Tip over bars vs. tip over bars.

Could you guys please post a pic of all three bars. I am going to design my own.

Are the bars from MCL solid like Jay's or hollow? I saw there is a difference in diameter (1" vs. 9/16" I believe). Also, with the police type bar, is that connecting piece that goes to the passenger peg on an angle or level? I ask since I use a hydration device I put on my passenger peg and then use bungees to secure to the tip over bars and wondered if could use the same set up on police bar if decide to change.

I slightly bent the right tip over bar in a tip over and may just replace that one on the right side (from Jay about 3-4 yr. ago). I thought I'd read on the forum that he made a newer version that was a bit beefier than the ones I have, but don't see that on his web site. Did I dream that?

Both MCL and the ST1300P bars are hollow.

The extra bar on the ST1300P bars is at an angle.

I haven't seen where Jay has made any different bars.. yet.

I have Jay's bars and like them. In fact, they work perfectly, I have not had a tip over since I installed them ;)

Mine are pretty early examples of his design and while the bars have held up well, the initial fasteners rusted up pretty early. He has made changes since then and I think that got resolved.

Since Allie is the most regular passenger, the foot room has not been a big problem but when Lana rides, it is a factor. Everything is a trade-off of some sort.

Drop Jay a line, as I recall he has a design that gives more foot room but you can no longer fold the peg up if needed....? hopefully he will jump in cause I may be mis-remembering that....

I have Jay's rear tip over bars. I haven't put them to the test yet except for running into one of the posts that protect the gas pumps. You know, those big yellow posts that are hard to miss! Well I managed to hit one and knocked the paint off one. The impact just slid the bike over a couple of inches and left a yellow mark on the tipover bar. :scared2:
No other damage. Oh and I had a passenger on too that was falling asleep until I hit that post. :D

Mellow ,you are the man , you ask for pics, and he provides pics , he,s always on top of it , thanks again for all your efforts !

I'm late to this thread, but ordered MCL's tip over bars and peg lowering kit for passenger today. Do I reuse the existing bolts in the frame? Are they torqued to a certain spec? Any help is greatly appreciated. Jerry

I fitted the same items to mine some time ago. MCL provides new bolts. As for torque, I had no idea what it was so went to local dealer and asked what the torque was for those bolts. He said, "Can you get them any tighter?" I replied, "No." He said, "Then they're tight enough." Suggest you use a Ball-end allan key as there are some tightish angles. Wife very happy with Peg Lowerers, so am I and I have sufficient foot room. I take a size 12 boot but I don't ride along on my toes, I'm a 'Flapper'. Good luck, you'll like them, they look real good and Beefy.

Hi Dave! Thanks for the information. And the tip on the ball end allen key. My bike is new and I've not come close to a tip over...but, based on my experience with my other bikes, I just know it's going to happen eventually... I did it just a week ago on my Suzuki Bking. I didn't realize I had stopped my bike on a downhill grade. Got off the bike, turned my GoPro Video camera on, got back on the bike, put a little weight on the handlebars, and off the kick stand she went, and my leg was up in the air at the time, putting it over...but, I couldn't stop its forward motion and eventually down she went... Dagger through the heart. Fortunately, my crash protectors prevented any damage. When I got home, I looked at my shiny new ST1300 and thought I'd do a little forward planning... :think1:

I see you're a police officer in Australia. Amazing how far and wide great stuff can happen from these forums...

Gooday mate!

Just tried to order the tip over bars along with $600 of other stuff from MCL and it comes up page does not exist.

Must be an out of stock thing?

How often do they update the web site?

That was the only thing I went on the site for but came away with fender extender, fork brace, antenna mount, throttle lock and highway blades. Getting ready to do the 4 corners ride.

This forum is excellent. Learned a lot from you guys.

Thanks.

You might want to give it another try or give Larry a call directly. He's usually pretty good about letting us know if he's out of stock and waiting on a new shipment.

I ordered the tip over bars and asked him a question. He had been at an ST1300 get together... Anyone know what the torque spec if for the bolts where the tip over bars attach near the passenger footpegs? Should I be worried about that, or just go hand tight? Thanks, Jerry

Thanks Joe! I searched everywhere for that before asking. None of the ' Here are the important torque spec ' threads covered it. I obviously need the service manual.

FILTERING/LANE SPLITTING
I live in London... it's congested and lane splitting aka filtering is legal. So I filter a lot.

Can tip over bar users comment on:
- what type of bar you have
- can you still filter with them in place
- is the widest part of the ST-1300 still the mirrors if you have the tip over bars fitted.

Anyone has some pics of the bike with a direct frontal view and tip over bars fitted, that would be a big help too.
