How fast have you had your ST?

Top end for a 1100 is right at 130 (per the gps and sigma). It takes a bit to get there but the wide open stretches of US40 in western CO were too tempting. The ride instills confidence but the thought of a leo with instant on just over the next rise is terrifying.

I tend to go fast when there's a crowd and I don't want to be in it. Happens on the interstate when everyone is running about 5 over. Quick all-round check, hit it! Put space between me and the crowd, roll back down. Hit maybe a hunnert, hunnert 'n five indicated but only for brief periods.

Traffic camera enforcement was recently signed into law in New Jersey. From the little I've read there will be a substantial public awareness campaign before any enforcement is to begin.

I've always been against unmanned enforcement of any kind...this is just another means of raising revenue.

I believe that a University in the UK did a study on the effectiveness of camera traps in preventing accidents, and found they in fact had a zero effect in this department. The only thing they were any good for, was to collect revenue!!!

'02 1100 - 135 mph indicated No wobble. Rock Solid. Right after I let off the throttle, as I topped a hill LEO said I was still 98 MPH on Radar. Wrote the ticket 90+. Bags on and loaded.

One of my co-workers was very interested in my ST, and since he has far more experience riding motorcycles than me, I offered to let him take it for a test ride at lunch. He had been reading about the high speed wobble issue, and simply couldn't believe that Honda could make a bike that had that kind of safety defect.

After about 40 minutes, he returned and said, "I've got good news and bad news". "The good news is that you're bike does not have a high speed wobble." "The bad news is that I got pulled over doing about 125 mph in a 55 mph zone."

He was riding on a nice, straight section of road along the coast, and didn't notice the motorcycle officer until it was too late. He hit the brakes, and passed the officer doing 88 mph. The guy was nice enough to only write him up for 88 mph in a 55 mph zone.

So, I know my bike has been up to 125 mph, just not with me at the controls. The fastest I've had it is 90 mph.

140+ and solid as a rock. Not normally so reckless. But here's the situation, earlier this summer I found myself in a situation on a backroad just off of I-40 in EaSTern Arkansas. I was cruising solo at 75~80mph when a white Cadillac Escallade parked itself on my rear fender, too close for my comfort. I figured I'd dial in another 10~20 and the Escallade would get the message and back off. At 110mph the SUV was STill there. At that point I'd had enough and rolled it on. At 142mph, I was finally putting some diSTance between us but I could STill see him coming at triple-digit plus. Knowing I was a one radar blip away from jail time, I shut it down at the next settlement and pulled WAY off the highway and let this crazy SOB have the road. All the while hoping representatives of the ASP would be up ahead with said radar.

....

Don't you just shudder sometimes at cagers. Today I did a similar speed up evasive maneuver and this crazy driver dropped a gear and passed me on the right shoulder. Saw him and slipped over one lane to the left but he was trying to race me in traffic and all I was doing was trying to get away from him.... Sheesh!!!

Ok Folks,
When I had STar burST...she liked 85 and 105 all day long.......hit 135 a few times and STill smooth.
STar STud likes 95 and 115........and STill smooth.
juST made 128 a few times the other day but couldn't go any faSTer or I would run over Robert :)

LOL... in your dreams :)

'91 ST1100

134 GPS - Speedo bouncing too much to read.

After adding a +6 Windscreen re-ran test.

132 GPS - so I lost 2 MPH for the extra 2 inches of windscreen (had a +4 on it first time.

For that 2nd run, I did it in both directions on a looooonng road with no driveways or side roads. On my return pass as I hit top speed I spied a semi AG hauler maybe a mile ahead so I started letting off... Was down to maybe 90 or so and now maybe 100 yds behind the hauler when a dog suddenly appears out of the swayle and walks out in front of the hauler. I am thinking "I sure hope I can avoid the bits" as I reach for brake to shave off more speed when to my utter surprise the hauler rear wheels start smoking and slewing the trailer to the right - The guy actually BRAKED for the dog! Now I am getting on the brakes hard and am down to maybe 50 and less than 100 yds behind when suddenly the trailer smoke ceases and the dog walks calmly across the other lane to disappear into the swayle on the other side of the road!

Two things I thought of ever since that day:

1. I SURE am glad I wasn't going 135 and had that dog appear out of nowhere right in front of me and

2. That had to be the luckiest dog on the planet! at least that day.

I do have to say that I find the older I get the harder it is to run fast for long. (More sense or less balls? who knows) At one time I could run triple digits on a lightly traveled multi laned highway and the biggest stress would be watching out for the law.
Now several years later and having passed the "55" mark I find extended running at 80 or above to be mildly stressful (meaning more work than just looking out for the law) so it is rare for me now - though occasionally I'll run faster (80 - 105) to get out of congestion, away from someone driving erratically, etc., but even those incidents are fewer and further between than before.

Yesterday 110mph (on a closed private course)

I fiddled with the stock windscreen and found as it went from mid to highest setting there was a brief but noticeable warble which quieted down. I am going to service my (new to me) ST and make sure all fluids are changed, cables adjusted, bolts torqued, etc then revisit the speed.

Interestingly enough I went for a ride then had to call my wife saying I was going to be a little late for dinner as I am in another state!!!!

Sweeeeeeettt!!!!!

Actually looking at my atavar... I probably do do 200 kph (124,27mph) each day somewhere on my way to, or from the salt mines :22yikes:

Sorry but I must have removed the line about doing the double ton to-day.....
Nah!!! I just put it back....
