How fast have you had your ST?

I've taken my ST1100Y to 128 (indicated) without a problem, except the :policeST: blue flashing lights - however - she has a tendency to go into a front end wobble that turns into a full on tank-slapper at speeds of 25 - 50mph if I take my hands off the 'bars (dont stay I shouldn't take em off - the point is I SHOULD be able to without investing in stain resistant underwear!).
Getting hold of the 'bars again, even with very light pressure stabilises the bike immediately and she's solid as rock from then on.
I've been unable to trace the cause of this handling issue and have changed both tyres (new Bridgestone BT-020 at each end), the head bearings, front wheel bearings and am just finishing a rebuild after buying a replacement frame.
The bike is otherwise standard except for a Shad 42 litre topbox (leaving it off makes no difference).
Tyre pressues are 36front 42 rear (psi).
Whatever happens, I'm not gonna get rid of my Pan - I'll just live with its little problem ;)

Rebuild complete , frame sorted the problem, StePhANie now has only a minor vibration at the aforementioned speeds - she's really purring along. Top speed is still 128 (indicated)LawmanUK please ignore that last line :cop2: :work5:

although that could be down to the fact that even with the cables removed she revs at 3-4000rpm (all air / fuel lines are intact) - nothing seems amiss but obviously is. Anyone got an idea where I can get the settings for the throttle linkages cos the Haynes manual available here in the UK doesn't specify them

:bl11: is definitely faster

The frame change made one hell of a difference - solid as a rock / like a racing snake on rails all the way up to her max (still 128mph indicated)- no shakes or wobbles b:bow1:

:bl11: I luv her more and more each mile / day

Riding back from Alamosa, CO this morning speedo showed 120 mph, but Garmin Quest GPS showed 111 as top speed.
Note: was at approx. elevation of 8000 feet

Between 140 & 145 indicated (or so I was told by a guy I met in a bar who said his neighbor's cousin talked to a guy who heard that someone....).

The real question is: "How fast were you going when passing a Harley?"

Around 134 mph indicated and he didn't see me coming, (VBG).

My very favourite thing, the F15 Srike Eagle passing a Harley.

Friends have some Harleys. I got some crap for buying an ST. We went riding and they like to jump on the throttle every now and then. I love it! I go blowing past them. Then I hear "Yea those jap bikes run good but arent cool"

One day my friend wanted to try my bike. He was very impressed and then told me that he sees why I bought it. : )

I was told by Hubby the speedometer on bike is incorrect by so many %,so I don't look.
so out on a ride, I said it sure seem like everyone was going slow today, we were passing people left and left...he just looked at me and:D said they were going.

Well, I was wondering about all the talk of weave. So, I removed the top box and emptied the panniers. 40psi front and rear. Lowered the shield to about 2 inches below eye level (I'm 6'1). Wound the ST up to 135. No weave, no wobble. And it felt like I could have gone much faster. Now, would I do that with the top box and a full load in the panniers? No!

Cheers!

Had my son on the back one day just showing him what the bike would do. He weighs 200+. Everything was the same except he suddenly noticed the scenery going past faster. He just looked over my shoulder for a second to check the speed. 115 mph. No vibration, no wobble, just speed.

165 km/hr 3 weekends ago passing 5 cars on a 90 km/h limit road....

was there for 3 seconds... damn quebec roads....:D

but no wobble at all.... only noise in the helmet....

Gotta chime in, had my indoctrination to the fast-blooded nature the ST can bring out in all of us. Coming back from Jackson Hole, Wyoming yesterday on the straight and open spaces in Wyoming I had an indicated "way fast" with the GPS showing an actual of "still way fast".

At an idicated 60 mph, the GPS shows 55 mph. Double that and you are there. The speedo error is basically proportional. And the bike was not even close to feeling anything but rock steady with a tail bag on the passenger seat and side cases loaded, but not crazy heavy. Done it, now it's out of my sytem...

FWIW, a part of the ride was 81-84 mph on I-80 across Wyoming from Rock Springs to Laramie and she consumed 4.4 gallons on the 212 mile stretch at that speed with the windscreen with laminar lip full up (windscreen mounted in lower position) and my visor all the way up enjoying life to the fullest! I'll take that any day.

Don't know how fast... The speedo on mine goes to 160 and the needle was against the pegs way beyond that. Given the way the over-read seems to increase with speed, I would imagine somewhere around the 150 mph mark.

On this run, I did 590 miles in 6hrs 15 minutes including three petrol stops, the first 60 miles and the last 30 were twisty country roads.

Had my ST 1100 up to an indicated 136 mph (still pulling). Solid and smooth about 7200 rpm.
