Where did you ride today?

Made a totally surprising discovery today - an oasis in the desert!
Interesting find, but I'm sure Upt'North will back me up on this one, if it doesn't have a bar, its not an oasis.

Had a pair of good days.
Unusually warm here in Pa. Yesterday I synched my carbs using a Flowmeter, natch, that job warrented a spin around our local roads today. Bike ran very well, smooth! (thanks Uncle Phil).

83 miles, local roads are salty after heavy snowfalls, the bike was then thoroughly washed!

Took a short ride of 75 miles yesterday SE Atlanta after work. Turned 23,000 on the ST. Bought it with 20,650 on 8/15/18. Just a weekend type rider doesn't put many miles on it! Great therapy after work when the weather cooperates. Was 70*F, going to 78 tomorrow!

Rode into Gulemin, Morocco today to get the parts I need to replace the clutch slave cylinder on my ST 1100. Even though this place is the middle of no-where, I had no difficulty finding 5mm inside diameter hose for bleeding - cost me 5 Dirhams (about 50¢) for 3 feet of clear tubing. Probably would have cost me $5 back in Canada.

Riding back to the oasis where I am staying, I started laughing when I saw the parking lot in front of the Marjane store (sort of a Moroccan WalMart). The lot was filling up with campers operated by retired French people who are driving down to Dakhla to spend the winter there. There is a refugee camp of sorts there full of about 500 camping vehicles, all operated by retired French, Spanish, & Portuguese people. It's much the same idea as Slab City in California.

I guess it goes to show that people are the same all over the world.

A slab city in the African desert, who'd have thought?
Yes, it is a small world.

Had a nice 75 mile ride yesterday in record breaking temps. Made my way across thru Mansfield (hwy 213) to Shady Dale where I picked up hwy 83 (my family used to travel 83 from Athens to Forsyth on our way to Tampa every year) to Monticello. Then 212 back home. Nothing like a good dose of ST in the afternoon!
Thanks Steve for a great shirt!C98080E8-C3F5-4C78-B7EC-604C8D601A1C.jpeg1ED2DC6F-B95C-48A6-A84A-B3792EFD1DF2.jpeg9E5EFC5A-E5F1-45B4-BE28-6BF977605275.jpeg

Mike, what road was that with the snow? I know you're on the central coast but that's definitely a back road, which one?

While riding to lunch at Prosser's BBQ, I experienced one of the simple pleasures of motorcycling. While purring along at the 45mph speed limit on cruise control, a Porsche 924 Turbo slowly overtook in the left lane, our slightly out-of-sync exhaust notes making a WUuUWUuUWUuUW beat frequency. Engineers and musicians will know what I mean.

Happy Canyon to Figueroa Mountain Road, you are over 5000 feet on Figueroa Mountain Road.
yeah, I could tell by the pine trees that you were up in that range of elevation, but those roads aren't familiar to me. One of these days I'll have to get out and explore the less traveled roads in that area.

Got knocked over by a taxicab that was trying to pass me on a narrow road today. No injury, but it scuffed up both saddlebags, which is annoying. The Moroccan police were very good about investigating everything, and as always, very polite. The taxi driver was deemed to be guilty, but I declined to press charges - buying two replacement saddlebags would probably use up his entire annual income.

Headed down the road, stopped for a coffee a few hours later, and discovered the cord was peeking out from the middle of my rear tire. There are no Honda dealers in Morocco, but there is a Honda parts distributor in Casablanca, about 500 miles away. I'm going to call them and see if they have a tire in stock they can send to me by bus. If not, you will see me posting questions in the "darkside" threads tomorrow - I might wind up being an involuntary darkside convert until I can get back up to Spain in a few weeks and get a proper tire there.

Never a dull moment... :)

Michael

No Fun, but No Injuries Either

Rode down to Jupiter to pick up the South Florida tag, then along Lake Okeechobee to a lunch meet up with Bluesrider. 34 degrees difference from home to lunch and back, 627 miles.

To all of you who have recently posted pics and stories of your rides, thanks. It really helps when I look out the window at the -26 C landscape to remember spring is coming and with it riding season.
