CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/16/2012

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

Just received a text from another rider... This just should not happen.. He was a terrific all around guy. This will be a big loss the the motorcycle community. RIP my riding brother.

Prayers are out going to his family and wife!

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

Oh no! This is horrible.

I've been an admirer of Curt and his riding skill. I finally got to meet him at Moonshine. Sad sad news.

RIP Curt.

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

This has been the hardest two days I can remember. Curt was truly a great friend and he's going be missed dearly.

Please keep Cindy and both hers and Curt's families in your prayers during these tough times.

It's times like these that remind us how fleeting life really is so cherish those around you.

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

This is the only news about the accident that is coming in so far.

Man injured after crashing into horse trailer

A motorcycle rider was injured after colliding with a horse trailer near Velva Saturday afternoon.

The Highway Patrol said Curt Gran, 43, of Penwaukee, Wis., was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle northbound on N.D. Highway 41 five miles north of Velva when the accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Carl Imazawisuna, 70, of Griswold, Man., was driving a Dodge pickup truck towing a horse trailer with two horses and tried to turn right when Gran struck the left side of the trailer.

Gran, who was wearing a helmet, was injured and transported to Trinity Hospital. Imazawisuna and two other passengers in the pickup, Gus Higheagle, 60, of Pipestone, Man., and Jonathon Atkinson, 23, of Ginew, Man., were all wearing seat belts and were uninjured.

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

NoNoNo.

I knew Curt from the IBR. Absolutely devastating.

Curt, I will see you in Gerlach, and rally with you again sometime down the line.

Oh No!. I hate that this is part of our passion. RIP Curt

I'm glad you posted this sentence. It puts a good perspective between something I love so much, and something that takes a toll on our community. Days like this are sobering and make me doubt why I ride.

Having ridden a few rallies with Curt, and having actually been taught how to navigate rallies by him, I feel comfortable saying that I've never met a finer rider, and a more considerate fellow. This is just sad, sad news. Curt was the last person I'd figure this could happen to.

Well, Curt, I pray that the bonus locations in Heaven are fun to ride to, funny to think about, and that, God willing, I'll meet you at the checkpoint some day.

Rest in peace.

This is so sad. Curt was the first memeber that I met back in the fall of 2006.

My prayers go out to Curt's family and to his wife Cindy and her family.

This is just too sad to even think about! My prayers go out to his family and all his friends.

RIP Curt!

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

RIP Curt :-(

I'm in complete and utter shock right now. Although we are all aware of the extreme risks of our hobby, it really hurts when this happens to anyone, let alone someone we all know, love and respect.

I just don't know what else to say right now, other than that my thoughts and prayers are with Cindy and all of Curt's family.

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

This is devastating news! Prayers are with Cindy and both families. There is an emptiness left when you lose a friend, as if a part of you is gone too. But Curt has left so many teachings, laughs, and memories of good times, that his impact will remain with us forever. Some people only get to dream of things they are passionate about, and would like to experience in their life. ST-owners realize their dream every time they start the engine. We are all aware of the danger, but believe that to live your dreams is worth the risk.

There are other wonderful riders waiting to ride with you Curt...RIP, Ride Free.......set good routes for us...we will ride together again.

Mac left for Ohio this morning. He is on the road....I have spoken with him, we both hold Curt, Cindy, and families in our hearts and prayers. If there is anything we can do, we're there. I know Mac will post once he stops for the night.

I am terribly, terribly heart broken - prayers go out to Cindy and the families

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

I am just speechless. As Carole posted, she told me as I was going through Phoenix on 101. My prayers go out to Cindy and Curt's family. I hope to be at the calling hours whenever they are. So terribly sorry!!!

Thanks Mark. My exact feelings as well.

I've talked to and done business with Curt several times. A nicer guy couldn't be found. He was a real spark plug at the Pardeeville Tech Day. He will be missed.

God speed Curt, and prayers for Cindy and the rest of the family.

Re: CrazyKZ (Curt Gran) - 6/17/2012

I had to reread Mellow's post before I believed it. I only met Curt in person twice, and he left a lasting impression on me both times. He will always be one of my heros of the sport. I first saw him at the Buffalo checkpoint of the 2011 Iron Butt Rally. As tired as he was, he was friendly and obviously enjoyed what he was doing. At Moonshine this year I got to talk with him more, and he was quick to give welcome advice and well wishes.

My thoughts go to his family. I'll cherish my special Moonshine SS1K award knowing the man who arranged the ride for us is gone.

Edit: This is how I'll always remember him. Taken in Buffalo during the 2011 IBR.

Very sad.. I met KZ on a ride that was hosted by ACL in Eastern Iowa in memory of another rider. Curt tried to help me with my new iPod Touch at the motel... lots of laughs about that.
