2014 Honda CTX1300

Re: CTX1300

When you get pulled over by one of these it will be because a CTX caught you! I would think you would then be crying :doh1::mug1::cry:

Re: CTX1300

I wonder if they have the ST1300 wobble? :think1:

Totally different dynamics that contribute to that. I think the shorter wheel base and steering set up (rake/trail) are major contributing factors in that. Obviously other factors play into is as well but I think these would be major. The CTX has a much longer wheel base and very different rake/trail set up that would tend to eliminate any wobble tendency IMHO.

Re: CTX1300

I just want to know if the mufflers will bolt to my ST.

The pipe from the cat converter actually goes into the muffler in the middle of the can on the CTX. Really different than I am used to seeing on a bike.
This linky shows a lot of detail on the mufflers and other details on the CTX. Didn't see a page like this for the ST1300 on that site but from photos and diagrams I can find online like at this linky looks like they are a lot like my ST1100 mufflers where the pipe from the headers enters at the front end. I also note how they slightly change the sound of the exhaust by adding a little extra length to one of the pipes on each side where the ST1300 pipe run relatively straight back to the mufflers.

Re: CTX1300

Good info Bob regarding the exhausts.

That exhaust configuration makes the center stand a difficult fit.

So I could get one of these for the same cost as an FJR... hmmm... let me think about that!

:think1:

How about... Not in your wildest dreams! :noway

Those are MSRP prices on the options page at Powersports Honda of course. I've received word from one of the bigger Honda dealers around here that they are offering the Deluxe model (ABS and TC) for $15900 when it shows up in March. Those prices have been known from the mc shows for a while now. Based on how Honda implements TC I'm surprised it hasn't been available on any recent model bike that already has ABS since it uses the ABS sensors and modules.

Thanks for the links, That won't bolt on.

Found some interesting specs for the CTX1300 from Honda Japan website:

84 hp @ 6000 rpm (not bhp)
78.18 lb-ft torque @ 4500 rpm.
Lower rpm for both hp and torque than the ST. also lower numbers overall BUT the CTX has higher torque at 4500 rpm than the ST1300 at that same rpm (only about 70 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm). So Honda did what they said they were trying to do... increase torque at the low-mid range... at a cost to overall torque and hp at the higher end.

For MPG: There are 2 numbers indicated for this and 2 methods of measure. One of these is similar to how EPA emissions testing is used in the U.S. to calculate mpg. This is called WMTC in Japan. The other method sounds like they take it out with rider and passenger at 60km/h for larger than 50cc bikes and actually measure mpg.
I found this web link describes these 2 methods
So running the numbers through a converter/calculator online gives us the following:
Standard test mpg: 63.97 mpg at 37.3 mph (Japan's standard test speed)
WMTC calculated average mpg: 43.5 mpg

For comparison Honda USA shows mpg for the ST1300 at 35 mpg using the EPA emissions calculated method (compares to Japan's WMTC method). I know a lot of you guys with ST1300 get over 45 mpg, and even over 50 mpg in normal driving. I would guess by this that the CTX would be easily capable of the 60+ mpg, and consistently over 55+ mpg at overall commuting type driving in real world situations. So as expected, higher power in lower ranges but lower power overall yet higher mpg. I do think Honda could have done a lot better with this engine and still come out with their goal for this bike.

Good info Bob, thx. I too expect Honda could have gotten more out of the ST13 engine ... If they had wanted to put the resources to it. They probably chose to get 80% of the gain in torque by making as few part changes, maximizing the benefit with the least effort. There would be a lot they could have done, at large effort. (IMHO)

Great, I can see it now...CTX owners stealing ST1300s for their engines so they can have more top end! :rofl1:

That might happen IF a former ST1300 owner bought a CTX. But target audience of the CTX is not the sport leaning ST crowd... as you already know... I think.
More likely owners might figure out a way to change the tuning to end up with more power overall. But I would rather keep the low end torque since I (and most non-sport leaning touring and also cruiser riders) don't need the speed-in-a-hurry that high end torque brings. :) Besides the torque numbers of the CTX indicate it will possibly out pull the ST at the low end until the ST gets up some rpm before it will catch up to pass.
