How fast have you had your ST?

Resistance goes up by the square of the speed, which is not necessary the same as stress. To double the speed you need to square the horsepower because of the resistance of wind, friction, etc.

Uh, resistance goes up with square of speed but power goes up with CUBE of speed. Double the speed requires eight times the power. Regardless, the bike is designed for 140+mph since people on here are taking it up to 140mph without anything breaking. As for rim stress, that depends both on the size of the pothole you are going over as well as the speed you go over it at. Roads where you go 140+ mph tend not to have potholes.....

About 105mph GPS speed is fast enough for me on 2 wheels.

well been awhile since I posted...but this season my top is just above 130 ...aprox 145 speedo which as you all know is off about 10% LOL

have slowed down over my 6 plus years of ownership ;^}100_1096.jpg

Speed on the Garmin GPS was indicating 135 but that was nothing close to the one below??? Of course it was a Honda also.

Well, too fast like everyone else...but not as much too fast as my Black Bird (which I sold because of my lack of self control. Going fast is fun, and I like "goosing" it once in a while, but when I found out that going over 120mph in my state is a Felony....I have begun to rethink the joy of extreme speed (not that it doesn't still amuse me, but I'm not sure doing it off the track is worth the risk/potential cost). STill love the twisties, and still trying to improve my control and smoothness, that is what is most fun for me at the present moment (still have a lot to learn).

Cheers, to all Brad in Duluth

you all know is off about 10% LOL

Actually, the speedometer on my 2010 ST is 100% correct. I have checked it with GPS and found it to be acurate from the factory. The bike I had before the ST was a 2008 VFR and it was off like you mentioned, but for some reason the new ST is right on.

Ckecking throttle/carb/suspension performance on my "New" '93 ST1100, had it up to 105 with smooth responsive power and no ride issues.

The cop that stopped me said I was doing over 100 but couldn't get a lock on me until I hit 80 mph...

He also said the bike had great breaks and I have a fast reaction time.

FYI, we were both coming over the same hill in opposite directions.

Live and learn. Now I am older and don't pull stupid stuff like that anymore.

I used to live outside Nurnberg when I was a child. My mother used drive about 100 to 110 on the Autobahn. I never got to drive on the Autobahn since we moved to the states when I was 12.
As far as my speed on the ST1300, I will never tell because I do not remember. lol

On the way home from Apple Valley California most of the way 85 mph
with a few times jumped it up to just over 110 to 115 that was plenty
I am not as young and brave/stupid as I once was...

120 but for a second or two, as I got on the freeway with someone on a FJR at my side, got scared and let off.

I was outside of the Hanford Nuclear Plant last summer on a long, long, LONG stretch of flat road. It was fast, the bike was angry and I created a cotton supository.

I believe I have already replied once on this thread. I am going to have to make another run one day when I have our new GPS with me, or my GPS radar detector to get a true speed reading.

In the meantime let's just say as fast as she would go. I have never had a vehicle that I did not run up to the max to see how it felt. I love to go fast, so far the fastest was my supercharged Mustang at a GPS verified 180 MPH.

And no, it was by no means a stock Mustang, it was a much modified 04 Cobra Mustang.

I'd love to run a Hyabusa out to the max :)

Can't really relate to the scary comments, for some reason fear has never been a factor in a race vehicle or street vehicle.

On my last trip to visit my wife in Texas it was around ten am in west Texas and I was headed to Junction with enough fuel to make San Antonio when I ran out of fuel about fourteen miles short of Junction seem running 125 plus for a couple of hours is a little hard on gas mileage. About 23.3 mpg, also the head winds were awful. :bk11:
