2014 Honda CTX1300

Re: CTX1300

Overlaid as best possible given that the two pictures were taken at slightly different elevations and positions along the bike's length:

Re: CTX1300

I attended the Mpls. show. I thought the ride position of the CTX1300 was fine. I did not care foe the pull back look of the bars and tone saddle bags seemed cheap.

I don't care what you do with pictures.....sit on the damn thing and it's NOTHING like an ST.......horrible riding position......for ME..................ff

Re: CTX1300

LOL ff ... a bit chippy there? ;)

I think the picture helps illustrate how different the two bikes are (positions of seat, bars, and footpegs), reinforcing that the CTX isn't the ST replacement. :)

Sorry, just po'd that Honda builds that kind of trash and no new ST....gonna have to go ride the new FJR and see if that fits my bill......besides, I just had to blow snow and shovel the walks.....spring can't come soon enough...............ff

Re: CTX1300

I think the bike looks great.. A few minor changes and it would be a new version of the ST but it was never meant to be - it was mean to something cool looking with honda reliability that would cause someone to buy it.. while hardcore ST owners may not all go for it, I wouldn't be surprised if many did... and, in doing so, make this bike the 1st step to WANTING a sport tourer... Perhaps Honda has a bigger picture in mind.. pull them in with this bike and set up the experience for the next bike up... a new version of the ST with many of this bikes cool features..

Joe, I don't know what Honda thinks, but I don't think that's it.

Re: CTX1300

Thanks Jon but my guess is just that and as good or bad as any.

WE won't know what Honda is thinking until they tell us.. LOL

Would that be the ST1300 with updated electronics and suspension or the VFR1200T? The Crosstourer was released in Europe this year and the patents were filed for the VFR1200T in October. So, the VFR series is moving along. I would like to seriously consider the VFR1200T as a replacement for the ST1300.

Re: CTX1300

:think1:Lol.......looks like they're trying to get rid of a pile of NOS ST1300 engines and unused DN01 plastic to me.........

Re: CTX1300

A significant bit of "plastic surgery" there if it comes from the DN1. :) Same fairing design as on the 2014 CTX700... but smaller.

I think Honda is playing with making various changes in the engine to see what they can do with it before coming out with the new and improved ST. The CTX is one direction to go with it and next up will be to see what happens in the other direction. :D Who knows, a CBR1300 or even VFR1300 with the V4 tuned for the high end?

Re: CTX1300

Uh .......ok, maybe it's a DN01 with implants ;):D

Re: CTX1300

Maybe it's the difference between a vision and a hallucination...............:shrug2:..................ff

Re: CTX1300

... and the patents were filed for the VFR1200T in October....

I've noticed you posted this a couple times in recent months ... please post a source/link.

I bet you're likely seeing concept sketches 2009 which were part of a Feb 10 2009 patent application (Application number US 2009/0206628 A1) for airbags and crumple zone on a motorcycle. The sketches look like what we would envision a VFR1200T to be like, so it is assumed to be a next generation ST. The patent application does not even list Honda as the assignee.

I do not find any indicaiton that patent application has been granted, even though there has been ample time for the patent to have been awarded or rejected by the Patent Office. (I suspect it was rejected, see below.)

Only 2 weeks prior to the aforementioned Patent Application, Honda made Patent Application for an airbag in a motorcycle. That patent was awarded on March 8, 2011 and is numbered US 7900955 B2.

Re: CTX1300

There goes Mr. Baker again, being all reasonable and checking sources...

There was a reference to what we've been calling the "VFR1200T" in Motorcyclist a few months back. People who bothered to read the story found zero evidence suggesting that the drawing of the purported VFR1200T depicted anything that hadn't already been rumored for the past four years. Four years ago was when Visor Down said, "Originally expected to be launched alongside the VFR1200F at last October's [that would be 2009] Tokyo Motor Show, the VFR1200T now looks likely to appear at this September's [2010] Intermot show in Cologne." Look here: http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle...-more-details-emerge/11809.html#ixzz2rFi0Nnd4

My contact inside Honda is one of the company's official mouthpieces and he gladly shares with me anything that Honda has officially released. He has assured me that (1) the CTX1300 is not a replacement for the ST1300, and (2) we will be waiting a long time for a new ST.

Folks should certainly feel free to carry on with the fun of conjecture and speculation about the next ST as there's no news from Honda and it appears there won't be any time soon. Or they could go ride their ST. Or perhaps go buy an FJR or RT or GT or Connie or Trophy and ride that instead of waiting for who knows what to arrive who knows when.

Odds are very, very good that no drawing in a patent application is going to be an accurate reflection of an unannounced product.

Couldn't find a link, but I reference "Motorcyclist Magazine" in the "Up to Speed" section. Unfortunately I've already trashed the Magazine and don't remember the month. But it reported that the patents for the crumple zone were filed and it pointed to the release of the of the CrossTourer. It speculated "could the VFR1200T be far behind." They didn't know; they were wondering what happened to it.

Motorcyclist Magazine also has an article on line from 2011 about the patent your referencing.
