What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Rode to Dammerells and met the local Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists & introduced myself as a new recruit who starts training on Tuesday. Rode with them nearly up to Bude then turned back for home, washed salt off bike AGAIN. Moved my cigarette lighter power outlet as it was too close to my knee and replaced it with a voltmeter. Tried out my Sat Nav for the first time and it works well - this will be really useful when I go touring abroad next year. Total miles today 122 and surprised how much snow is still about in North Cornwall.

Here are the photos that I promised now it is nearly sorted out. I still have a dash camera to add, so the Sat Nav mounting may yet be changed again!! Started off with a Garmin car dash mount and cut it down as you can see. With my Sat Nav, heated grips and LED front lights on, it charges at 14.3 volts.

I can tell you that your ST clutch is pretty much bullet proof so you can practice your slow speed maneuvers in the friction zone a lot but just ride a couple of minutes in between U-turns with out the clutch to cool the plates.

Well, I don't think I would call them "Bullet Proof", just don't go out too often practicing your slow speed maneuvers... See #11 on this thread: Truth about ST1300 Clutches

Thanks, but that is exactly what is happening. I pulled the middle and lower cowl off today; I am getting good at it; and checked to make sure I had the right know sensor (black wire) connected properly and it was connected. Did the rpm test again twice and the same thing happened.. When the FI light came on, the R's dropped more than 2000 RPM. Never did that when I had the FI light come on while riding, couldn't really tell any difference in performance or fuel economy while riding with the light on.... I have checked all the knock sensor wiring all the way to the ECM on the right side and it has continuity. I am going to pull the middle cowl on the left side and check that wiring tomorrow.. I have an ECM (used) on the way from a 2003 that should be here on Monday. I will install it and see if I have the same problem.
I am curious... The corrections to the service manual state that the code 25 and 26 are reversed.. Meaning that the code 26 is the left knock sensor rather than the right that the service manual states. Is that correct or not?

I pulled the left side middle and lower cowl off and checked the connection and the wiring from the left knock sensor to the ECM. The wiring checked good. My used ECM came in the mail this afternoon, I installed it and started the engine and let it warm up a bit, then ran the R's up to about 4500 for about 30 seconds, no FI light, but the engine died when I closed the throttle rapidly. It restarted with no problem but I had to adjust the idle just a hair. So I put all the plastic back on both sides and installed the seat. Haven't taken a test ride yet, too late today, but I will do that tomorrow, but so far, all seems well......

I’m curious, if you’re ST1300 is running a quart low, does that affect the clutches too?

A quart low...probably, but if you are running your bike a quart low on oil, you should be checked in to one of those clinics that help you overcome self inflicted stupidity!

Not much.snowbike.jpg

Someone else for one of those clinics? Leaving your baby outside without as little as a tarp over it?

The rain let up enough to get a 200 mile ride in and I didn't get to wet.

I have a very nice cover (two actually) but i hate putting them on when the beast is wet. Then I forget. I use her to commute ALMOST daily.

I rode to work today. Weather was supposed to get to 62 and sunny. It made it to 59 and rainy.
