2014 Honda CTX1300

Bottom Line is Honda is a business and when they are looking into the future and the questions is asked what style of motorcycle is your smallest segment. Answer might be Sport touring. Then the question is can we REALLY improve those sales or do we spend our resources on a different type of machine?
My feeling is, as much as it hurts, they just don't see any ROI on us.

I use the cruise control in my two and four wheeled vehicles all the time, mostly to keep me from getting a ticket as I suffer from "speed" creep. And even at that I have a hard time on the gold wing because I don't take my hand off the grip. I set it for 70 and look down later and I'm doing 80. I also like the audio system on the wing and use satellite radio all the time. I too don't see what they gained by deleting it from the F6B. You guys that don't use it must drive in a much more congested area than I do.

I used my CC on the Wing in Houston and Denver all the time... great on those long stretches of slab on the way in to work, or on the way home. :)

Or they figure they have made enough of them to go around and they will last a lifetime, so why make any more? I just hope they don't break the molds.

The only way I would consider a new ST is if they guaranteed me the left headlight bulb would burnout every 8-10K ;)

Just for fun, I overlayed the ST13 on top of the CTX13. The engines are aligned (more or less):

Cool, nice job. I bet a lot of vertically challenged folks will love turning it into a touring bike.

I fell in love with this one.

Good job with the graphics, Glen. :D

+1 Very Good Job

That shows me just how much difference in wheelbase and seat height a few inches can make... Anyway, these two animals are not even close in my mind. Whatever they did to that V-4 was more than just an exhaust change. No aftermarket system any of us can think of made our ST1300 sound as good as the bike in the video. If it is just in the mufflers, I WILL find a way to retrofit a set to Ole Blue.

A couple of things of interest came out of this photo montage. One is that the mufflers are significantly lower on the CTX13. I noticed this also from the promo videos, where ground clearance looks limited. I suspect that adding any centerstand would further effect ground clearance.

Another interesting thing is that length overall looks to be about the same as the ST13, despite the swingarm being stretched 6 inches. I like the lower profile of the fake fuel tank. I was surprised at how low the passenger and tail are. So the overall impression is that the COG is significantly lower, so this bike should not feel top heavy at slow speeds.

Also, the handlebars reach back what looks to be about 3 inches more, at the same height as the ST13's. Footpegs look to be about 6 inches further forward, but are also about an inch lower.

Also fixed windshield angle on the CTX13 will be less vertical than ST13 (when the windshield is retracted).

Taller gearing on the CTX, wonder if the rear pumpkin is higher ratio (lower numerically) and interchangeable?

x2 !!!!!!!!!!!!

FJR is is getting my attention ( cruise, heated grips, 12V aux, 2 mode engine setting )...all that for less than the '12 ST ! Also, my friends L headlight still burned after multiple 10,000 mi. years . Love my ST1300 but geez. Side note: I wonder if they fixed the L light on the ST1300 2014 .... police version ? !!!

9 days to the unveiling of Honda's secret's, this is the ST1300 website an of course you wouldn't be here if not interested in the ST1300. Perhaps someone can start a poll on how many believe in 9 days we will see a new version of the ST1300 that will have "what options" versuses those that believe there will be no new Sport Tour 1300 for 2014.

you can add many things yourself so the things I would like to see are things you can't add yourself very easily if at all: (1) Cruise Control - helps on long trips with comfort and helps keep me from creeping up into big ticket speeds (2) the DCT option - I know some people don't want it and they don't have to buy it but I think it would be perfect for a sport/tourer. BTW, I was reading yesterday the new Acura NSX will employ a dual clutch paddle shift set up as well - very cool.

The overlay is very cool! One of the interesting things to me is how the bike would look with a taller windshield. It alone almost completely changes the character of the bike. I'm liking it even more than when I first saw it.

The emblem on the 300 Dream (I think) is definitely backwards, but that was pretty common in my experience. I don't know if Honda didn't have enough or that a lot of people were getting them stolen and replacing them with the wrong ones. Or maybe it was H-D riders having a little fun. Whatever, I saw it a lot.

While I do love the FJR platform, (rode an '07 this morning!) don't kid yourself, it ain't perfect either. The 12V aux is only good for charging cell phones, it might not even carry a GPS. The headlight bulbs burn out on FJRs as well. And I promise you they are harder to get to. By all reports the longer you fight the bulbs on the FJR it gets easier. The blood all over your hands makes them slide around easier in that tight space.

For those of you who like the wind protection of the ST, you will find yourself out in the wind on the FJR. Lots of subtle differences between the ST and the FJR. They are both great bikes though.

My ST13 is an '04 that I bought in '08. It now has 70k on the clock. I've never changed a headlight on it (touching wood).

The CTX13 kinda remind me of the GL500 Interstate that I had in the '80's. I really like the fact that the engine is exposed. I always thought it was a shame that it is so completely concealed in the ST13. People are always surprised when I tell them the the ST13 is a V4.
