face helmet
makes your nose itch (doubly bad itching if you have gloves on!)

She seems like a nice lady that has great adventures. I'll have to block off some time to
do more than just skim a few quick peeks at her videos.

Following her rather infrequently (stumbled over her during COVID boredom while searching for Norway and Island trips...) I have a different take on the whole issue...

As an Earhart or Beard already clearly showed: they can do something, if they just want to... ;)

She addresses it well. Yet don't forget that she must to play on camera as well.

For many of us, just an ordinary riders, filming would be the least on our mind in case of adversity.
I think a lot of the filming is taken care of by her cameras - i.e. they are mounted and set up to run constantly. She edits out (or edits in) what she wants for each episode.

I remember her accident in Africa when she was sitting on a muddy road, injured, and talking to the camera. Clearly, the video is front and center in her mind.

No doubt. She's running a paid show.
As for the constant running cameras... that would be hours and hours of editing to come up with the 23-30 minutes clip.
Dunno.

This is exactly right. That's also part of the reason why she doesn't camp... need to recharge batteries, and have internet service
As I mentioned before, she also rarely goes out anywhere at night... partly for personal safety, but equally to edit those hours of video.
It can be a grind, but that's her choice.
Again... I have no inside source, except the handful of interviews I've listened to.
But with my experience with video editing, it can be a real time suck, and very tedious.
But this is how she chooses to live, and she's doing it quite well, in my view.
Most will never know how much work she puts into her videos.

I’ve seen quite a few other videos on other channels/sites where she clearly talks about doing her own filming and editing, music sourcing, etc. She flys her drone manually, while underway!

And on her website she has a tutorial for others on how to do it themselves ( itchy boots Academy, “Motorcycle Vlogging”):

A bit similar to German.
Keep in mind that her vids on the YT are weeks behind, i.e. what you see today (even if she posted today) is where she was like a month ago.
Like it or not, you can't take away her talents and ambitions.
Yet in the 30 minutes videos we see only a small part of what's happening on her trip. Just a part which she decides to cut.

P.S.
And this "Good morning Internet"... I don't know if she aware, but it doesn't sound good. These are your "religious" fens who think you're their Goddess on 2 wheels. You call them just by a faceless general "internet"? Heck, just even plain "good morning" would sound better than that.
Don't beat me up. Just MO

She may be coming to a city near you! This was off my Facebook feed.

IMPORTANT QUESTION !!

I will be pausing my adventure to Japan briefly in June - for the release of my book “Free Ride”, coming out June 3rd.

That means, taking a break from my journey in the Middle East and… coming to the USA and UK for a booktour! Want to meet and get a signed copy of my book???

To figure out which places in the USA most of you are located, please help me out with a vote! These are the cities on the shortlist for the booktour, so if you are interested in coming to an event, please write your preferred city in the comments!

I know that YT can show locations where the most viewers are from, so this may be an indicator. Although looking at the some not so populated places, not sure how she came up with these.

I also thought that "good morning internet was a bit impersonal, but that's what she started with so it's sort of a catch phrase now. I can accept that.

Being born in Holland and raised in Canada, and only ever spent 2 months in Holland in the summer of 73 , surprised at how much dutch I understood. My parent's spoke English in our house. Myself I'm enjoying the scenery , only wish I could see it for myself.

That's what worked for me. But would have thought an OoSTerhuis could have followed the original!

Heh heh… yeah, you’d suppose so, but English is my first and second language, and some question my proficiency with them. My birth name is Sjodin (grandparents were Swedish immigrants). My father was KIA in Korean War. My brother and I were happily adopted by our (step)father whose parents were Dutch immigrants. I loved traveling in Holland when I was stationed at Heidelberg; all the locals pronounced my name correctly! :)

John

I spoke Dutch till I was 5 years old. I have the vocabulary of a 5 year old of a language from 70 years ago.. I did live in Holland for a year in the 70’s but everyone wanted to speak English to me.
I have Noraly’s book, I will admit at times it’s a challenge for me reading my mother tongue as I never got to read Dutch growing up. I’ve been muddling through it as best I can. I do enjoy it. I can understand most of it when spoken to me, so it’s charming for me to hear her speak it.
During one of her Covid episodes, she speaks to her father about a flood that happened in February of 1953, in a town near where her father lived. My dad remembered that day, He took my mom out for a date and they saw a movie. That nearby town was Dordrecht, where my mom grew up.
I went off on a tangent….sorry

Regarding her running the cameras full time, she obviously does not. Throughout the seasons she refers to things that happened while not videoing. This includes her crash in Africa, she only tuned on the cameras after the accident.

Keep in mind most of us have been watching her videos (thanks to kiltman) since she started. So re: the factual stuff you're preachin' to the choir. Weeks behind? Is there some significance to that? If she had a film crew the videos could be a little more timely but she doesn't. More than once she's mentioned she doesn't care for crowds of fans and doesn't want people to know where she is when she's there. She travels with some anonymity and likes it that way.

Like it or not, you can't take away her talents and ambitions.

Like it or not? 99% of us here who watch like it though that may not be apparent. Most of us aren't trying to take away her talents and ambitions or throw shade of any kind. We appreciate her spirit of adventure and her lack of camera commercialism and pretentiousness that's seen in an huge number of moto-vlogs.

30 min videos. More or less. Maybe she remembers how Uncle Ralph would show up with 9 carousels of How I Spent My Summer Vacation slides that had the family praying for a quick and painless death compared to what they were experiencing. Or maybe over the years she's learned that too much of motoring down dirt roads or highways isn't a crowd pleaser. My guess is she also knows a lot of people don't have the time to devote to lengthy videos. Not every at bat gets one out of the park. I'm ok with that. She's on more than she's off.

She once showed us a peek at her editing as soon as she got settled. Her skills grew over time. She's showed us finding accommodations on the fly and more than once the first one fell through and she had to try on the fly. So I have no reason to assume she has some kind of behind the scenes support staff or even a person.

"Hello Internet." I find that innocuous. So it bugs somebody else. I'm ok with that. She doesn't know us. We're not her buddies. She's not Ms. Nancy. I'm tired of every presenter saying "Hi guys!' like was are buddies. It's not particularly personal and everybody says it. Her greeting isn't too common. I'm ok with that too.

I've only been to a few countries and I do like food. So I'm interested in what she's served. She doesn't share the meal with us and that's fine. That's not why I watch.

I like her videos and nothing about them gives me cause to make rank speculation. Everything I see tells me she's very much her own person doing what she wants and has found a way to pay for it. So no shade from me.
